Big Red Ring (Perhaps some Dev help?)

Can anyone tell me what this is? It keeps happening, and I haven't been able to figure out what's doing it. I prefer the game to at least resemble the actual shows, and that means less of the giant ridiculous effects. I want to disable whatever it is, but can't identify it.

    We're gonna need more information than just a picture. As is, I'm not sure you can disable the STO's vfx. Looks like you're flying a heavy cruiser retrofit.

    It's probably caused by one of the "Starfleet symbol" buffs to your ship. They don't have any icons so they're not really searchable.

    @colonelmarik what specs you using? Might help narrow it down. Also what gear? This is more flashy than an older effect, so it's probably one added after DR.

    What specializations are currently equipped? There is also the possibility of it being one of the Ultimate Skills from the new Skill changes.

    It would be the skills from maxing out Tactical, Science, or Engineering that might have a visual effect. I think Commando can be disregarded due to it being a Ground Specialization. If it was Command, then that might cause an effect.

    I think it has something to do with the Terran Task Force Quantum Capacitor Warp Core.

    Just by the look of it, I'd say it's a Intel effect. Do you have more details on WHEN it appears? As in, only when you're sitting still, only when you're activating abilities, only at full impulse, etc.​​

    Its nothing in the Command spec. I have that one maxed out, and have never seen anything like that. I would look at the Ablative Field Projector, and the Chroniton Drive Actuator. I have the Maco shield been using that for years and nothing like that so that can be crossed off.

    For some reason when i saw the OP's title, i thought about the re-occurring joke regarding the Xbox :)

    Also, i haven't seen that particular effect either, so I am not sure what it is.

    Funny how people opposing the option to turn off these ridiculous VFX always defend them as "informative"...here we are and nobody knows what it's supposed to be informative about.

    And yes, from the title I thought this was about the xbox error, too. :p

    it's probably Improved Predictive Algorithms - i notice in that screenshot you recently activated beam overload, and that's a weapon enhancement, one of the things that triggers IPA​​

    Here is quote from STO Wiki (for the M.A.C.O. Resilient Shield Array):
    When receiving All Energy Damage, applies Power Conduit Link
    +2 All Power Settings for 15 sec. This effect stack up 5 times.
    Maybe it's the trigered effect?

    And on the picture the power panel looks like Power Levels got boosted.

    Were you fighting anything at the time? Some NPCs have special effects, either newer hybrid spec abilities or universal console equivalents. Also, is there a full size of this instead of a cropped image, or did you actually take a photo of the screen?

    That's a blue rotating X on the front of your ship, not this effect.

    No. That's old-school stuff, and old-school stuff has very little flash. Only thing even close in size for MACO is the shield-bubble animation when at Warp.
