With so many players unable to do promotions missions your worried about holodeck stuff? I cant even get the turbolift on my ships to function. And I thought World of Tanks by Wargaming was bad..............
7 Hours on a wednesday is a bit extreme especially if they are also going to be doing the usual Thursday patch? Also why the hell have they chosen to do it where it screws the UK players!!! Surely they could of picked a time when there are less players on and where it isn't going to affect nearly a whole day of UK time. They could of at least started earlier on PMT like 2-3am and then it wouldnt of affected many players at all but starting at 1pm in the afternoon GMT till 8pm is just plain stupid when they could of done 10am GMT (2am PMT) to 5pm GMT (9am PMT) where it would of made much more sence to both east and west coast of the US and the whole of europe. Or was it done to keep the Asia market happy and the rest can just suffer? I think they really need to look at this again for the next time they do a stupid 7 hour fix!!!

The downtime is for Arc maintenance. If the engineers said it was going to take 7 hours, then it's going to take 7 hours. There were probably several people up the corporate ladder who were not very fond of the idea of having 7 hours of downtime across all platforms, given the amount of revenue they'd lose. Those people probably even asked the engineers if it would really take that long, and if they could reduce the downtime. So, I'll give PWE a fair shake and say that 7 hours was probably the best they could do for whatever maintenance needed to be done, if PWE is like any other company and has people up at the top who could not possibly do the technical jobs of the people down at the bottom.
Why today and not tomorrow? Because Arc isn't STO. They don't synchronize Arc maintenance with STO. This is when it was decided by the people who run Arc, and STO didn't get a vote. That means business as usual, which means tomorrow there's a patch for STO.
As for TRIBBLE the UK players? Sorry. It's like this for pretty much every MMO. They pick this time zone because the games typically have the lowest populations during this time, and people in California are just now coming in to work. This has been in the FCT, and will likely continue to remain true until people in your timezone play STO and other online video games to such an extent that they manage to outspend and outplay people in North America, where the company then prioritizes the UK timezone because it's more financially relevant.
I don't see that happening though, so like the rest of us, just be a little annoyed and irritated, but be patient. There is a method to all this madness, but there's nothing we can do about it.

Just because Arc is doing some maintinence it doesn't mean STO had to go down for 7 hours as well? We do remember a time when we didn't need a 3rd party to play STO. Do you? Perfect world only did the same as they need to due to the state of the game!!! Also saying the UK doesn't matter is just total rubbish and you must live on Risa and are on the Romulan Ale as you are in a dream world mate!!! Doing it on the time i suggested makes sence especially if the big wigs didn't want to loose money like you said. There hasn't been many occasions over the last 6 years where STO has had to go down due to one reason or another but taking 7 hours due to Arc maintinence just shows many of us that they needed to but to add tomorrow as well when they could of done it all today shows they are under pressure with all the bugs and issues shown of late. If all was well we could of seen no offline servers at all today and just had the usual tomorrow but it looks like it isn't a Perfect World on the STO Front and so they were glad to use the Arc time to do there own patching and updating as well as tomorrows!!! The other reason why players are fed up with today is because there is no real mention of any work being done if you read the patch notes so if they needed today they should of listed the real reasons why and not cover up there mistakes by using the Arc maintinence to bring STO down for 7 hours. So i do appreciate your reply iconians but please make sense next time or just leave it as a private thought or PM!!! This is why we all got fed up when they said Arc was the only way to play STO in the future as we knew STO would get days like this when it doesnt need to so i just hope that after today and then tomorrows down time they make sure they get things done otherwise they will get more unhappy players!!!

So hey, ever heard of this thing called paragraphs? As for the UK thing, I guess you thought everyone would just alter their normal work day to accommodate people living on the other side of the planet?
Except the launcher says 12:00 to 17:00 UTC that's 5 hours not seven, so here in the UK we wont get on til 8pm??? You don't need anyone doing a DDOS attack you're doing it yourselves.
We will be performing shard maintenance on October 19 from 5 AM-12 PM Pacific (12:00-17:00 UTC). Please check the forums.
If you look at it, the pacific listing is 7 hours, the bracketed uct listing is 5 hours. They messed up the conversion to uct time.
That got me too, am a uk player myself, got home from work earlier read only the bracketed uct as usual. Thought well at least i get a couple of hours to play and no maintinance tomorrow since it's a day early. SO at the uct marked uptime nothing, i came here read it was seven hours so i went to the launcher and read the whole thing. It should have said 12:00-19:00 UCT

I paid no attention to the pacific time and just saw 12:00 - 17:00 UTC which is fixed by 18:00 here.
Partly my fault for not paying attention to time zones that mean nothing to me. But someone should really do something about telling me it'll be finished by the time I get home from work. lol.
Oh well, only another 75 ish minutes.....
As a uk player its a bit upsetting that a good portion of playtime is cancelled, 7 hours is fairly extreme and when it over runs ill probably lose the whole night which is annoying
