Here we go again with another 'mystery promo' that only rewards certain players with no clear criteria whatsoever.
It's fine, I didn't get one and I know I'll never get anything from these promos. After 4 years of not being deemed important enough, I have come to expect it. Apparently, PWE feels that promos like this do more good then harm, all I ever see it do is generate ill will from those that don't receive the item.
It's not a ship that I really want anyway, I just wish they would stop with these 'rewarding a select few' style promotions. All it does is generate hostility from those not included.
Yep. It's the same thing every single time PWE does these promos. Multi page threads with speculation and little children crying about not getting some new toy. Cryptic has given us so much 100% free stuff (other than just having to log in and click a few buttons in the CStore), that it just makes me shake my head at all the whiners in threads like this. But it is what it is and I can't see PWE ever changing the way they do them.
As for "not being deemed important enough", it's pretty simple. They'll only start to care when they get a trend showing a constant loss of players and decreased spending by players. Course by then it's often far too late to fix things. They also know that the majority of people saying they're angry etc, will just keep playing the game and that within a few days all the outrage will disappear. In this case, starting Thursday.
I have that box checked. I didn't get an email. I am active, spend plenty of money, and have shaken hands with most of the Devs in person. I already own the ship and am mildly irked but only mildly. I'd have a perfect use for the extra specialization points if I were to get it (my AoY captain is ~10 points from unlocking her third 30 point tree and buffing my entire stable of captains with new traits).
Having spent $30 to get the ship a little over a month ago, I'm NOT gonna congratulate the people who got one for free, but I'm not sitting here meditating on schemes dire vengeance either. If Cryptic wants to teach that not buying stuff for the first 6 months is the better strategy, so be it. On the surface it looks stupid to me, but I'm not looking at actual sales data. Maybe the ship sold so poorly it was considered junk to be shoved into the promo category ASAP.
If Cryptic wants to teach that not buying stuff for the first 6 months is the better strategy, so be it.
I suppose we don't know for sure, but things like the promo are done by PWE, not Cryptic. For the most part Cryptic appears to care about the game and players to some extent. On the other hand, PWE's actions always make it clear that the players are just wallets to them. That always leaves me in a bit of a dilemma. I'd like to give PWE the finger and never spend a dime on the game, but on the other hand I want to spend money to support Cryptic's work on it even though I'm not always happy with it.
That is a distinction without a difference. Those that control the money made the call. And the call affects future spending. Giving away your newest zeni store product for free is actively discouraging 'buy now!' thinking, and that's pretty much 180 degrees out of phase with most of their sales tactics.
Which (along with its weird and mostly terrible stats) makes me think the sales for the ship were burst and bust. Picked up by canonical ship fans for two weeks and then crickets.
I have that box checked. I didn't get an email. I am active, spend plenty of money..
Same here. Anyone claiming they know how or why some people were picked while others were not picked are completely full of it. They have no clue at all.
I'm NOT gonna congratulate the people who got one for free, but I'm not sitting here meditating on schemes dire vengeance either.
Also agreed. I honestly don't even want the ship, if I got it, I would claim it for Admiralty and then dismiss it. Still, I have the natural feeling of slight resentment that's common in people when those around them are given something I am not without any rhyme or reason. It's not even enough to call it anger, I would classify it as 'slight annoyance,' but annoyance none the less. I'm not going to play any less because of it, but I personally think these random email give away promotions flat out suck.
Yes Cryptic, by all means, **** off half the player base by giving away stuff with no rhyme or reason. Good plan.
They have made it perfectly obvious that they couldn't care less if people are happy about it or not. People get upset every time one of these promotions occur, people that get the item argue with those that don't and ultimately more people end up unhappy then happy. Still, they like this practice and it doesn't appear that they plan to change it anytime soon.
no. the threads are real. It's the people posting who aren't! Just kidding.
Seriously, you have to go into your options (either on the website or in-game/arc, where ever) and set it to receive Star Trek Online Notifications via Email. Otherwise you will not get any of this stuff.
Speaking of which, I've not gotten even an regular email update in several months. I need to go see why it's not working on my end. Same with anyone else who isn't getting poked with the STO stick about twice a month. A lot of the News items are also email updates. So if you don't get anything, you need to see what you've turned off.
*shrug*
I realize this was a bit late in the thread to state it, but I'm sure someone else has already said it.
To be honest, I don't know how often they put an email out. It's not like I get emails from them regularly, like on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis. Emails on season updates and expansions, yes, but that's usually after they've already launched. MAYBE a rare email about a new ship or ship pack that's out, but I can't be sure. I did get the Lockbox Survey email a few weeks ago, but that's the first time I've ever received a survey. I'm assuming that everyone who has signed up to receive emails gets these as well with the same frequency. Long story short, from my end their email communication doesn't seem to be all that frequent to begin with. So, are you saying that you get emails from them twice a month? Because I don't get them that often.

I smile at your honesty; it is refreshing.
I've given the matter some thought too, and I think I can honestly say I feel happy for those who received these gifts, but, at the same time, am not happy for myself -- if that makes any sense. I don't think the two are clashing. And that word 'jealousy', it really doesn't mean what many people think it does. But it's safe to say I feel envious. Could have really used that card for for my alt's Admiralty, and would have loved to shave off a month of the sec-point grinding too.
But, like I said earlier, and like you, I'n not going to 'punish' Cryptic with my wallet or someting. For one, because my doing so wouldn't make one iota of a difference, and I'd really just be hurting myself the most. Plus, I would simply consider that petty of myself. And yet I'm still irritated with Cryptic for playing these BS games, 'gaslighting' the playerbase with their constant unwillingness to divulge the criteria for each and every of these promos (thus inevitably breeding speculation and hostility amongst ourselves). Perhaps I worded that a mite too strong; but keep in mind I'm 'irritated' with Cryptic over this, not 'irrate.' I am also simply surprised. I mean, I would have figured they had learned how badly such a promo pans out, when they did the whole Gold-plated Ferengi Spiel. But I guess they didn't.

Way I see it, the rationale for these promos is simply 'To carry players half-way, and then to let them continue from there on in, spending money along the way.' We've already seen evidence of that on this forum, with players who, because of this promo, no longer dreaded the Long Grind, and started a new toon. That toon will soon start spending too; at least that's the plan. And then there's the gambler's effect of ppl seeing others getting valuable free stuff (thus already having the suggested implanted in them that they can, and likely will, win soon too; for instance, it's the System Announcer's sole purpose of informing ppl in channel about who won a lockbox grand prize).
However you view it, I don't think this fiasco is as bad as the gold-plated Ferengi ship debacle.

I didn't get this code, and I've never gotten one of these for any of the promotions. I must not be special enough to get things like this.
Have you opted in to receive emails from them? Click you name at the top of the page, choose Profile, click the three lines near Settings, choose Settings, choose launguage. The option to choose is there on the bottom.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.

Ive heard its random not everyone is getting the T6 sovvy, ive posted a fleet mailer and hav gotten mixed replys ome have gotten the code , and some havent gotten the code and the amount who hasnt is a much larger number.
I think it was sent to players at random so it really comes down to pure luck, and i think i cashed in all my lucky charms getting it because they are magically delicious.
Yes, it likely is random, I agree. But I didn't get the Sovvie until after I opted in to receive emails after the gold Ferengi ship debacle. Before that I never got any of the promo ship giveaways, although my son got a Guardian.

i got the email, claimed it. now how do i get it ingame? Ive been to the main starbase but cant get it? something im doing wrong, do i have to remove sell, or spacedock my current ship?
Open C-store, go to promotions tab, claim ship. Seriously, why are so many people so clueless how to claim a ship from the store?

Only because of the wording of the mail and the ship's non-exclusivity. The underlying principle remains the same.
