=+=+= IN GAME MEMORIAL FOR CARRIE FISHER =+=+=

when TOR launched, the devs added some jokes based on Yoda and lightsabers:

if we can get actual dev time spent on something as trivial as a joke for a game launch, how about some dev time being spent to honor one of the greatest scifi heroes of all time?

dev time spent for star wars joke but no dev time spent for carrier fisher?

thanks to all!

may the force be with us!!!

You could have suggested tastefully, instead, you went with guilt-tripping...

Also, please, stop putting random characters in your titles, they don't add anything to the subject.

Unless they change the memorial to include a section on non-Trek Sci-fi actors, something that I honestly would not be in favor of (STO should stay Trek IMHO), the only real option they have for acknowledging her would be to have us interact with a female Captain/Admiral Fisher in a new FE at some point (obviously without using her likeness).

This sums up nicely why it would be a terrible idea.

haha no! every celebrity would be too much!

they should only add memorials for main characters from franchises they have already dedicated dev time to add things from in game.

they already used dev time to do star wars jokes about yoda and lightsabers, so it is only fitting they use a tiny amount of dev time to recognize one of the most important charaters in that franchise too!

    thanks all!

may the force be with us all!!!

Just because it shines, doesn't mean it's a lightsaber. We can pretend that it's something unique to Star Wars, but it isn't. It's just a fluorescent tube, thousands if not millions of buildings around the world are lighted with those things.

And because there's some little green man somewhere, doesn't mean that Yoda is in the game. He doesn't even have white hair and last time I checked the species he shares most characteristics with is called a Ferengi.

So what you're saying is we should have memorials for every science fiction series then? Maybe have some for all the Babylon 5 actors that have died as well...maybe we can have a planet of dedicated memorials?

I.still say it's a waste of resources. I understand memorials for trek cast members, but other science fiction series should stay with their own series.

    haha! that is funny!

they put this stuff in the games the same weekend the TOR game launched.

the devs said it was just a joke becaue they were star wars fans too and they wished that game well.

dont try to rewrite history because you dont like it!

    thanks all!

Then it's still not a lightsaber. Or Yoda.

And if it's a joke, you should treat it as such. Memorials aren't for fun. Parties to celebrate someone's life can be, memorials are something different, certainly when you look at the style of the memorial for Trek veterans in the game.

In defense of bab 5 andreas katsulas was both G'kar in bab 5 and Tomalak in TNG

And i do think it can be done but a seperate memorial for iconic sci fi actors and actress' who had a strong influence on sci fi as a whole a genre.

But do it tastefully with respect to both the universe their character was in and the actor / actress aswell , not add it to the trek memorial but make a seperate one, i think one place that would be good is bajor.

We should not be divided but united not as star trek or star wars fans but sci fi fans , and appreciate those great actors and actress' who had an impact on the sci fi genre as a whole.

Memorials can definitely be fun. Depends on your outlook on life and death. Best way to remember someone is through celebration.

Thats a very irish way of thinking , and the way id want to be remembered when i pass , not by having my loved ones mourn my passing but celebrate the life i had , to share drinks and stories to have a good time and share laughs not tears :)

Don't get me wrong I love both series equally (giving ST the edge by a small amount) but as a new person to this title, I'd like to see them stay separate. It's sucks losing a SW legend but if she wasn't associated with anything ST then lets take a Colin Kaepernick knee (lol) on this please.
    ....Fascinating!!!....

I don't recall seeing an in game memorial for Gene Wilder, George Michael or many of the other famous people who died this year so why Carrie Fisher? she has no connection to star trek.
this business of in game memorial's is all very well but extending it to non star trek actors or celebrities is going over the top.

by all means comment in the general discussion to pay your respects for any celebrities who pass on but if they are unrelated to star trek that is as far as it should go.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Greatest science fiction hero of all time? That's a little subjective don't you think?

Since it looks as if most trek fans dont like an idea of honoring those important actors and actress' in the sci fi genre i will part with this pic

you can keep posting that same comment over and over as often as you like but it changes nothing.

The point i was trying to make was in the sci fi genre and only those actors/actress' and people who had a profound and influential impact in ALL manners of sci fi, even star trek.
