~Can you lose a doff on a doffing assignment if it fails?

I just had a doffing assignment return to me as a fail and two of the doffs were highlighted red. I usually see that when I have prisoners or colonists not return to me. One of them was a R&D specialist and another a holographic one. They are not in sick bay nor show up in my roster.
I have never heard of losing doffs permanently upon a fail. I am a little perturbed because it was a R&D crafting doff not just some c rappy common disposable. I'd be livid if it was a purple doff. What are the rules about this?

I believe you can only lose common (white) doffs on assignments. (I'm not 100% positive about it, but I have never lost anything of higher quality than that, they just end up in sickbay lol.)

Was it on a Klingon Character? Just wondering.
The Rising of the Delta is the best expansion ever, and people love it to death because it is a good day to die in the endless struggle for supremacy of your own conviction. (A spin off of the Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and all the players love it.)

Only common (white) Doffs can die from mission failures as far as I am aware. Uncommon and better quality Doffs are only injured.

The only time when I read of a "good" quality Doff actually dying was probably back in 2014 when someone stated his rare photonic Doff died after a failed maintenance Doff mission. I think he said it was for turbolift maintenance. I am pretty sure that was a bug.

Green and better will go to sick bay for disaster in normal missions.

I think there are some exchange missions (the embassy chains in Alpha quadrant?) that might let you select a regular officer to be "stationed" at the embassy forever.

KDF has the changeling spy, execute for incompetence and seppuku suicide missions.

2 things: did you see them in red in the list of assignments or the assignment itself? Because the list of assignments is broken, showing the wrong Doffs.

If not, did you make sure the mission wasn't a mission that stated you'd lose the Doffs? Normally, most of these missions don't automatically put Doffs in the slots but a few actually do.

For a long time the holodeck hamlet performance was bugged and could kill any quality of doff. Given it needs 18 doffs, the potential carnage is spectacular.

Anyone know if it can still massacre purples?

IIRC if you are playing on Elite as standard, Doff's do die.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

TOS faction, playing on normal mode, the mission was one of the jem'hadar chain assignments number 6 or 7 i believe, saw them red in the list of completed assignments, and i wasnt told i would be losing doffs up front.

No. I used all purples and some UR doffs and got disaster numerous times. Fortunately they didn't die.

I think it matters what the danger level of the mission is... if it's 'extreme' and you have any chance of mission failure, there is a chance you'll lose a doff.

Difficulty level doesn't impact doff missions.

Only common quality(white) doffs can die on a mission. Green and higher only get injured and go to sickbay. The mission danger lvl listed in the mission discription as none-extreme gives idea of chance of doff dying(if white) or being injured. The only time a green or higher quality doff is lost, assuming no bugs, is if the mission has red text in the description saying the doff will be lost. The klingon missions execute changeling spy and execute mutineers and fed mission escort changeling spy to prison are 3 such mission where the doffs will be lost regardless of quality. There are also some mission in the alpha quad that consume doffs regardless of color like the officer exchange and the civilian labor for embassy so pay attention to any red text in mission

Green or better will only go to sick bay. Whites will take a dirt nap on disaster.

Even on failure, they can die:

They did fix it so that the system did not automatically assign Doffs to Missions where they would be lost.

That being said, the last two days was the first times I ever ran those Karemma Labor Recruitment Missions. When I first called up the Mission it was PRE-FILLED with VR Civilian Doffs. I switched them to KDF Prisoners, which is what I am trying to get rid of by the boatloads.

Needless to say I was not pleased.

I don't care what anyone says, IMHO, the idea of "The Red Wedding" came from a Blackadder fan. :p

I've found that a Fizzbin game can be quite fatal, along with turbolift maintenance. Of course, I've also critted a Uushan match with a Horta miner.

They can also die on a success (dunno for certain whether on a crit, too, but I wouldn't rule it out), especially on the higher danger levels. But yeah, it is kind of a bummer that those R&D doffs on AoY toons are commons.

Also, I had a doctor die on a common healing mission (the "fractured arm" type).
For now i lost several higher then common doffs on:
    (snip)

These doffing assignments do give a warning in the description that this will happen though ("officers assigned to this will be lost permanently" in red)
