A skant is a skirt seen in first season TNG being worn by several male crewmembers. Check page 1 of the thread someone posted a screenshot.

Thanks! I was hoping it was some kind of T6 ship!

Apparently the colony is the size of a standard episode map with "lots of nooks and crannies" to discover and will feature events which Fleets can run for themselves.

If this is true, then it would be beyond awesome :)

I've been wanting to see some colony development and a planetary holding for a while - looks like we'll get both.

I was under the impression that we could only access the ship bridges. How are we supposed to get to all the other locations like engineering and ten forward?

Just step inside a turbolift. You'll get options to visit Engineering and Crew quarters. And possibly some other options if you own the Voyager bridge.

Only works on faction-specific ships though. Lobi, lockbox, event and cross-faction ships like the temporal ones usually don't have anything besides a bridge.

But I actually enjoyed the episode arc (could've done without the patrol episode fillers obviously - but like I said, some of them were pretty fun and interesting). And it was the first recruiting event we've had, which felt fresh at the time. Plus we got a long list of VOY actors which was pretty neat imo.

    > Would generally agree with all of that, my simple point originally being that LoR was the best expansion so far and people REALLY did love it. If Victory is Life is modelled on LoR, taking some of the lessons learned from all subsequent expansions, I can only see it as a win win for Cryptic and us.

I agree DR introduced a lot of mechanics changes and T6 ships, upgrading etc. not to mention the much need expansion from lvl50 - 60, and while yes, when it was first released, there was a lack of content that had to be filled with patrols and not everyone liked some of the mechanics changes at first. Now if you look back it setup everything that has come since and all the initial issues have either been addressed or people have seen the long term benefit in them.

Overall I think DR was under rated and was a credit to the developers that they created a release that fixed/changed the mechanics and a bunch of other under the hood changes rather than pandering to the masses to maintain short term popularity.

Hopefully ViL will be a blend of both DR and LoR. I'd like to see another 10 levels added to the max level limit, the gamma quadrant added (which I'm sure will start with minimal content, but will setup a whole bunch of future releases to fill it up) and a new playable race would also be good. I've done FED, KDF and ROM to death lol. And I was disappointed that AoY was only really an alternative to the first 10 levels of the FED. However, while the DOM will make a good new race, tbh I was kind of hoping the next new playable race would be the Borg lol, how awesome would that be?

Either way, I hope ViL is created for the long term support of STO and not to satisfy the short term whinging of the masses.

No more Levels, that's what we have Specializations for. :(

I respectfully disagree. Specialisaion are end game content to me, like the reputation system, but adding another 10+ levels to the max level provides a lot more options, new tier of ships, new captain skills, new levels to existing captains skills etc. etc. Plus you can only use one and a half specialisations at anyone time so there is limited incentive to go beyond the ones you will use to suit your play style.

And from the developers point of view, nothing keeps people coming back more than an expansion to the max level on your character(s) as it feels like more content. Where as a new specialisation is only relevant to the people who are completionists, who like grinding, or who feel the new specialisation is more aligned to their play style.

Although, its probably horses for courses, as to which method you prefer but I don't think you can say they are the same. Why can't there be both? Specialisations and more levels?

    > Because you are talking about T7 ships, a shed load more grinding for X toons (where X is a non-insignificant number), the devaluation of all that we've done in the last 20 months since the previous level rise and so on. I know, for a fact, that if another 10 levels were added to the game, apart from the lunacy of finding a new rank for our already enormously highly ranked toon, that many vets would end it, call it a day, finish the game, or certainly, and without doubt, cease all spending; I would be in the latter group.
    >
    > Now, if you want to increase the level cap at some point in the future then so be it, but not yet, it's way too soon, I would be looking at another couple of years before I would find it acceptable. Instead of vertical progression how about lateral progression? There is more than one way to skin a cat, and vertical progression and another DR disaster could be a nail in the coffin that this game may never recover from.

Not necessarily talking about T7 ships, just a possibility, but I would like more content, something new to aim for and something I can repeat on my X characters. At the moment I complete the content on my characters quicker than they release it and end up starting new characters for something to do.

Although I do agree with your comment about "the lunacy of finding a new rank", perhaps 'Star Lord' although arguably that is already taken.

Open to the idea of lateral content, but what would you suggest? I'd want more than a couple of STF's in a new category you have to repeat over and over or specialisations which again are achieved by repeating the same content over and over. If a new reputation was introduced similar to the original Borg one, with several different ground and space STF's I could be satisfied.

Is throwing you toys out of the pram and saying, I won't play anymore if you do this or don't that, not a little counter productive?

There are many possibilities that enrich end level content that do not require the simple slapping on of another 10 levels.

Like a modular leveling system and ship design scheme. If Cryptic wants to give players more XP-based progression and ship classes they can always add another specialization.

    Neat idea.

I wouldn't have to grind for it though, infact ... doing the math ... they'll need to release another 3 specializations all with 30 points before I run out on my main.

They already announced a new primary specialization coming. Its called "Miracle Worker" and it was part of the announcement this thread is about.

Will be interesting to see the full details of this specialization when it hits tribble.

1.) Skant and Type 7 for free:

    Neat. I like free stuff.

    2.) TNG Galaxy Interior:

    Neat as well.
However as far as I can tell that interior mentioned in the news will be used in an episode.
It is of course highly likely that they will release it as a bridge, as they did with the Voyager interior.
But I wonder: I bought the Galaxy bridge pack years ago. Will those receive an update or will the TNG be stand alone and a separate purchase?

In any case I hope this combined with the Voyager bridge sets a trend that we will see accurate bridges in the future.
I personally would very much like the bridge of the Enterprise A used in ST6: A Undiscovered Country:

    enterprise-a-bridge.jpg

Or the Bridge of the Enterprise B used in ST7: Generations:

    enterprise-b-bridge.jpg

I think those two in terms of visual aesthetics hold up the best considering the TOS movie era.

May I just say that I really appreciate that they reworked the Miranda and Constitution of the TOS movie era
    They look so much better.
I really hope they extend this love to the by canon probably most and longest used ship of the Federation: The Excelsior-Class and its refit.
Because that ship can look really good with more details and a more accurate paint job as well:

    750?cb=20081101171402

3.) Season 14: Victory Is Life:

Well new content is always good.
Will be intresting what they will change this time around.

4.) New episode "Beyond The Nexus":

So we get La Forge. Well I have to say his eyes look wrong. I get that they seem to go for the implant look in First Contact.
But you know they used these blueish contact lenses to have contrast to his brown natural eyes so you would notice something is wrong with his eyes. Here it really looks like he has blue eyes... and that looks just wrong.

    5. New 5-Tier Fleet holding:

Gues huray to waste marks and stuff?
  • ltminnsltminns Member Posts: 12,572 Arc User
Yes, they did a bang up job on the Lobi Store NX Refit. They must have put a lot of stuff aside because of all the work they did there. ;)
