    Seriously?!

Why can't you guys do what you did with the T6 Sovereign and release a not-as-exclusive version for the C-store?
You also already have a version of the T6 Rommie ship on the C-store, so why not have first ship and one of the most popular ship designs, more readily available for your customers. You have to know you would make money on this, so why not?
I, for one, would gladly pay for a C-store T6 Connie.

Same reason they couldn't do a T6 Connie outside of an R&D box.

CBS said no, as CBS believes the Connie should not be a T6 ship, or widely available to players at that tier, so Cryptic has to put it in a r&D event to keep the % of people who get it low enough to meet CBS's requirements.

This has been talked about SO MANY TIMES, how the hell are people still so ignorant about it?

Maybe because it'S always forumites who claim that and never CBS ? :p

    Well, darn.

I guess this is what I get for getting my hopes up for a T6 C-store connie. :'(

Well played, Cryptic/PWE. By doing this you almost guarantee that only the super-space-rich will be flying this Iconic wonder.

I love the ships but the method to obtain them really doesn't make them worth the effort. Especially after all the hassle to even get these ships (a staple for the franchise) in to the game in the first place.

Being hyper nostalgic and ignoring my utter loathing for gambling boxes, I sucked it up and got 10 promos - no special ship box of course... They should publish odds of acquisition methinks... Someone tried to sell a box for 400 keys...

It seems to me things are getting to the point where sending real ($100-$200) cash to people is the real end game methinks... Sad to say but you know it is going on when the cost of things in game are so crazy....

You didn't just, you know, figure that you weren't gonna get a blockbuster promo ship for cheap in the c-store?

Actually, as per the usual pattern regarding model updates, that isn't an unreasonable assumption.

I'm not going to bother arguing your belief that T6 ships are 'cheap' as that is a matter of opinion. One which I do not share, by the way, I don't feel that $30.00/$60.00 USD for a virtual item within a game is such a great value for my money.

Also, there have been plenty of 'blockbuster' ships sold in the C-Store instead of gamble-box promotions, these sort of things appear to be reserved for ships which are excessively coveted. Thus ensuring that people will gamble for them. And those unwilling to spend magnitudes more than C-store ships for a single ship purchase are SOL.

I find this doubly unfortunate as ships released in this manner are single-character single-items, and cost much, much more than other non-gamble box ships. I have no objections to 'premium' items costing more than basic items, but this is a bit much. (But this is also just an opinion, and I have no intent on trying to force it on people.)

If Cryptic really wants to use a "drug-pusher" business model with these new starship skins, then why not offer upgrades for all the T-5 or lower dilithium ships. I've pimped this idea here a few times on the boards (never in this forum), so I'll throw it out again just for sake of discussion.

    Upgrade/refit scale:
    Tier-1 to Tier-2 ($5.00 or 1 token).
Tier-2 to Tier-3 ($10.00 or 2 tokens, cumulative if ship was upgraded from T-1 to T-2, so only $5.00)
Tier-3 to Tier-4 ($15.00 or 3 tokens, again, cumulative from lower tiers and thus either only $10.00 from Tier-2 to 4, or $5.00 from 3 to 4).
Tier-4 to Tier-5 ($20.00 or 4 tokens, again cumulative from lower tiers).
Tier-5 to Tier-5U ($27.00 or 4 tokens, plus the $7.00 Tier-5U upgrade token, again cumulative from lower tiers).
So a Miranda Tier-1 that you start with could be upgraded from Tier-1 to Tier-5U to suck $27.00 out of you and have a nice ship that your Toon can use from the start that also advances as you Toon does.).
This would also entice players to buy more shipyard slots and drydock slots.
Unique starship skins, special consoles, and Tier-6 ships in the C-store would not be effected because the dilithium ships would only be getting more consoles, hitpoints, and weapon hardpoints but none of the bonuses, consoles, or Tier-6 Boff specialty bridge consoles.
Since players' Toons would still be getting "free" dilithium ships as they advance in level, the incentive to upgrade said ships will be there without detracting from the C-store ships much (if at all) because the dilithium ships will not have the special abilities, skins, or Bridge Consoles of those craft.
It's an idea I think that could work, and it might help bring in more cash for Cryptic from players who no longer wish to play these lockbox games, but are willing to dish out cash to upgrade ships like the T-2 Nova class or T-3 Akira Class, or even upgrade a T-4 Galaxy to T-5U for another ship platform for Reputation weapon and gear custom builds.

Just giving Cryptic more ideas to drain our wallets dry.

I would like to second this idea. Just make it a ship level token, or something. One that buffs a ship one level up. It'd be nice to do this and see some of the old designs around.

I would like to start off by saying I enjoy STO and I want to support it. I know developers need to provide for their families and companies need to earn a profit. I have no issues with this.

I have spent a lot of money on STO; much more than my wife knows about. I started by purchasing 3 copies (2 for my kids) of the game. Then followed up by a lifetime membership for 1 account and monthly subscriptions for the other two for a long time. I have spent a lot monthly, on a few occasions more than 50 dollars. Several months ago, I used over a hundred keys trying to “win” the Connie from the alternate time line without success. I ended up purchasing the ship off of the exchange from the credits I obtained from selling the lock box items.

I’m really turn off by the idea that I have to “win” a ship found in the Star Trek series. Yes, I already obtained the T1 and T2 Connie but after the beginning levels, it’s worthless. I love the original series ship and the refit too. So much I just spent 20 dollars trying to obtain it without success and now I feel suckered. So, how much money do I need to spend to fly a 50 year old ship in a game? Perfect World, do you care about your consumer base or are you going to squeeze them for every drop you can until they despise you?

It’s very rare for me to write in forums but this sales approach really angers me.

Star Trek fans are a loyal group, but people can only be pushed so far.

Cryptic nothing. Artist Thomas Marrone did the model and skin updates on his OWN time! A fact that deserves acknowledgement, gratitude and respect. Thank you again, Mr. Marrone!
I wish him that the profits from this promotion are directly transferred into his personal bank account. ;)

Them not making a separate TMP refit version of the T6 constitution seems like a lost opportunity.
  • goodscotchgoodscotch Member Posts: 1,680 Arc User
Going to purchase some of these this weekend on my Klingon and my Federation character. Giving it a go and rolling the dice. The ST:TMP Constitution was always my favorite rendition of the ship. I am hoping beyond hope that someday...two things will happen...first, that Cryptic will revisit the D7/K'tinga and give it some artistic TLC and second, that they will come out with a T6 Vor'cha (also with some artistic TLC).

Maybe, but with the Dev's past stunts, I'm just having a hard time believing anything like this.

What past Dev stunts are you alluding to?

Them not making a separate TMP refit version of the T6 constitution seems like a lost opportunity.
Not having provided a Tier 5 Fleet Grade Constitution before Delta Rising or waiting years to provide a Tier 6 Constitution also seems like a lost opportunity to me. I suspect these are opportunities they simply never had.

In this instance, what makes it credible is the weird timing. We've barely come off the Smuggler Escort promo, and they rerun the 23C ships one - not even an Infinity R&D pack promo. This is a bit of a departure from Cryptic's normal pattern which suggests some marketing knee-jerkery when they realised they could make some money off Mr Marrone's unpaid overtime. Seriously; we get the blog announcing what is, ultimately, a cosmetic upgrade fitting no particularly obvious schedule. Then a couple of days later we get an unusually rapid promo rerun. Compare with the NX class, whose art update was trailed months before the rerelease. This does not feel anywhere near as planned as Cryptic's marketing normally is - hopefully Mr Marrone gets a good bonus cheque as a result.

I buy a lot of ships in the C-store (I'm embarrassed to say how many), but I will NOT gamble to get a T-6 Temporal Light Cruiser.
As the user "crazynubbins" pointed out on Reddit:

You can calculate the cumulative probability of getting a desired item from a lockbox with the following formula: 1-(1-p)n. Where P is the probability of the event and N is the number of attempts. So, assuming that the odds of getting a ship from a single R&D pack is 1%, After opening 100 lockboxes you have a ~63.4% chance of getting the desired ship. After opening 1000 R&D packs you have a 99.9957% chance of getting a ship. 3506 packs are required to get 100% chance of a ship.

    Lockbox Odds

I don't think it really works that way. For that to happen, you need to have finite amount of packs with defined number of ships, and ships dropping at regular intervals (every X-th pack drops the ship). This is only way you can get a ship after opening X packs with 100% chance. If you randomize which pack in every consecutive lot of X packs drops the ship, you still have chance not to get ship after X packs are opened.
Since there's no limit to how many packs PWE can sell, and no defined number of ships during each sale, your chance to get a ship from each pack (no matter how many did you open beforehand) is always the same (unless PWE decides to change it on the fly).

  • echattyechatty Member Posts: 5,913 Arc User
Actually, your odds of getting the ship are the same, no matter how many boxes you open. Each box has the same chance of producing a ship. You don't improve your odds by buying more boxes.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D
