46,500 Zen!

in Star Trek Online General Discussion
Inspired by a post (now gone) a few days ago I decided to have a look through the C-Store to total up exactly what Cryptic has given me for free over the past few years. This only includes ships mind you as I found it too difficult to keep track of inventory spaces or spec points.

From Cryptic alone, there’s 36,000 zen worth of ships and from givaways from associated partners a further 10,500 zen.
That’s about £200 worth of free products from the C-Store.

    Don't you have the Avenger and T6 Sovy as well?

    Scrap that, you had them under "other", but they were Cryptic giveaways as well?

    I have the same array of ships methinks, plus the T6 bundle from the charity (Mirror Guardian, Mah'Ta and... whatever the Roms got, I seriously don't know any Romulan ship names aside from D7, D'Deridex and T'liss.​​

    Though reading the other people comments ... I have decided Starfleet needs to teach it's officers the dangers of alien weather cycles ... what if I come across a planet and it rains acid? Like the acid from 'Aliens' I could beam down only to have my face melted off!

    I'm pretty sure you are to check alien environments BEFORE you beam into them, and if your scanners don't work you wear EV suits. Yes, the show crews kinda sorta always got lucky, but... pig-2.gif​​

    they're called hurricanes here but even I got it....


    and yes Cryptic is plenty generous even if older players end up gettin fewer "new" give aways because they reuse some of the ones they have given previously, it is still something cool that THEY DONT HAVE TO DO. So yes, thank you

    Meteorologist Class? so cryptic should pay attention to where the weatherman and woman take their classes? O.o

    The Avenger is under Cryptic and the Sovy is under other mainly because it was an email gift that not everybody got like the reward keys from Rapter or MMBomb or wherever as those are also technically from Cryptic.

    I just want to note that event ships aren't really given away. We have to do something to get them and time is a resource too.

    Besides that, I agree with the opening post. It's nice that we get so much for free, and even more without having to spend money.

    33000 Zen here (I had the T'Varo from way back, and when the hell did they give the Oberth away? :open_mouth:). You don't really get a sense of how much has been given away until you do something like this...

    I think the costumes bump that up to 38 thousand or some such figure.

    Only oversight at all I can think of is they gave away the t5 Ambassador a while back, but no t5 Kamarag. In terms of give aways, that is my only complaint.

    I just have the Hots for both ships, and way more KDF toons than Fed so yeah totally biased.

    They have been very generous with us over the years, so I really can't complain, so much as mildly Lament.

    It may have been. Is there a list of old giveaways anywhere? All I know is I've used that console forever and didn't buy it.

    The lack of Kamarag is puzzling. Especially with the overall lack of KDF ships in the first place.

    I've gotten every single free ship given away by Cryptic or others, plus the Leeta charity bundle that was a steal at the price I paid.

    Great observation by the OP.

    I'm as critical of Cryptic as anyone.. often times too much so. That being the case, I continue to disagree with those that say the game is 'pay to win' or that they don't ever give away anything good.

    They have not only given away a sizable quantity, but many of them have been quality items as well. They have been more then accommodating of those that are purely free to play. Half the reason I have spent as much money as I have on this game is because they have never once made me feel like I had to. I spent to contribute to the game because I wanted to, never because I have to.

    I can easily take a 'freebie' give away ship loaded with all rep gear/fleet gear and face roll anything in this game. I honestly don't know any other free to play game where I could have that level of success using nothing but items gained from simple game play. It's probably the single best thing about this game.

    Nothing which I earn by an investment of my time is free. This is an exchange. They get paid any number of ways for their investment in my enjoyment. Sometimes by me, sometimes by others. But always by someone, or their business model would fail. Stop trying to act like they are in this for the mere pleasure of giving away free zen to all of us.

    Aye, thanks. Still THE BEST F2P model out there. There are.. ahem.. other scifi mmos that really cant come close to the sweet spot they hit with this game.

    Everything before "thank you" was you trying to tell us what we have to thank them for. They should thank be thanking US for spending our time & money here. But instead we get things like the giveaway week, where (if you didn't miss it) obsolete and outdated stuff is tossed to us like so many Mardi Gras beads to distract from the fact that they've introduced yet another grind & want us to "show them" something - our wallets. In fairness, they occasionally get something right, and extra ship slots is one of the best I can recall yet. I'll take them along with the other freebies, tyvm, because it makes up for the things I actually spent money on that are now worthless in game.

    It's like bread & circuses, and they are following a business model. I am glad you are enjoying the show.

    Speaking of circuses, what was it P.T. Barnum said?
