nobody playing mirror invasion?

bobbydazlersbobbydazlers Member Posts: 4,534 Arc User
usually with an event the wait time is a matter of seconds if not instantaneous, been waiting and waiting with very little or no activity.
very occasionally the queued counter goes to perhaps 3 but then within seconds drops to zero again.
add to this the fact that the event "wait time" indicator usually show 30 seconds to a couple of minutes at most yet it is displaying N/A all of the time.
is it just that nobody likes mirror very much so they are just not playing or have cryptic shot themselves in the foot by offering the event shinny's via the phoenix box's ????

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Hey thats some good news right there! Perhaps cryptic will learn and burry that event where it belongs.

The decline of event participation has been going on for years. I remember times where cca events attracted almost 800 peeps at any given time. Last Breach was already at 20-30. Does not surprise me at all that it would eventually dry down to a handful willing to play this nonsense.

Peeps play to have fun, not because they want to be bored to death by the same old stuff forced in a 14 day psycho torture package.

Are you playing it on normal, or advanced? I noticed most people just play it on normal for the sake of getting the daily item for the project, but won't bother with Advanced mode.

I have been queueing for the normal game, just want to get the token as easy as possible.
I would like to say as quickly but that doesn't really apply to mirror does it.

EDIT 10 minutes later: out of curiosity I gave the advanced queue a peek and it actually had a wait time of under 1 minute so I thought to heck with it and queued up, didn't alter the fact that I was queued for 10 minutes and still didn't get a game.

Played the original version of Mirror Invasion as often as I could on as many chars as I could. I got squat for rewards but it was fun. This version? I play it on one char who needs the additional Marks. 14 days for 50,000 Dil works out to far less than I can make just doing DOffing and Admiralty. 500 Bonus Marks means I can play any STF on Normal once per day for about 7-10 days and come out ahead.

    Thanks, I'll pass.

I have done it 8 times a day since it has started and I have not had to ever wait, it pops instantly, even at 4 am in the morning

Have to admit I'm one of the people not doing this event much this time. Only occasionally on 1 toon just to build up a few more tokens and 2 other junior toons that need a few marks to finish a final rep and some ship trait mastery. I have zero interest in completing all 14 days of it on any toon.

My competitive rep is more than complete on all toons marks wise and was done "competitively" which for me at least is much more fun.

The event should have been revamped long ago so as to not put folks to sleep and after thinking about it I can earn more in-game by doing other things and have a better time while I'm at it.

Maybe it's time they put this one on the shelf if they're not going to tweak it. No disrespect intended if you like doing this event, just my 2 EC.

    Issues:
We've done it hundreds of times
15 min runs with a good chunk of that just sitting there - this done not mean ferry things back and forth should be added
I don't need an 80th universal console unless its stupidly OP
On advanced it always fails, as you're too sensitive to damage when closing rift and activating beams, so their numbers just build and build, so everyone runs normal and its boring. Sure that can be built around, obviously people aren't motivated to do that.

    Suggestions:
Olde times mirror invasion was a go in and shoot stuff deal like red alerts, how about alternating?
Or re-scripting other STFs so they have mirror ships - mirror ship ISA/ ISE etc would get the punters in, and I would think be fairly easy to re-code.
Or randomise the bad guys and have mirror whatevers showing up, devs can play at respeccing npc factions' weapons and powers

Either there's something wrong with your game or you're playing at the wrong time. I'm doing it on all toons and the Normal pretty constantly pops instantly as I press the join button and at most it takes a few seconds. I'd assume it has N/A for waiting time because there is no wait.

But I would agree with you that nobody likes mirror very much. Going through it is a chore people do for the reward, not because they like it.

It's surprising the amount of content in the game that people won't play either because 1) it takes forever and has time gates associated with it and/or 2) it offers no reasonable rewards.

Any time they make content like that, and people eventually stop using it because of those reasons, it's just wasted development time. And as a result, lost money. Players not accessing content is burning Cryptic money. You'd think they'd learn their lesson and stop making gated content. It only lasts a while before players stop bothering.

One day all timers in queues will be removed and every queue will have a choice of mark rewards. A shame it'll take another 10 years.

Hopefully not. The ridiculously easy, fast queues that reward everything are the reason most of the queue list is empty.

Feel free to take a look at the number of peeps in queue for ISA as well as CCA. The ice got thinner than ever with the launch of S13. In short they are close to be dead as well. Either that or the new UI does not display correctly.

The only thing they could do at this point to get peeps to play again is double the rewards on teamed PvE maps while cutting them in half everywhere else.

I could live with that just fine, but doubt it would be embraced by the average STO player with whom the concept of “earning” does not seem to sit well:

I've just run a bunch of advanced matches across my toons and probably not had to wait more than about 4 minutes. Many of them were pretty much instant matches. Do you have issues connecting to other queues?

Yeah, MIA is annoying rubbish. And right now, after 3 days of wall-to-wall MIA, I hate the pug: O, what brave new world that has such sucky people in it! :) But I'm sitting on 2,000 Competitive Marks, on both my active toons, with already the console from Rep 1 done. These next 2 weeks are gonna be the weeks of Hell, though. After this, I might go really MIA from MIA.

But, on-topic, can't say MIA takes a long while to pop; usually within seconds.

The new UI doesn't display players playing the mission at all, just the ones waiting in line.

CCA has an estimated wait time of 18 seconds, ISA 1:24 and the red alerts 41/51s. During an event. I'd hardly call that "close to be dead."

Since I don't have a Windows computer for a while I can't play. Now if Cryptic had a native Linux client or their current STO client still ran under Wine I'd likely be playing. That being said, Albion is what I've been hitting up lately since they do have a native Linux client.

I have not noticed any issues queuing up MI normal. I typically play it once per day on each of my 11 characters since it started. The mission typically starts within 1 minute.
  • redvengeredvenge Member Posts: 1,425 Arc User
I played the "revamped" Mirror Invasion once. Never touched it again.

I don't care what the rewards are. Playing the game should be the reward. It should be fun. The Mirror Invasion is not enjoyable.

I guess it's nice they added the Competitive marks to the Mirror event, but I am not interested in the Competitive rep, so... meh?

You might as well play on Advanced. Even if it's a complete CF, you still get more marks than on Normal, and it's not like you can finish it any faster because of the timer. I just fly around making sure the generators are up, and to hell with the rifts and the base. It's impossible to keep up with them anyway. I'll close a rift if it's unguarded or if it's causing me a problem with a generator, otherwise not even worth it. Once the base's defenses are fully up, I'll fly around the outskirts to see if there's any other rifts I can easily close, but otherwise just wait the timer out. 90-100 marks even with dead base and barely any rifts closed.

reward doesnt strike my fancy... doing only 1 toon. they really need to make these items account unlocks. if folks want to run it on multiple toons for the dil they can...
  • koppsterkoppster Member Posts: 179 Arc User
It's a bit of a fail this time round. A good team running normal mode can clear up the rifts and get the station to lvl 5 in short order, so you're left twiddling your thumbs for ages as you have to wait for the timer. Then there's the mysterious delay when the timer actually reaches 0.00 before anything happens.

Advanced mode might as well be Elite. It's far too difficult. All in all, the stf takes far too long and at least on this occasion, the main reward isn't worth it.

The timer is the same, but the queue pops faster on Normal and the dready dies faster on Normal, so it is a little faster overall.

If the extra marks are more important for you than speed, yes you might as well play on Advanced. I go for the faster option myself.
  • questeriusquesterius Member Posts: 8,489 Arc User
It usually pops within seconds for me. Both on normal and advanced.
Problem might be your timezone or (perhaps) the player potential system screws up the queue.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Advanced mode just makes the targets massive bags of hit points, and PUG teams cannot be trusted to pull their weight. My dill mules are not DPS gods, and I have fifteen of them to get through this slog, so Normal it is. I've yet to wait more than 30 seconds for a Normal MI to pop.
  • ltminnsltminns Member Posts: 12,572 Arc User
As usual, only going through with 5 of 14 Characters. One thankfully, had 5 dohickies saved up from the last time. one other 1. The Normal Queue pops very fast. The 75 second wait at the start is still ridiculous. I have now had 2 of 20 Queue runs where we had to wait after closing rifts for Phase II to pop. Both between 1 and 2 minutes down time. Cryptic took player's complaints to heart about having to waste 5 minutes for Phase I to end; they upped the number you need to placate the spawn from about 25 to 40. Presto, you won't have 5 minutes of down time. Have had many other runs in the mid to high 30s of rifts closed that was not enough to placate the spawn.

The dreadnought goes down faster these days. Maybe, the next Phoenix Prize Pack will include the ISS Stadi Admiralty Card as well.

Those time gates are killing me. This mission needs a "vote to skip description" in the beginning, and then the "transfer power/close rifts" phase should only take as long as required for the team to get the base to level 5 and close X number of rifts. Arbitrary time gates are TRIBBLE. TRIBBLE!!!

this is the reason why I only play it with one toon instead of all of them. It simply takes to long to finish, with those time gates.

I've had a few long waits for normal and some longer ones for advanced.

To be honest i enjoy the mission, it's just a shooting gallery really. Good place to practice piloting, hone your tactics and lining up attack runs as there's endless waves of enemies.

Personally, although advanced is a better reward i find the spawn rate and portal opening rate absurdly high and it just turn into a TRIBBLE-storm in a few short minutes. So i normally fly normal now unless in a premade group, and getting that arranged is a goddamned nightmare with the crappy new UI.

15 minutes is too long but 13 minutes wouldn't be? I have never seen people close all 40 rifts with more than 2 minutes left. (I agree about the opener, but it does give people a chance to load the map)

At some point, I think people complaining about this event need to ask themselves "If I don't like flying around and shooting stuff for 15 minutes, why am I playing this game?"

The basis of this game is space combat. If you don't like it, then perhaps it's not just the game for you?

Lots of people do seem to like it. After finishing MI on my characters last night, I did a few deep space encounters. They were all crowded.
