They figure people must have picked up a lot of Zen at the lower prices in anticipation of buying back Dilithium when the Exchange goes back into the 400s. So they will just give you something else to spend that Zen on now and not wait until later.

So does this portend that there will be a new promotion in the future as in the past, just the new guy on the block, or will they just add stuff to the Infinity and use that from now on.

Actually I think it was more of a p-take that they made it a T6 in the first place! Yes, I do have it, and yes it's so OP for it's size (I have the Konnie too) it's just not funny! Cryptic need to rebalance this game something cronic!
Probably will follow the lockbox idea. They'll introduce a new one at one point in the year, likely summer now, and then in winter introduce it into a "infinity" pack in order to drive sales for people who missed the summer version. It keeps the supply limited enough but making it so that people don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get something they missed out on if they can just wait 6ish months. That seems to bring the most balanced way to handle it since you have the people getting immediately when it's new and then people catching up later on when more people are playing for the winter/anniversary time frame to then spend after seeing someone flying around in said ship that they might want.
And since they're doing it again that means they'll most likely KEEP doing the promo over time. Just because you didn't get it now because you can't afford to gamble just means save up and buy it off of someone the next time it comes around. I also don't like the fact they stuck these in a gamble pack but it makes sense from a financial point of view even if it feels rotten. Things like this keeps the game free for people who don't want to pay anything and just do Dil -> Zen, regardless of if the perception is bad in terms of what's being offered.
More to the point, Defiant already flatly proved that size <> power for the franchise.
But people will seize any reason to whine about something.
And it's a shame, because I *really* want that T6 T'Liss. The Romulan Bird of Prey is one of my all time favorite ships in all of Sci-Fi, and having it as an option for my Romulan captain? That sounds like heaven.
But as a person who only hopped back on a few months ago (after years away) and doesn't have time to play every single day, I have to think there's little chance of me getting that BoP anytime soon. I have probably only around ~11million EC spread across my two main characters, my dilithium is tapped thanks to the Phoenix Boxes and me being stupid on Black Friday, and Black Friday still managed to drain a substantial chunk of my ZEN.
Guess once they hit the market I'll re-examine the situation, but sadly it may just be out of my reach for now. Eh, still got a Voth Bulwark and I'm having a blast in the Winter Wonderland! If I can get my T'Liss, then OMG YES! If not? I'll still have plenty of fun.
(But, oh sweet gods who are in Valhalla, I want one)
You're asking too much of Cryptic marketing - they want us to guess and be surprised.

It's there now but wasn't when I first looked at the post. They've been very lazy about attaching dates to things of late.
I'll pick up one or two then.
I'm not sure if directly related to this announcement but it looks as if the Dilitium Exchange is up about 50 from the lows yesterday.

The promo ships have never had any consistent pattern, I wouldn't expect one to be established now.

Some will say "oh you're so me me me". Let's think about it though, TNG fans you want to fly the hero ships you love? Go get an Archon or Andromeda and put the Galaxy and Sovereign skin on it. Love DS9 or Voyager? Sure, go ahead and play the ship you love from your personal favourite show. TOS fans? Haha, go suck on it... or prepare to pay out a few hundred quid or more with a chance to get nothing.
Does this seem like a fair way to treat your customers? All it does it give TOS fans a kick in the teeth and alienate them from the rest of the player base. It's also not good business practice, you don't secure the long term success of your product by alienating a chunk of your customer base with shady tactics such as this.
To everyone who can afford to throw enough money at this to get one of the T6 TOS ships, power to you and I hope you enjoy those ships. I'd personally love to get all of them since I adore the retro aesthetics from TOS. Me personally, I won't be able to do it... which really saddens me in a way. Us TOS fans waited for years and years with people screaming it would never happen. We got AOY, which I love and it was a great step in the right direction but then Cryptic delivered a virtual kick in the balls with this promotion. That's how it feels to me anyway.

At first, there was only the T5 JHAS which was rereleased 4 times in a calendar year. Then there was the one time (I think) Voth Bulwark. Then more T5 bugships. Then the Sheshar. Then the Sheshar rotated with the T6 JHAS. Then the Annorax was released and all three rotated for a year. Then the TOS ships were released. And now this.
I think that they will want to maintain consistency in the sense that they will still have 4 promos a year. But with more and more ships (and likely future ones), they would have needed some kind of infinity pack to ensure that all ships are routinely released. Plus, the infinity promo is a good decision because would ANOTHER Sheshar only promo really generate the same level of sales?
