With other events (like CC) I do all 8 of my toons. With this nightmare, I just do it on 1 toon. If a lot of people are like me then that's many fewer runs happening per day.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
About 25 was the magic number of rifts, if quickly closed, that would placate the respawn before this incarnation of the Event. People just wanted them to end Phase I when all Rifts were closed and spawns placated. What did they do instead, was raise the number to 40.
They shortened up Breach for Events the last time, they didn't shorten this one at all.

There will be no more maximum number of rifts in the first phase when the patch on Tribble goes live.
According to the patch notes on Tribble, rifts will spawn in Phase I until the timer runs out. Just what we asked for (not) to end Phase I when all rifts were closed.

Come on. That can't be surprising. Waiting missions are Cryptic's standard way of doing things. Almost every queue has some kind of timegate in it. They want us to do the time in the missions, no matter what.
Just look at the new First Contact Day event. Absolutely nothing you did had any effect at all on the result, you literally just had to be in the map for X minutes to get the reward. What do you think that says about their priorities?
The worst are the ones that put cancel in the window all the time, yesterday i had to wait, as the window appeared 6 times, because some brilliant user was cancelling every time the thing was about to start..
usually with an event the wait time is a matter of seconds if not instantaneous, been waiting and waiting with very little or no activity.
Are you queued or just watching the queue? Rule 1 for PVE: actually join into things you want to play. Don't just complain about what doesn't get played, put yourself out there and try to play it.
Timers and players in queue can be unreliable as they can both lag behind actual activity or break entirely (which seems to be the case here. Even at odd times, I have never had an issue joining into the MI queues, especially this early into the event.) They can also result in behavioral autocorrelation. Things don't get played because players see that no one's playing them. That's a significant issue for the other queues, but its possible it may have affected the OP in an odd moment of "the heard standing at the riverside, waiting for someone else to jump in first." Regardless, the solution is just to jump in. Don't think about it, don't try to game the system for the most optimal match ATM, queue honestly for what you want to play.

Well, they shortened it somewhat... the time between the end of phase I and the beginning of phase II was an unskipable cut scene in earlier events. The classic Obisek quote "it's working, the players are being forced back into their own universe" was in it. As we have to wait it out anyway, I have to say I rather liked the cut scene.

the new UI for fleet actions also isnt helping... i open it up and it's not on top of the list... this new ui is totally garbage... did anyone ever ask for it?
I can do the queue on normal on 1-3 of my toons, but there is no way i'm doing anything but Cryst. Catastrophe on all my 18 toons... the rewards are simply not worth it (especially with the admirality farming dilithium for me)
I've had a few long waits for normal and some longer ones for advanced.
To be honest i enjoy the mission, it's just a shooting gallery really. Good place to practice piloting, hone your tactics and lining up attack runs as there's endless waves of enemies.
Personally, although advanced is a better reward i find the spawn rate and portal opening rate absurdly high and it just turn into a ****-storm in a few short minutes. So i normally fly normal now unless in a premade group, and getting that arranged is a goddamned nightmare with the crappy new UI.
Oh yea! Advanced is WOW..Even running around in a fast ship closing portals in adv is tough..If you cant wipe out huge swaths of NPCs on adv its easy to get over run/blown up..SO..if you do adv..Hit and move right?
Normal only takes seconds if not instant. from Zone chat I can see instances numbered way over 100, so obviously many are playing this queue, at least in Normal.
I have 15 char , and I been playing this on most,, NOT for the end reward, but for the competitive marks! the new PVP queues, ( Binary and Core etc ) have long wait times, often fail because of AFK players, and don't reward that much. the mirror event gives decent marks with daily bonus, I can be done with it, before the regular competitive queues even start. So I will be able to earn enough marks on my toons, to finish the rep. and there is that dil reward also.

They didn't shorten it at all. They broke the cutscene so it no longer plays and instead all the enemy just inexplicably disappear, but you still have to wait the length of the cutscene before the dreadnought actually spawns.
Also, don't tell Cryptic, but when Mirror Invasion event started, the Borg and Tholian Alerts got Competitve Marks in rewards choice too (i did not see them there before)....
Yeah, running it on 9/52 myself. The time involved on MI and Breach prevents me from running it on any more, unlike CC, where I can run it on about half my toons.

Also, if it takes you an average of 30 minutes to queue for MIA or CCA, then either something is incredible broken (as it normally takes less than 10 seconds, for both -- and I've literally queued dozens of times for those now), or something is working incredible well, in that the new queue matching system is telling you that you suck horribly, and have no place being in an Advanced queue. Something to consider.
I'm playing it on three of my toons. I've had some not-spectacular runs, though I think sometimes it's because too many rifts spawn right at the beginning and it became hard to keep up. Going on station defense was all I could do then.
Still, I'm determined to have fun whether we're roflstomping them or not. It's all up to RNG and who you get matched with. I just do what I can.
And I've never had a very long wait at all for the normal queue. Don't think I want to try Adv since I actually want to DO something when I'm there other than sit for 13 minutes and do nothing. I'd rather do my doffing/admiralty while in sector space or something, not when there's an attack going on, giving people something to do.
I still don't understand why people would complain about having nothing to do for three to five minutes, so they decide to do nothing for 13 minutes. Doesn't compute.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.

the answer to these types of things is, and will always be people are dumb, lazy, and selfish.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
That's very true. I've always figured on at least trying to do the content when I go into a mission/stf/event, even if it means I have to repeat it many times to get what I went in there for.
It's why I don't try to do it on all (more than a dozen) of my alts and am only doing it on my three favorites.
Afterall, I just did Skirmish six times to get five of the special personal shields and the polaric modulater before going on to do What's Old is New. Or will do it by tomorrow. Depends on what I and a friend get up to after maint.
Now a LTS and loving it.

Been trying to just keep my mouth shut about this, but I'm so tired of seeing these whiners. If you don't like the event mission, then don't run it. If its too much work to do it on your 40 characters or something, then don't have 40 characters. Some people actually like the mission, I do. Some people actually like stf's that take more than 30 seconds to complete. Some people aren't lazy sob's that just want everything handed to them for free.
Another change they need to make to it. AFK'ers get nothing, zilch, nada. If don't close at least one portal, zero rewards.

This. You don't at least try to run the mission then you get nothing.
I'm not running it on all my alts because that actually takes longer than I want to devote to just this. I love all my alts, but even the allure of 50k dil isn't enough to make me want to spend half a day running them all through it, even though I do have the time most days. I'm not that interested in the console except as a collector's item on one of them who likes to collect trinkets.
Still, like you, I like the event and I do my best to close rifts/power the station/protect the station if I have to. If I see that there are swarms of ships coming I go on station defense. It's how one run before maint ended with the station only going down to 9.

It's a priority login to the actual game from back when it was a sub only game that in theory would have waiting times to get online and playing.
I doubt that mechanism even still exists today.
Talking about moderation, that rarely ends well.
