Recall also that Andorians mate in sets of four persons. While others mate in pairs. In-game marriages or bindings could offer such choices for roleplayer's. For those who don't roleplay and simply don't care? Well. They simply don't participate.
Other popular MMORPG's do offer such things as an actual mechanic of the game. A general search will find the games that do so. Often in unique instances which fit the games setting. Some game charge the player. Others don't charge at all. To my knowledge most of those games don't make server announcements. Though I know of some games which offer player titles for display. Suffixes such as [insert character name], Heart Mate of [Other Character Name].
Cryptic could make the weddings free. And charge for the break-up's.

I want to marry that Lukari woman, all my female characters, Sela and her mother, a borg queen, for RP reasons of course. Think of all the good times we can have together.
Several of the PW games seem to include a marriage mechanic, so there must be some demand for it, somewhere. Whether there's enough demand among this player base to justify the development overhead... is another matter. (Besides, consider the setting. Do we include same-sex marriages? Andorian four-person marriages? Denobulan interlocking three-person marriages?)
I'd leave the whole thing just to RP, to be frank. In-game mechanisms look like they'd be too much hassle.
Players can get married in the real world, can't they?
What's a 'real world'? Which quadrant is it in?
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

If a marriage mechanic did exist (which I do not support btw, I have a wife irl, I don't need a RP spouse as well), why the hell wouldn't same sex marriage be included??

Probably because half of the player base would quit the game in protest, with a few sending burning paper bags to Cryptic HQ via vourier. Yes, that is a thing. The UPS guy is specifically told to ignite the bag on delivery.

Space Barbie Extraordinaire. Got a question about Space Barbie? Just ask.
Things I want in STO:
1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!

Are you sure? People threaten quitting over all kinds of nonsense, like playable bioships or endgame TOS Constitutions. Admittedly, these are possibly mostly US Americans, so maybe this is issue is really serious. To 0.5 % of Trek fans. They should have stopped being interested in Star Trek since Dax met her former lover...

Even if characters could marry in game, what purpose would it serve to the career narrative?
What did relationships serve the career narrative of Paris/Torres, Trip/T'Pol, or Riker/Troi? Star Trek Online provides a blank canvas for character creation. Episodes focus on specific engagements (because that fits gameplay) but players are welcome to project whatever else they want onto their characters. That's the RP aspect of the RPG. How players approach that pretty much comes in infinite combinations, so while someone may effectively write themselves as a focused career officer (a la Kirk, Picard) another might try to weave a family narrative or a relationship into that (a la Sisko, Sulu.)
That's what customization across characters and bridge officers gets you, coupled with bios to help keep this stuff straight. It's human story telling. I think the consensus here is that's plenty for RPing. Marriage mechanics (a la Fable) aren't necessary.

yeah i was just thinking it would be cool if they let players get married for RP.
then if they get tired of it later and decide to break up both players could get half of each others stuff.
maybe if there are ships involved each person could get to use it each week?
and how many players should be able to get married to each other or should it just be 2?
Define marriage.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Let me marry L'Miren (Iconian waifu) and I'll be happy with the option.
Heh - 'Which NPC would your character date/marry' would make a good thread in itself
I kinda imagined my character offering the World Heart to L'Miren with the Iconian extending her trembling arm towards it, nearly in tears, with the whole scene playing like a proposal.
It's not something I would be interested in, but If the devs found the time, I don't think I'd care either way. If this makes things more fun for some players without becoming a PITA for the others, then who cares . Also, would someone please pass along my offer of marriage to Sela ?
I'm very entertained by those whose response to the question is to leave it to RP. I read criticism of PvP players that suggest pretty much the same thing. Can't they simply roleplay it and stop wasting dev time on PvP development? Yet, to some degree, games offer PvP support for player's to partake in. Or not, as the case may be. Roleplay support, in this case a wedding-like mechanic, wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea anymore than PvP is.

So what happens if someone, or several someones create child toons? Ever consider what would happen if players decided to engage in polygamous child marriage? And what of inter-species relations? Sure Vulcan-human may work, but what about toon-pet or human-Gorn? Might want to think through the ramifications first.

Nice try, but it's a bit too forced since the mechanic already exists in other games and could serve as a template (and none of those constructed issues ever came up with rational minded people). If you want to stir up flames you'd need to be a bit more witty
