If people really are annoyed at the UI they need to show it.
Because the only way to get a message across to the devs is to keep banging on about it every. single. day/week/month until they acknowledge it or the game dies due to their inaction.
Talk of boycotts and nonsense like that mean nothing, there are always plenty of players who will ignore them and be blinded by new shiny toys. But keep pestering them with this subject and they will either listen or kill their own game off. The ball is in their court.

Assuming they will read all these threads of course. Which is unlikely, cause (as people on Reddit and even the Gecko himself are so eager to emphasise) all we ever do here is complaining, being whiny and behaving as entitled 14-years old etc. If one wants to believe Reddit and Gecko of course.
Which in itself is some proof that they don't really care what we say or think, even when the complaints are justified, and described in a rational manner (as was done with respect to this issue on many occasions). When is the last time we even heard from Salami or Gecko on this, their own Forum?
I agree that it's about the only thing we can do though. In time they might change things, as they did with the huge upgrade costs. It'll likely take some time though.

Yeah well tbh there is plenty of bitching on Reddit too, so the people who are regulars over there need to get off their high horses to be perfectly frank.
We are all one big community and what is needed is a decent effort on all platforms to make these issues known to the devs and make it clear we are not happy. The fact that people think this forum is full of whiny babies shows how little they actually read it tbh, there are plenty of sensible posts on here that are often ignored. Yes there is bad in here too, but Reddit is hardly free of that either sort of behaviour either is it?
I'd much rather see people actually make an effort to make their feelings felt than sit here just accepting it and giving up.
Lets face it, despite a tiny number of better devs who engage with the players the vast majority of our voices on any platforms fall on deaf ears. But we should not stop shouting.

True. That's what I was trying to say: it's nonsense, how some pretend that this forum is all that awful and things are much better in other places. But that is still the excuse that is often heard for why no one listens to suggestions made here. And it indeed shows that they don't read it all that much.
Somehow we as Forum users need to lose that false image that was created a long time ago through continuous shouting - in a reasonable manner. Which is why I'm glad there is a gazillionth thread on this
Reddit STO often enough sounds exactly like these official forums indeed. They still get way more replies there than here.
If anything, my general impression is the quality of posts has increased here with fewer members around, and more agreement by the members in how they perceive the STO gameplay, the things that are done right and the many parts still lacking.
Cryptic does actually reach out, listen, and take feedback for many things, evidenced by the many fixes of late and even entire overhauls which almost turns the game upside down, and even admitting to mistakes and learn (the dilemma with attack pattern science).
It's just some of the more serious problems that continue to plague the game somehow go unheard and repeatedly shoved under the carpet to the detriment of the player base (empty fleets, empty queues, stagnant EC exchange, low instance social zones vs the past) and undoubtedly their own profit. It is sad.
I enjoy or try to enjoy STO, have been for years now. It's an awesome game engine still full of potential from stories to team play to canon trek. Just sad to have it go downhill like this, for reasons entirely amendable.
Waste of time posting on Reddit. Most criticism or negative posts about Cryptic issues and bugs is met with a wave of downvotes, resulting in the post getting hidden and being unseen. Reddit likes to sweep the dust under the rug.
Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.
I criticise plenty on reddit and it doesn't get downvoted like mad. Oh man tho, all those redditors on their high horses. Grats forums, you blew up my irony meter. Again.
I criticise plenty on reddit and it doesn't get downvoted like mad. Oh man tho, all those redditors on their high horses. Grats forums, you blew up my irony meter. Again.
Then maybe crawl back over there then?
I know you think we're all idiots over here and have no respect for any of us.
Wait wait wait... I remember when this abomination of new queue UI came out, there was this one person who genuinely seemed to like it and was downvoted into oblivion. Most of the people didn't like it there either, and they still hate it.
And Reddit folks criticise Cryptic a lot. People like SOB or Rev make often extremely critical comments, and get lots of upvotes.
However the difference is that on Reddit, more (and no, I did not say *majority*) people know actually how the game works, and thus have better ideas what and how to improve. And by "know actually how the game works" I mean up to finest details, not only that "tac consoles give cat1 dmg buff" (which, btw, was first discovered and made public by no other than a Reddit expert).
Also, those same people are just sick to death that a lot of forum users constantly spread misinformation, or vilify all the people who dare to use a parser, or make "please nerf this"-posts just in spite of their own personal biases, and later when something gets nerfed, they cry that their own build has been rendered useless (cause nerfs should've only affected the evil DPSers, and they possibly couldn't foresee it affecting themselves as well). Or pointlessly argue that extremely detailed and in many cases, developer-verified math done by Reddit guys is completely wrong. Or simply refuse to see the big picture, in many cases even failing to understand there is one.
Mind you, I'm not saying that forums are full of bad people. I genuinely enjoy reading insights made by nice ppl like @e30ernest (ok, maybe he doesn't count cause he's more of a Redditor), @meimeitoo, @peterconnorfirst or @seaofsorrows. However, at least for me, main impression of Reddit is bastion of knowledge and game mechanics, with all the absolutely amazing stuff compiled by ppl like Jay or Atem. Forums - sorry, but I just see the negativity/stupidity here far more often, without enough positivity/knowledge to balance it out.
Oh man, showing your class there Sul. Just one big community eh?
No, merely aimed at you alone. I know you have no respect for anyone posting here from previous conversations I've been involved in with you.
I would happily welcome all parts of the community coming together on this subject, i have no issue with where people post these problems, provided they keep the pressure on. But if all you want to do is come in and make fun of people using these forums then all you are doing is sowing the seeds of division that would stop a decent effort being made to bring this mater to the devs attention.
Wait Sul, so you bang on about how terribly bad reddit is then play the waaaah you're a meanie about the forums card? Good job. You prove the points I make about the forums time and again all on your own.
I'm not getting into discussions of which format is better, both have good and bad members and posts made on a regular basis. My only issue i was referring to originally was that often I pick up some from Reddit members the attitude that they are above us people posting here on the forums, when in reality we are all just the same community.
Good and bad people in both places, no need to act as if one is better than the other, or as if one is full of idiots who don't understand the mechanics of the game.
Back on topic though. This thread is about the queue UI, something you definitely do not need a knowledge of game mechanics to realise is drastically bad for the game.
I think the vast overwhelming majority of people i talk to in all media forms are in agreement it isn't suitable. Perhaps we let the devs away too easily with it, and now we are stuck with it. But i think if players keep voicing their disgust at it publicly at least it keeps it in the open, so it cannot be forgotten. If it really is pushing people away as many feel it is, then perhaps when we are down to the last few someone will wake up and own their mistake. Who knows.....
Reddit does not participate in "sweeping under the rug" comments made against Cryptic. In fact, several notable members of the community—including moderators—have openly criticized Cryptic from time-to-time.
/r/sto does, however, greatly appreciate it when criticisms are made informatively, respectfully, and backed up by facts. Quite often, the more heavily upvoted criticisms are laid out in a respectful and civil manner, backed up by facts or that player's informed take on the situation at hand.
Far too often I see people who may have a legitimate complaint against Cryptic, but express their complaint in such a way that either violates subreddit rules or is simply being too rude (e.g., being a jackass, harassing other players or developers, and being immature/disrespectful) such that nobody can take their opinion seriously. The vast majority of the time I see people get downvoted for expressing a complaint against Cryptic, it's because they worded it in such a way that is incredibly rude/disrespectful, and thus few want to engage with them.
The problem, then, lies within the fact that there are many people who are simply incapable of expressing disagreement or complaints civilly, and that is why those people often get downvoted.

My serious point, don't bang on about "community building" by having a dig at reddit. Where exactly have reddit been saying the UI was great? Cause anything I've seen folks seem to hate it and anyone saying no it's just great gets downvoted. Here's an idea, don't say silly things and expect applause sul.

I never said anyone on Reddit was saying the UI was great. I was responding to another poster who said things get downvoted etc. on Reddit, by saying that some members there act as if they are on their high horses sometimes and that there is also bad there too. Not all members, but some do. That was the reason for my initial statement.
I never suggested members there overall support the UI.
I'm not trying to make this a Forums vs Reddit thing, what is needed is for everyone to come together as a community to keep this message going, we are not happy with the UI.
There are times in both formats where people cannot get their message across due to being too angry or rude, but that doesn't hide the fact that these people hold these views and the message still needs to get out there.
Perhaps one well written post looks better than an angry ranting rabble of similar posts. But that's the internet for you. We need to come together to get our message out that we are not happy.

There are "high horses" in every community. That's what happens when you get a large group of people together, occasionally you're going to have a few bad apples. However, generalizing by saying that those who are "regulars" need to get off their high horse is only worsening the problem, and certainly doesn't help us reach common ground.

Ok, so perhaps i didn't explain it best the first time, but I've tried my best to explain how i was thinking. There are people there who need to get off their high horses, just as there are people here too. There are also people there who need to learn howto post the opinions in the correct way, just as there are here.
None of that is relevant to the topic of this thread though, it was merely brought up due to another person suggesting nobody listens here and Reddit may have been better, although in their opinion things were often down-voted.
This is just derailing the topic at hand here so i'll only post more if it's relevant to the OP subject matter.
