no, what they need to have is a goldar that actually LOOKS like goldar...i can accept rita's new look, the funky ironman-esque ranger suits and even alpha to a degree, but i absolutely draw the line at that...thing masquerading as the new goldar

If this movie makes the same mistakes as every 80s/90s "remake" before, namely taking itself utterly serious, it will fail. All those reimagiantions forget why the originals were so charming and entertaining - because they had irony and "self awareness" and in the case of say RoboCop, it was genuine satire. The remakes up to this point ALL failed in that regard since they tried to be all "edgy" and "dark", making them much more ridiculous than the 80s/90s goof.

        I have to disagree.

This would have been an awesome basis for a movie/series reboot.

Yeah, the thing with Power Rangers is that the fans of the original are all adults now, and while it's fun to sit back with the kids and watch the 90's cheese fest (my 3 and 5 year olds are obsessed with Power Rangers right now, lol), it's even more fun to imagine how a more mature take on the story would play out.

What I feel makes the premise of the dystopian future in the Power Rangers fan vid is that idea that the good guys lose, and lose badly. Defeated in battle, undermined from within and betrayed from without by the very people they're defending for noting more than base profit and power. Most of them die, other give in and switch sides, others just give up and disappear. One or two keep up the fight. It's a dark, horrible end to what were once great heroes...but now others are standing up, and the dark grittiness is balanced out by characters that simply won't give up.

It's a kind of story that asks what people are in the dark, and nowadays that's not a question that gets asked very often.

Really? I think cynical fiction is quite popular these days. Tons of stories are about a world where things are broken and corrupted beyond redemption. Oddly Power Rangers actually did do a dystopian season in an alternate universe where humanity was on the brink and the enemy was using every underhanded tool in their arsenal to win. Despite this setting the heroes still managed to stay heroic without devolving into an "everything is ruined forever" attitude.

My children were in the right age group to enjoy the show. And it was fun to watch them get immersed in all of it. They both are just past college age now. So when they called and asked me if I would go with them to this, I said yes.

Don't get to spend as much time with them any more as I'd like to.

I've been happily watching MMPR, MMPR: The Movie, Zeo, Space, Megaforce, and Super Megaforce on Netflix with my kids for a couple months now, but then again I was a huge MMPR fan as a kid myself :) watched a little Dino Charge (4 year old lives the purple ranger for some reason), not really impressed by that one. Haven't seen any of the new one, Ninja Steel, yet.

I took my 3.5 and 5 year olds to Rogue One and they were fine, so I'll almost definitely be taking them to Power Rangers as well, it's all they want to talk about right now anyway.

My kids have no idea what power rangers are, not likely they ever will. They do know He- Man and his sister, Inspector Gadget, the Gummi Bears, & Looney Toons.

Sadly, the meme I wish to use to reply to this has the 'F' word in it, but if you've seen Deadpool it's the line right after this:
