I am not paying time to get them. I click 'claim' and there they are.

Agreed. You were not paying time - you were spending it.

    Thanks again.

Nope. I was given 46,500 zen worth of free ships without having to give anything in return beyond the time and effort it took to click 'claim'. It really is that simple.

Check those definitions, and see what you find. Remember, these are your own words.

Oh bugger, you've spotted the gaping flaw in my argument, this house of cards is tumbling down...

...or (and bare with me here, it's a wild ride) it could be that the time and effort used is negligible and therefor statistically insignificant. Certainly not equatable to currency transfer or grind.

If you wanted we could work out the joules of energy needed to press 'claim' and then compare it to the energy required to purchase zen and enter card details then re-log and purchase, then we'd also have to calculate my monthly output at work and divide that by the amount of currency needed to purchase the zen giving us one action where one action would give us a fraction of a joule and the other would give us a result measured in kilojoules.
We can do the same with time as well, obviously minutes are not equatable to days in terms of work and certainly not if we plotted them against the equivalent energy used.
As I'm a stand out bloke I'll let you know that the sketch maths in my head has calculated what's known as a 'near-zero' result for the 'free' ship acquisition and a far higher (almost exponentially so) result for the paid option.

Now if you thought that my use of the base concept of 'getting something without imputing any time or effort' was anything more than a easier way of 'getting something without a statistically significant time or effort' then you don't understand how physics, language, economy, or humans work. Even worse is you seem to think everybody else has no idea how physics, language, economy, or humans work.

Aren't you English or something? How is it you do this so often?

    "it's a wild ride"

Yes, and for all that is still incorrect. No amount of over explaining can create logic from nonsense.

Let's see how I do it shall we...

Step 1: Take one mobile phone
    Step 2: Write text
Step 3: Do not observe phone auto-correct correct word with different but situationally incorrect word

It's easy if you try. Now if you notice, it dosn't alter the meaning of my argument except for making a common idiom into a nonsense one, but (bear with me here) that's not part of my point.

Now would you like to try address the argument you're so cleverly running away from? It's clear you're reading the posts in enough detail to pick out homophones so you must be able to comprehend the rest of the words.

Do you have any particular insights into the usages of phrases such as 'no time at all' from a standpoint of commonality? Do you want to talk about Plank time and how in that sense there is nothing in the Universe that's 'free' when it comes to time?

Or do you want to continue bitching in other peoples threads about words you don't understand in sentences you don't understand for sentiments you can't comprehend?

Edit: I get that you think you're clever by correcting my grammar when I corrected yours, the difference here is that it's a Samsung keyboard that's altering words I'm struggling to make out on a phone screen, you have no such excuse. Phones do not change 'have' to 'of' ever.

I thank Cryptic/PWE every time there is a giveaway. I used to be FTP, then I was gifted with a lifer that I could not possibly have gotten for myself (I loves my British friend).

I missed most of the email promos because I didn't know about enabling promo emails from them and the fact that the thing is hidden. So I enabled it after the gold Ferengi ship debacle and received the latest promo email ship. I love it.

I still consider the Event ships freebies. The event you need to complete every day takes so little time that I don't consider that a grind at all and I actually find them fun. If doing a Flying High, Fastest Game on Ice or Omega Stabilization once a day on one captain to get the ship for them and the rest of my captains then yeah, it's worth it to me.

And yes, I know at one time if you wanted them on all then all had to do the event. Then one had to do the event for 1000 trinkets and the others had to do it once for 40 trinkets. I'm glad they did away with both of those.

I've gotten some clothing I wouldn't otherwise have, bank slots, inventory slots, spec points and some things I can't think of at the moment. So yes, I thank them for every one of those. Wish I could have gotten the Phalanx. Must have been a giveaway I wasn't around for. I did score the Varanus when it was given out, so that's an acceptable substitute.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

I would't exactly call them free. They do require far less time or effort that earning money to pay for zen to buy normal T5 or T6 ships, but they can be a lot of work for some people. Prior to this anniversary event I might have lumped them in with the giveaways, but as I'm having to relaunch the game after it crashes at every map moving screen it's taking me up to an hour to visit three maps and scan particles for a few seconds, it gives me a better understanding of peoples complaints about their lack of coordination, or lag, or their internet problems relating to earning event ships.

We're not having to put money into earning the event ships, but the time different people have to put in means I could't justify including them in the total.

There is one currency that everyone seems to casually forget..

    Entertainment Value.

I play this game for one reason only.. for entertainment. I play it for fun.. if I am having fun playing it, then I consider it worth my while. At the same time Cryptic has to support their metrics and they need to see positive numbers in daily player login as well as average player count.

I'm already playing the game to be entertained, and lets face it.. the events required to get these ships are usually pretty painless. In the case of the Omega daily game, that I would be doing anyway. I spend a ton of time farming Omega Molecules anyway, so this ship really was free for me. I just did what I was going to do anyway and after X days I could claim a ship.

Now, I admit, I wouldn't go to the Winter Wonderland every day and run the race, or fly a jet pack around Risa every day if there wasn't a ship as a reward, so to some extent.. yes, I'm doing 'extra' for these items. But when I weigh the 'work' involved against the reward and my entertainment value, I personally believe I come out well ahead on the event ship give away.

Honestly, the intent of this thread was pretty nice, what's amazing is how hard and how vigilantly some people will work just to TRIBBLE all over it. I honestly don't care if anyone agrees, I consider the give away items to be pretty nice and I think they're worth the 'effort' they take by far.
    Insert witty signature line here.

Everyone has their own opinions. Right now I can't even play the game till I get another processor for my desktop. My laptop won't play the game at all (even on safe mode). Moving around is almost impossible. I could probably only do some DOFFs/Admiraltys/etc. And that would take time even on my desktop to do all of my toons.

So yeah, I understand some people who experience lag/rubberbanding. I'm just of the opinion that the event ships are free for just some of my time, however long/short it is. And I do admit that the Omega Stabilization mission is the longest one of any event mission to get a 'free' ship.

Sarcasm, yes - yet maybe not as far off as you think depending on what your time is actually worth. It's why zen exists - for people that have more money than time.

If you are one of those persons whose time is actually worth 30$ for 30 seconds...

Apart from that, I would call a free meal in a restaurant, a free concert "free" and not calculate the cost and time it takes to get there. But this is the way everybody calculates his stuff differently.

Yes. I never go to those free "timeshare" things, either.
