I actually like the whales. They have staying power and are not too squishy. The bad turn rates can be compensated for quite easily so they have an acceptable turn rate (at least for me). My least-favorite ship to fly are the raiders/escorts. I like destroyers, sci, cruisers and carriers better than escort/raiders.
But that's the beauty of STO, a ship type for everyone.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
I hate ships with badly optimized kitbashing options - when the parts clip into each other in an unsightly way, or when an untextured part is exposed (so that at you can suddenly see through it as if it wasn't there), or when only a certain combinations of parts make sense, but are ugly af.
Gotta be Cruisers in general. The turn rates for the ones I've seen so far are horrid. Maybe it's just playstyle induced hate but I switched to a Science Vessel at my first opportunity and never looked back.
That award has got to go to the Yeager class. I can see how the board room meeting on this one went:
Exec 1: "We need a new background ship!"
Exec 2: "Hm... we used the Miranda and Excelsior enough, let's kitbash something using different models than those!"
Exec 3: "Oh I know, how about we kitbash the Intrepid with the Maquis Raider? It's like we fused the two main ships of Voyager's pilot episode! No one will notice!"
Everyone in unison: "MAKE IT SO!"

@smokebailey not a fan of that ship myself. The warp nacelles are too thick. They look as thick as the drive section. The engine pylons are not right either. The incline is too steep.
Neck is to far back too.
Also the Chimera Heavy Destroyer. Got a serious beer gut going there...

The image is misleading.
There is no Yaeger-class, it was a one-off scrambled ship with no others like it. The DS9 TM hints that all those ships scrambled during the Dominion War were later refitted to fit their original class, so the Yeager would later most likely be converted to a Intrepid-class vessel. Also, the "Scout" classification and armament are simply made up. At least the artist kept the Type-VIII phasers, which are shuttle mountable weapons
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^

"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou

Apparently you confuse the Yeager-class with the Norway-class. The Yeager was a physical model used in the Shooting of a few episodes... while the Norway existed solely in the CGI for STFC, and was just "accidentally" deleted afterwards...
Hmm. The Enterprise J is definately a very ugly ship. Too flat and the nacelles look more like antennae that could be easily snapped off.
I have to admit though I've never been a fan, overall, of Starfleet ship designs. Too many sticky-outy bits like the nacelles mounted on thin and often silly-looking rods. The Defiant is the exception to that rule and aesthetically it and the Phantom are the best looking ships in the whole franchise as far as I'm concerned. I'm also a fan of the TNG-Era Galaxy Class and Intrepid (Voyager) class because at least the nacelles are mounted on solid, meaty parts of the hull. The trend continues with any Starfleet ship that has secure-looking nacelles. Hence a lot of the cruisers I like.
Gameplay-wise I tend to like the staying power of cruisers and science ships. I'm also a fan of the Scryer, since as a scientist in real life I find the idea of a ring of totally seperate, totally contained laboratories isolated from the bridge and crew quarters in the main body of the ship quite a practical design as far as crew safety goes.
But getting back to the topic of the thread, I really hate the impracticality of the D'Deridex. A whopping great hole in the middle of the ships is just...... ugly. Rediculous. I strongly dislike carriers in terms of gameplay because of the awful fragility of the pets. Voth ships look really ungainly and unpractical. The Herald ships seem to be disjointed with several parts not seemingly attached to each other. I'm not a fan of the Schimitar either, nor the Nerada. They just seem to lack the smooth grace of normal Warbirds. And as I've mentioned pretty much any Starfleet ships with nacelles that don't look very firmly attached.
Hmm. The Enterprise J is definately a very ugly ship. Too flat and the nacelles look more like antennae that could be easily snapped off.
Why is everybody incapable of grasping scale? No part of it is 'thin' or 'flat'. It's 3.2 bloody Km in size. It's pylons are about as thick as the Galaxy Class' neck section. It's nacelles are about as thick as the entire engineering section of the Galaxy.

Plus an advanced species making a ship could make a ship that looks fragile, but would be incredibly strong.
Like Doug Drexler said, we gotta cast aside the 'ape brain'.
Personally, I am not a fan of the big blue ball/nipple science vessel. For the level, it's a good ship, just uglier than sin, almost like it's a giant insect. I also dislike how most endgame ships are excessively oversized, like the Rom sci bird. Stupidly huge.
TOS Connie is ugly, but it's supposed to look like that. It looks old, dingy, and beat up, but then the Enterprise of that Era was beat up pretty often. The JJ Connie looks like the engines would shear off at the pylons. Reminds me of those ridiculous people that put $6000 rims on a $500 dollar rust bucket. The Vengeance is supposed to look intimidating, but to me they just seem like the fat kid who tells people he has "numchuck skills, but I can't show you because my mom took them away". It's a decent ship, just seems to be over compensating.
On the other hand, I love the design of the Avenger. The thick armor plating look, the bridge nestled between raised hull plate sections, the way the nacells are nearly perfectly behind the saucer. It'd a well designed ship in my eyes.
My fed Science captain is currently flying tier3 Science ship and it's ugly. It looks like one of those big-ball-roll-on deodorant sticks with nacelles/pylons stuck to it. Flys like one too. The previous (T2) sci-ship handled much better.
haters of the TOS constitution, to paraphrase a certain quote from bill shatner's roast (insert george takai's voice here) 'f.u. and the (dead)horse you rode in on' !!!!
Word. I wasn't going to comment on this thread but figured you needed moral support. And yeah even though I'm an old TRIBBLE I like jjprise too. The "it looks old" objection is absurd to me. Model T's and A's "look old" and I think they are awesome as well.
Designs that I dislike? many of the older fed cruisers. They look ponderous and blocky. Odyssey is one such, Galaxy Dreadnought, that silly thing that looks like a pizza cutter (I named mine pizza cutter), etc.
EDIT: really, a word for smelly gas emissions from our bottoms is starred out? Fun times.

That's why I said "'Look' more like antennae that could be easily snapped off." To me both in one of the new STFs ingame and the pictures here, the Enterprise J just looks like the nacelles could be snapped off. There isn't really anything much in the images for me to compare sizes and get a sense of scale. I know nothing of the Ent-J except those images I've seen actually. The impression I get is one of ugly fragility.
I didn't say anything at all about how its constructed, the physical size of the ship or how advanced the technology and design is. Just that from a couple of images, the ship looks flat, fragile and ugly.
My fed Science captain is currently flying tier3 Science ship and it's ugly. It looks like one of those big-ball-roll-on deodorant sticks with nacelles/pylons stuck to it. Flys like one too. The previous (T2) sci-ship handled much better.
That is the Oberth. And conversely, I like it. But then again, ugly appeals to me on occasion. Most ships people are calling ugly, I fly. Looks aren't that important to me, performance is. I don't care for the fast, turn-on-a-dime raiders/escorts, but I do fly them on occasion. I do like destroyers and I really like the DSD, despite what others have said about it.
