You could be a good bf and do the tutorial for her. Afyer that you can skip it.
Yeah, no. LOL. The point of a tutorial is not to torture the player, but to actually, you know, teach them! Most tutorials are annoying, because you're constantly frustrated not knowing yet how to work the controls and such properly. That isn't magically going to go away, simply by having someone else do the tutorial for you.
Oh indeed. I am surprised by the amount of people that don't pay attention to the tutorial, rushing through all the pop-ups, then they come on Zone chat ask for where the map is etc, etc. It's my number one hate in MMO's.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Personally, the only thing about Dust to Dust that I hated was the disappearing bridges maze and the other maze. The rest I can live with. Especially when I do want those pieces as that's a great set.
You can gimmick the bridge thing though so it's really not that bad. If you had to actually honestly beat it it'd be horrible.
Easy mode gimmick: just run really fast and get as far as you can before the bridges go. the big one has multiple respawn points and if you do this right you'll respawn at the next one. Repeat until you're across.
harder but will get you the accolade for not dying: there's a tiny ledge on the far right that you can climb onto and sneak across without actually running the gauntlet.
I'll try to remember this next time I have to play it. Not gonna dare on my laptop, I'll wait till I get my desktop fixed up. Might be awhile since my SIL is working long hours these days, but as long as I can do some stuff from my laptop I'm happy. I should even be able to manage Flying High if it's that long. Hopefully it won't be.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.

YMMV. I did all the accolades honestly and loved it. And for reruns there's always ability to set the puzzles on easy and coasting through no sweat.
Only thing I hated about that mission was the story. In the end you lose and zombie!Harry goes native.

How does one lose? And with Harry actually getting a second chance for life...I mean he was blown into space...and either choked to the death, or froze to death, left for dead for 30+ years....and then given essentially a new life....that's a pretty sweet deal. Plus his Kobali girlfriend's a hottie, imo....so Harry's got a sweet deal going on there.
Anyhow, I made my STO account in 2013, BUT my compy was no where near powerful enough to handle it...even the opening cut scene with Nemoy's narration was so choppy, the compy was practically choking on the game. I did not get to get the game going for a year later, in June of 2014. I never got to play the original tutorial....though I wish there was a way to be able to, like maybe as a playable que for a weekend or something.
One thing about the tutorial we have now.....is it me, or they have Elissa put on some weight? I have Elissa on my main fed toon, which I made in 2014, and she is quite slender....a more recent toon has her and she's a bit more cuddlier in build...not that I mind, mind you, just an interesting observation is all.
I can see a sorta JJ vibe to the tutorial, in regards to Taggart getting shishkabobed by the Klingon captain, but we don't crash the Miranda into the Negvar he's flying....and your character lives on.

One loses, because the zombies win. They get to finish brainwashing Harry, just like they did the woman in Voyager. It sucked.

I'm a 'grizzled embittered veteran' type when it comes to MMOs so I tend to know how it all works. Which is good, because most MMOs don't even have a proper tutorial. Many settle for giving you basic controls and telling you 'off you go, have fun!'. Some don't even bother with that (like World of Warcraft). So to have a tutorial that covers the basic controls and also giving you a little story to go with it? That was nice.
The story itself (I'd made a federation officer) was a bit...fantastical for my tastes. A ship full of cadets going toe to toe with seasoned klingon warriors and then the borg on their first flight, after their captain had been abducted? Yeah, no. But then I guess it's no more fantastical than some of the situations the various Enterprise crews got themselves out of, right?
Anyway, at the end of the day, it felt a little more 'natural' to learn various game mechanics with a storyline to put things into context, instead of it merely being dumped into the main game and having to learn entirely from popups.
OP does have a point though.
Most games I've played have a 5 - 10 min tutorial. You're in, you're out. And for the most part, it gives you sufficient understanding.
That said, if OP's gf got fed up at the tutorial stage, then there wasn't much of a chance of her sticking around to begin with.
Some of the episode mission are truly a pain to complete in comparison. Dust to Dust for instance immediately comes to mind as a horrible torture fest of a mission. AND you get to repeat it 3 times if you want all the Kobali set pieces. Its 1000x worse then the tutorial.
Poor thing would've never survived "The Cardassian Struggle" ... or any of the other torturous episodes a new character has to endure (and repeat multiple times).
Forget the tutorial. She never had a chance.
Mechanics wise I really liked Dust to Dust and would put it up as one of the episodes I enjoyed the most. Downside being that the mazes made little sense whatsoever. Upsides are gameplay variation and a few "I feel like a challenge today" vs "I just want to breeze through it really quickly" choices, and I like the trench run which I feel is "Linear battlezone done right".
And the "Cardassian Struggle" has been revamped, so it is way shorter now: fewer episodes with less expansive runs. Still, some of the old maps I considered quite nice, so I am a bit divided here.
When we start talking "Coliseum" though... or my gameplay wise hate no. 1 (The "Shuttle Race" patrol in Delta)... then I won't stop saying dirty words.

Yes, well, that's just the heroic writing style of the game. The STO player character is the metaphorical hybrid of Superman and the Doctor (as in Doctor Who, not Voyager). Completely undefeatable, except by the occasional stupid plot device.
And the Feddy tutorial starting you on your graduation cruise is nothing. The romulan tutorial starts you as a farmer in some backwater colony, commandeering someone's 200 year old busted-up warbird with only one other crewmember, fixing it with some wreckage found in orbit and using it to beat the elachi and Tal Shiar. It's absolutely pure awesome.
Personally I like it a lot. If I'm gonna play a hero, I wanna play a HERO. But it's a matter of taste of course.

Ahh, but you get 60 levels of face roll quests to do to learn game mechanics and the internet is your friend when it comes to key binds and what does what.

Only you wouldn't learn that many things and struggle massively in the beginning to get the simplest of things done. Also, relying on the internet is something I often do, but which shouldn't be the game designer's plan, especially not for basics.
Also don't forget that STO caters a lot to casual players who may not have that much experience with MMOs nor First Person/Third Person games and their usually similar key layouts.

Check this archived post for a good Max Ground Speed discussion:

TL;DR:
1) Motion Accelerator, 2) a weapon with [Run] - either or both: simple speed boosts (more details in post)
