STAR TREK ONLINE REBOOT

What is Star Trek Online Reboot?

As a long time Star Trek fan as well as player of STO since Beta, I am just one voice of a legion of loyal followers who has grown weary of the same repetitious content found in our beloved MMO. While the work of the Developers is very much appreciated and received, it has does not represent the wants of the entire STO fan-base, despite repeated pleas through the forums, in-game and social media outlets.

Therefore, I put together a collection of the additions, modifications and overall reboots that players such as myself would like to see implemented in STO.

Developers please take heed.

Lockboxes:
Lockboxes have changed little since inception and always includes several new ships and armor in a 3-4 piece set. If this template is to be adhered to then additional items types must also be included with each new lockbox.

• Unrestricted Starship Allowance: With new starships constantly being introduced, the cap on how many starships a player can have should be eliminated.

• Bridge Officer: Just as some players collect starships, others collect BOFFS, therefore a new BOFF should be introduced in each new lockbox.

Starship Interior Customization:
While starship exterior customization has been allowed since the onset of STO, the same cannot be said of the interior.

• Unrestricted Bridges: Player should be able to choose the bridge of their liking for their individual ships, so long as they have access to a particular bridge and it is specific to their faction.

• Customizable Ship Stations: Similar to the Unrestricted Bridges mention above, player should be able to swap different types of corridors, sickbays and engineer rooms, so long as they have access to them and they are specific to their faction.

• BOFF Placement: Rather than having their BOFFs randomly placed about their ship, players should be able to manually assign specific BOFFs to specific stations and/or areas.

• Crew Uniforms: Players should be given the option to choose what uniform their NPC crewmembers wear about their starship (as designed by them in the Tailor).

Federation Races:
Two new fan favorite races should be added to the list of available races that players can choose from:

• Denobulan:
A race of physicians and scientists, the Denobulans have been members of the Federation since its inception.

• Deltan:
The Deltans rival the Betazoids and the Orions in their empathic ability and sensuality respectively.

Klingon Races:
Two new fan favorite races should be added to the list of available races that players can choose from:

• Chalnoth:
Taking a cue from the Nausicaans, the warlike Chalnoth have sided with the Klingon Empire, rivalling even the Gorn in their brute strength.

• Kazon:
The various Kazon sects that arrived in the Alpha quadrant soon found a kindred spirit in the Klingon Empire and quickly allied with them.

Romulan Races:
Two new fan favorite races should be added to the list of available races that players can choose from:

• Suliban:
Without a home world of their own and abandoned by their temporal patron, the Suliban found themselves adrift in space much like the Romulans after the destruction of Romulus. Their mutual interest in cloaking technology made it possible for them to ally, ensuring the survival of both races.

• Flaxian:
Long time employees of the now defunct Romulan Empire, Flaxian society suffered after Hobus due to their dependence upon the Romulans. As a result, many Flaxians have once again pledged their loyalty to the new Romulan Republic.

Cardassian Faction:
The long awaited fourth STO faction of the Cardassians should finally be included. Much like the Romulan Republic, the Cardassians would be a mini-faction with players able to ultimately choose an alliance with either the Federation of Klingon Empire. Players should be able to choose from the following races:

• Cardassian:
The dominant race of the Cardassian faction, they are a people with a sordid past but now seek change and are still recovering from the destruction caused to them by the Dominion.

• Son’a:
Once a race of nomadic raiders, the Son’a were allies of the Cardassians, but suffered their same fate when the Dominion turned on them. While many Son’a have returned to their birth world of Ba’ku, others have instead optioned to stand with the Cardassians and forge a new dynasty together.

• Tarlac:
Once a subject race of the Son’a, the Tarlac have been freed from their indentured servitude with many of them joining the burgeoning Cardassian faction.

• Ellora:
Once a subject race of the Son’a, the Ellora have been freed from their indentured servitude with many of them joining the burgeoning Cardassian faction.

Bridge Officers:
A host of long overdue new BOFFs should also finally be made available, each with new and challenging traits and abilities:

• Edosian:
(Federation only)

• Efosian:
(Federation only)

• Xindi Primate:
(Federation only)

• Xindi Arboreal:
(Federation only)

• Xindi Insectoid:
(Federation only)

• Ocampa:
(Federation only)

• Boslic:
(Available to all factions)

• Yridian:
(Available to all factions)

• Bynar:
(Available to all factions)

• Chameloid:
(Available to all factions)

• Special Bridge Officers: Similar to the TOS Photonic Bridge crew that STO introduced, other special BOFFs should be introduced via conventions or contests, such as: The Next Generation crew, the Deep Space Nine crew, the Voyager crew, and the Enterprise crew.

In addition, notable individuals such as the EMH Mark II, Harry Mudd, Morn, Lt. Saavik, Commander Barclay and others from Star Trek canon should also be considered.

• Unrestrict the Tailor: A painfully long awaited request from the STO fan base, the Tailor should be unrestricted and allow players to customize their BOFFS in faction specific uniforms. In addition, racial uniforms (ie. The Ferengi Alliance, Gorn Hegemony, etc.) should also be made available.

• Bridge Officer Allotment Increase: With new BOFFS being introduced, the cap on how many Bridge Officers a player can have should be eliminated.

Starships:
Finally, starships awarded from events (ie. Winter Wonderland, Summer Resort, etc.) should not be repetitious and need to be expanded to make available other racial vessels besides the usual yearly Breen and Ferengi variants that are continually rehashed.

Other viable options are Andorian and/or Orion ships as well as the Vulcan Science Academy’s Jellyfish as seen in Star Trek: Nemesis.

Again, Developers please take heed. Your players would greatly appreciated it.

Yeah, this thread is going to be locked. There was a similar thread for "Star Trek Online 2.0" that was created and closed within the past week.

If you would like to change the title to reflect that these are changes you'd like to see made to the CURRENT game, then I can leave this discussion open. Otherwise, if you're basically asking for STO 2.0, then I'll have to close this as an FCT thread. Your choice.

in regards to unlimited starship slots, i'm going to quote myself on what i said in another thread
you can't have unlimited ANYTHING in computer code; that's why caps exist in the first place - because going over them makes the engine s.hit itself and crash

regarding kazon KDF allies: holy f.ucking khaless NO!!! give them to the federation - they like working with darwin rejects
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

The game needs to fit within about 3.0 GB of memory to work correctly. It's a 32-bit executable, and that's the memory limit for the process, no matter how much real memory you have on your computer. All these things you want added will make the game unplayable.

In other news, Morn is already in the game.

Sounds like a long list of PERSONAL requests. We have no way of knowing if you really know a lot of people who want all of these things. And your post count is only 10, so unlike some other forum posters, you haven't established a lot of credibility.
That being said, I'm all for more options and customization, but the game is pretty freakin user friendly already. And as for the event ships, the methods of acquisition are VERY easy.

Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

I must disagree with the vast majority of the first post.
Game limits are there to encourage a players' individuality and choice.

I do like it when someone makes a post on my behalf and everyone else's behalf, it means that i do not have to post anything for myself :dizzy:

Don't get me wrong there are some good suggestions in your post and others that need to be rethought.
Unlimited BOFF slots, Ship Slots, Character Slots etc etc are just simply not possible in the confines of the program just like true random is not possible in code.

I give cryptic their dues they do their best to break the confines of the engine they use considering it was not originally built for STO, we have all seen the effects of that in the BUGS that pop up from time to time lol

Please stop making posts on behalf of everyone, they will likely get ignored by the Devs and if you have something to say at least tell them your thoughts and not what you think the rest of us wan't

Another Cardi Faction request...sheeesh. It's not happening unless they remove the Cardi ships from the Lockboxes. Should be an FCT. In fact I'm surprised there's no Borg request in here too.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

If we're going to reboot STO...why not show a little bit more equality between the factions? Why do Feds get so many exclusive Boff races while the other factions get none?

Basically because Star Trek (the IP) isn't geared towards an equal faction game. There is dozens of races in the Fed (most never shown as named onscreen), while the KDF is already stretching it in this game, because by canon the Klinks are just one species. More KDF races would mean either adding some with hardly and to no connection to the Klingons at all, or inventing new ones. Which wouldn't be that satisfying. And it's even worse for Roms.

Why do Feds need a couple dozen different Boff races, and all the new ones with unique powers? If it's all about playing space barbie with your boffs then you can just customize aliens...they don't need new traits and abilities.

    Klingon Races:

    • Kazon:
The various Kazon sects that arrived in the Alpha quadrant soon found a kindred spirit in the Klingon Empire and quickly allied with them.

This suggestion made the Opening Post lose all credibility. The Klingon Empire has some standards and suggesting that the Klingons would lower themselves to ally with the Kazon dishonors the Klingons. After all, the Borg rejected the Kazon for assimilation due to being unworthy. If the Borg is unwilling to assimilated the Kazon, then why would the Klingons ever bother with them? It is far more likely that the Federation would ally with the Kazon due to the Federation's idealistic nature.

Why are some more BOFFs akin to a "reboot"? The title is confusing. And in your long list of suggested Boffs and races, no grazerites? The last president was one!

Sorry, OP, you don't speak for me. Nor do you speak for anyone else except yourself. Where do you get off telling the devs what *we* want when you have no idea yourself what *we* want? You only know what *you* want.

Personally, I don't like any of your ideas. They would break the game more than it's already broken. I like it just fine the way it is.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

But the game still needs more bacon , one does not simply get enough bacon :)
