I can't believe any of you actually trusted them to do this right. You know they are terrible at developing this game. They are bad developers, have they ever shown you that they know what they are doing?

Seriously, me and everyone I know removed their kits and kits modules before the patch, pretty much everyone in the entire armada did.

The only issue here, that I can see, is that you actually trusted the STO developers to do this right.

There are an infinite amount of bugs, a list so long in small print that it would probably be taller than you are if written down on a long piece of paper and help up for comparison, still unresolved and will likely continue to be unresolved. I mean, it takes them years just to change reference ID numbers. They just now fixed the LOD texture on the Kar'fi after more than a year of it being busted. And yet, you trusted them to get this right? That is on you.

Blaming the developers of this game for being bad is like blaming a wolf for killing a chicken. It is what they do, it is nature. And it is Cryptic's nature to TRIBBLE up, a lot.

Most people, including myself, overlook much of what is wrong with this game because we are fans of the Star Trek genre in general.

In fact, hicks, DOOOM!/"I Quit" threads are listed as topics of FCT (Frequently Closed Threads), and repeated opening of them can be considered a violation of ToS.

I only had to change the instance I was in once to cause my kit and modules to reappear. I don't understand why people are still kvetching about this two days later. It's not rocket surgery.

And if you're using a bare unmodified frame - why?? Good kits aren't (or at least weren't) that expensive on the Exchange, because they drop as rewards so very often as you play through the game.

The previous version all got swapped out for the new stuff... but Cryptic didnt do jack but make the OLDEST kit frames vendor trash.

They weren't anything but vendor trash anyway, they just added a small amount of value to this already, trash. Whats the big deal then? I mean, they gave more value to an item that was as useless as they come. OP and others like him should be happy then.

Bla bla bla bla. It's all dribble from 90% of you people. As for 12 extra slot's it's good if you needed them and didn't have them already so for most of us it wasn't anything at all. Like i said please reply with descent replies otherwise waste your time on something else.

Well I do think that such work arounds should be communicated more clearly.

I also logged in on several characters to find that all of my kits had disappeared. Luckily I also quickly saw the messages from other people that you just needed to switch maps a few times and it worked.

Then again, even if one hadn't seen those messages it should still be clear by now. As for the older kits: those were outdated anyway. Not useless, but also not really worth it to get angry. They're a nice reminder of older times at best :p

Come on now you people are stupid. Horizons hit the nail on the head. 90% of you have been assimilated and you reply just for the sake of replying and don't really know what you are on about. I also leave this thread because i care about STO and it's members and that even includes the fools who don't even know what they are on about. We have been screwed to many times to mention and if any of you spent even 5 mins with me you would realise why i am getting fed up with Cryptic and the way they have screwed us on to many times to mention. As for leaving i have never once said i was going to leave i said about all the great players who have left and trust me there is to many to mention yet again. Infact ask Jodarkrider as she knows what i am on about. So please don't leave blind fan boy remarks and leave replies that will make Cryptic stand up and realise that they are TRIBBLE the one thing that has kept this game going for as long as it has and that is us players who love and care about STO.

They just did such a thing. Check the News Network section and look for the promo code announcement.

Things didn't work properly, they corrected it. Yes, they make mistakes at times but I wouldn't say that they screwed up anything, at least not permanently ;)

Except maybe for releasing the TR rifle but that's an entirely different story :)

I should still have some of those older kits in my mail, possibly even the Borg analyser thing or what's it called?

Nice souvenirs from the past, but that's about it. Never really used them anyway as the Spire modules and the Research lab kit frames with Vascular regenerator for all careers are so much better.

Anyway, I'll go check on them as soon as the server is back up.

Edit: oh wow. It's up. Never realised that I had these powers :o

I just checked, and it seems that the older kits from before the first revamp (where we still had full kits and kit modules didn't exist yet) have been emptied so to say. They have no powers anymore and they're just empty frames now.

    Generally speaking:

IIRC, they were the equivalent of MK X purple quality powers. So while it is definitely a loss, it's not a big one and, again, they were outdated anyway as you can get much better quality gear now.

They were good when I got them back in 2012, and were OK as placeholders when I used them coming back to the game in 2014. Once I had decent account-bound modules to share between alts they became semi-useless.

If kit modules are now upgradeable (I haven't tried yet) they're now completely outclassed.

Yeah, kit modules can now be upgraded and the kit frames too. I am able to drag them into the upgrade window and apply ground upgrade kits. I have not actually upgraded them yet, but others have already done so. So I take that as a confirmation.

I suppose I am a cheap b@star@d, so I will wait until Double Tech Point Upgrade Weekend rolls around before I start upgrading. :)

I think they are outclassed indeed. But, to be honest, the very old kits were still useful if you wanted a cheap yet decent kit.

But yeah, definitely outclassed by now and in fact it has been for a while.

I'm pretty sure that there was some warning. People have talked in game about old kits going away with this update for the last couple of weeks. As for compensation? Well, you can now upgrade a kit and modules that will blow away your old non-modular setup.

Quick question. Is the unnatural fascination with old kits just nostalgia? Because lots of new modules and specialization modules have come out that wipe the floor with the old kits.

The ORIGINAL ground fits that had no modules attached (IE the kits that ALL characters used until they separated modules from Kits and then made Kits actually slot modules) - which BTW Cryptic back then said we could CONTINUE using with no penalty; where 100% made useless with this update - and can be vendored to NPCs for about 20K EC and that's it.

Look - I realize that Crytic wants to get rid of old/outdated items; but they could have done better than just say "Hey, sorry for making your original characters that you've had for 6+ years virtually useless in ground combat - even though earlier we said the kits could still be used."

They could have replaced them with a MKX kit and modules that made them equivalent to what they were under the original system; but no, probably too much work after wasting time doing a 'Lighting 2.0' update that makes 95% of the existing ground maps look like a$$. <-- yep, that was time well spent. At least this time (unlike the equally terrible 'film gran' effect on all the 23c maps) they gave players the option to disable it.

What's 'funny' is that OP has not once actually stated outright what exactly he's moaning about. "Cryptic has ****ed us". "Our kits are gone, and made useless". The ONLY thing he was clear about, was fleet project commodities being wiped from incomplete projects, which BTW mr Hicks was in fact very clearly communicated, had you actually bothered to read updates.
As for the kits, people have speculated that he meant the old non-modular kits. I haven't seen him state, or confirm this. All he does is whine "Oh, my kits. Woe is me.", then accuse anyone who dares correct him of fan-boying.
The very fact that he felt the need to mention how long he's been playing, and how many accolade points he has gathered, etc, etc... All it does is say "Look at how important I am, you MUST take heed of my whinging."
    Yeah... No.
