Auto Locked Items

A friend of mine, who is new to the game, has been opening lockboxes and selling items he no longer desires on the exchange. This includes lockbox ships. Everything was fine until the update this past Thursday. Now apparently, when he opens a new lockbox, the items are instantly bound to his character/account and he's getting mildly frustrated. His inventory is starting to get overwhelmed with items he cannot get rid of (unless he just discards them) and he needs the EC from said items to continue progressing through things like Duty Officer Missions and similar. He has stated that if this issue cannot be resolved he won't be buying anything more from the C-Store and his consideration of becoming a lifetime member would be nullified. Any solutions PWE or Cryptic? I enjoy having him in game, and I'm concerned if he gets too frustrated, he may discontinue playing all together.

Sounds like his account was placed on a probation period. It is allegedly to help fraud prevention, but seems to happen mostly with people who have bought zen through Steam. After an unknown period of time, items bought will not be account bound, but it does not apply retroactively to items bought during the probationary period. The length of the probation is not set, and buying more zen during the probationary period can actually increase it. As far as I know, no one from customer support can tell how long it will last or lift it.

Sohtoh, thank you for the reply. I was able to alert him about the Steam issue and he says he discovered his "probationary period" will end this upcoming Thursday.
