A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"

"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Sorry the Zero Mostel/Gene Wilder version was far superior.

Trendy drained the poison of malcontent passive-aggressive ****-stirring out of the forum and its been vastly better for it.
Sometimes a doctor has to remove the diseased tissue.
I hope whoever takes over for her will be as bold in doing what is necessary.
I can believe CM for an MMO is a thankless job, so I want to say THANKS trendy! You're a superstar!
Sure, some of the folks she banned definitely needed it, and as I noted upthread, I've got no tollerance for the kind of creepy weirdness which she (females in general, really) are lumbered with... But as I said, I would expect a community manager to really energise a community via contests etc, which she never did (although to be honest, I can see why)

That's a damn shame, because he was an excellent community manager... I guess The Powers That Be didn't want someone treating it as a 'buddies hangout hobbie' rather than a job, but I stand by my assertion that his engagement with the community, was First Rate
"Didnt give away enough free stuff" is not a good criticism I don't think.
Instead, Trendy was very supportive of player-driven events and giveaways. She worked with the folks of Shutup Wesley to help publicize the huge giveaway last xmas, put it up on the STO site and everything.
And as for events she ran... we've had two different 'vote for the next starship' things now.
I think what I liked best about trendy is that she clearly took her job seriously, and worked really hard to deliver high quality.
But that's not what I said, or rather, certainly not what I was meaning... Branflakes never gave away anything for the literary challenges... Those are the kind of competitions and community events I was meaning, not necesarily ones with prizes/rewards attached...
Okay, I'll take 'vote on a starship' as coming under the guise of 'community event' (Personally, I think it's more like using the community as an unpaid focus group, but then again, there was that nice little redeemable reward code a few weeks back, so I guess 'unpaid' is a little uncharitable)

Branflakes? Are you sure? The story I heard (can't remember the source) was that his dying grandmother asked him to relocate closer to her, so he quit and moved.
Not his leaving, his getting booted up from STO to all PWE games.

Cryptic hasn't had an all that open communication history since dstahl left, I think.
But currently it's just a bit too silent - and it doesn't appear to me as if the forums are in a particularly bad state or anything. They are a bit boring, almost.
And I really would expect a bit more details on the schedule on something like the console update, for example. Cryptic doesn't inform you much ahead, but we know from the blogs something is coming to the consoles, and on the PC side I think we would by now know when exactly, and if there was a delay, we'd know that, too. But there hasn't been any communication on that.
The blogs we did have seemed to have problems with the release schedule (like a blog being up a month or so on the German site before it was on the US site) or simply being in error (like the Sovereign release.)
Beyond that, I think we're currently in a release lump for STO. The Sovereign is the first ship in months to hit the C-Store, for example. I figure on the content side that might be related to AOY and getting the console up to speed compared to the PC, but I still would have hoped some more info.
On the content side, there isn't really much that a community manager can do, but it means it's particularly "slow" and any issues that come up with be felt much stronger.
I love the AOY content (much more than I expected), but I think for me 2015 is still the ideal model for how a Star Trek Online year could go - monthly new missions, regular story blogs, regular C-Store (cross-faction) ship releases.

Yep, I bet the entire staff goes out on a limb a bit over the console releases. That’s all.
I could imagine that STO is/will be similar successful on those platforms and everybody involved with the game needs to adjust or perhaps get some more man power if their turnover justifies it.
We just should exercises ourselves in patience a bit. It’s not as if the supply of new stuff would dry up. We just don’t get it delivered a silver platter for the time being. No need to over-interpret.
That’s my take on it.

Tbh, as long as the in-game calendar is kept updated a month in advance, I could do without all the Story Blogs.
In fact I don't even think I've ever read one of the story blogs.
Might of skimmed through one of them once...
Was not riveting reading or need to know stuff imo. Kind of a waste of the writers time !
Keep the in-game calendar up to date, and ship press releases. And I'm good. I need nothing more from a community manager to be honest.
Isn't Taco an unofficial CM ?
I know he does environment art full time. But he hop's on the forums quite a bit, and shares a lot of behind the scenes information.
I like when he talks shop. I feel like it is the most revealing as to PWE's inner workings and limitations.
I mean, again I had no problem with Trendy, she had her moments, my favorite being playable Hortas - and swooping in to save the day for random forumites having account problems...many times she would say "I'm super busy, but I'm going to take 5-10 mins and go down to (insert dept) and find out what is going on and see what I can do."
So, it should be noted that she did put in a lot of "extra work" for people who were in trouble with their account.
But what I won't miss is the drama that would follow in her wake by her schoolboy followers. It was very high school-ish, and quite unpalatable. Also, I never felt she "really knew" the technical details behind changes or updates/patch's, and in that regard she was pretty useless. Mind you...I guess she wasn't a programmer so just didn't know how things worked.
Maybe that's why I would get a lot more out of Taco's posts. They actually explain the technical in pretty basic terms.
I mean if there "must" be a CM, would be nice if they understood more about the in's and out's of the operation. So when a question gets posed, it can be answered at least in a basic fashion.
If you want to know my conspiracy theory;
I think her "move" might've stemmed from the Gold Dakora incident.
She might've been a little "too player friendly" in that case, saying she was going to get some answers... When in reality, PWE probably didn't want to say "ANYTHING AT ALL", and let it all blow over....
So her actions might've forced someone's hand into releasing (begrudgingly) a very lawyerly statement on the winning criteria.
Think she stepped on some toes there imho. Because after that, we didn't hear much from Trendy.
So its possible and quite ironic, that in the end, her schoolboy followers were actually the Arbiters of her removal.
One of the ships in quinny's office should be named USS TRENDY as a gesture of appreciation..One of the best mod's I've seen for an MMO..Awesome for the promotion..
And yeah corporate ********...They see good work being done and reassign you..Went thru this t5oo many times in my carrer..

actually she was promoted BEFORE the Gold D'Kora thing, and she was training her replacement. (per the interview) when that went down.
You sure about that ?
I wouldn't know. I'm not that interested in keeping up to date on the changing hierarchy of Cryptic/PWE. And when/what happens within.
Who's got time for that ??
Anyway, still think her biggest followers played a role in her being moved.

I do miss the community content contests; I think trendy has done a decent job helping clean up the forums, but the ULCs just don't see the kind of traffic the official did.

Something else that Trendy did, which I haven't seen mentioned, was talk to the folks @ Cryptic/PWI about issues that we have. It wasn't constant, but the occasional, "I'm looking into issue X" post was nice.
FYI I got promoted earlier this year. I've been a bit quiet because I've been managing multiple titles (which is why you've seen folks like Amanda posting maintenances for the most part, or patch notes). I'll be making a bigger and clearer declaration of everything. I've been planning a -good- for some time.
