@seaofsorrows yeah you're right. The excelsior is my favorite ship and I used the t5 version for a long time as my main ship back in the day, but it's just a very bad ship now. Only really useful for those that really like the design. One thing that really sucks about the excelsior is that they never improved the classic model like they did with the other canon ship's. The t6 sovereign isn't as bad, better layout, and improved model, but if you've already got the arbiter or the vengeance there really is no point. Happy for the players that really wanted this ship tho and don't care about maximum deeps.
Yeah, sadly.. once they hype dies down, this beautiful ship will sit in virtual exile with the T6 Excelsior due to it's lackluster performance. They really have a thing for making the iconic ships the worst performers.
For a design standpoint that makes sense - it'll sell on looks alone, and if it were prefect... or even good... it would choke the life out sales for the less iconic ships with merely 'similar' performance levels. There's a whole class of customer who would be entirely satisfied to the point where they won't even look at another tier 6 ship, ever. So they give you a choice of canon OR performance, but not both.
I have four captains flying different configurations right now while I unlock the ship trait. Normally I just can't go with the TDI shield/hull material and the baby-puke brown w/ sparkles. But in this case the ship is so big the sunbaked mud texture ends up being fine-grained to the point where it's hardly noticeable (its there on the rim of the saucer and the underside of the nacelles). The crackling white-on-teal in the Bussard collectors just makes the nacelles look wildly energetic to me. Future ship, even by 2610 standards .
Id say wizkids "borked" this up. They didnt make enough to support an entire extra player base. I ordered mine a whole month and a half before release and my vendor is giving me a "we'll look into it" on my order fullfillment.
I loved the concept. People just underestimated the demand and it blew up.
I certainly don't see myself dry docking it in a couple of weeks and going back to something else as my main. I've wanted a T6 Sovereign since T6 became a thing, and I personally am very happy with what we've got in that regard, both in terms of looks and functionality.
Personal opinion. It's a decent Intel cruiser, but it's really just more of the same. I've got other cruisers that do the same thing with very similar bridge officer and console layouts. I only recommend this ship for players that don't have many t6 cruisers or those that love the sovereign class design.
This.
Apart from finally having a T6 Sovereign, it is a bit underwhelming to say the least.
Also considering cancelling my pre-order for the Wizkids version, as I can only see using all three consoles for the battle clock, making the ship worse..
Especially when I already have the Fleet Eclipse, that wipes the floor with it.
To be honest this ship is pretty much one of those that falls into the 'only for the skin' catergory. I.e there are better options, but none of those options are the hero ship that the players know from the series/movies.

As far as I'm concerned they're shooting themselves in the foot with that.

It's more formulaic than anything else to me. They have such limits on how the ships are arranged, that they can't keep a wide enough variety of competitive or unique ships. There's no reason for them to release a ship that's a canonical hero ship that's not near the top of the heap when it's released. The choice of performance or canonical is false, something they created. The tier 6 Oddys are all gorgeous ships, people would fly them even with the choice of a Tier 6 Sovereign if its what they want. Why be lesser because it's one of the ships that built the franchise?
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
For the same reason the KT connie was released before the TOS T6 connie. Release them in the right order and some people will buy both. But release a upper percentile effectiveness canon ship and you'll lose a ton of sales from players that just will not budge from that. The gap doesn't have to be huge, but there's a real and financially significant reason the Eternal was released before the T6 nebula.

I got the pack from my local store but the code doesn't work, still waiting for Crytpic support to help.
