Shuttles themselves aren't bad. Just the missions with them are terrible. About the only one I enjoy is the one Klingon-side where you fly the stolen runabout. The Romulan one has a good premise, but just a really bad execution.

@coldnapalm I hate that dyson ship, bane of my STO existence.

I love escorts my 2 favorites are phantom and the Hestia, I have a problem with cruisers especially with slow turn rate, its like being stuck in a Gravwell. Same reason i hate the scimi, that and its an ugly ship.

I feel like I still don't have a solid grasp on the 'science death magic rotation'. I mostly understand torp boats now, but I still can't wave a magic wand and watch everything die.

Whoever built the loadout on the DSD for that mission had no idea what they were doing. The sheer amount of terribad is matched only by the Vaadwaur escort you have to fly in the Delta mission.

The Sheshar is a pain in the butt to fly because it gets stuck in objects.

    Shuttles? Load omni beams.

Honestly... this is sound advice. I once tried dual cannons, but the shuttle's just too zippy for them. Give me an Omni and I will blow up the world. Also... I will blast Star Fox music while I do it.

I honestly... have a problem flying my Tarantula. I'm used to smaller ships like the Guardian, Kelvin Connie, and Sovereign. The Tarantula is so big... I sometimes have problems knowing how far something is from me even with the range in my face because I gotta zoom out to see, and I can get stuck in structures because of her length. My spatial awareness is not as good with the Tarantula as it is with other ships.

Intrepid for me. Although a parser may say i'm doing just as much DPS as when flying a Nebula/Nova/Nautilus or other Sci ship for some reason the Intrepid always feels to me like i've got to work harder for those numbers. Using it feels like a struggle, a underwhelming ship to fly.

Oh, the Klink one... could be nice, just too many Starfleet ships around, can easily get annoying.

But agreed, it has nothing on the Rom "Ground" shuttle mission. One of the nicest maps in game. Gives you a not too bad - but also not too good - mission. And four AI companions who will do nothing but blow up which basically means you are alone and will do nothing but blow up. It would and could be really nice otherwise.

I didn't really mean PILOTING as much as just making it work. I get in a tard, and before I get a cooldown on a TS3 I'm floating debris. anything else I'm fine unless I'm distracted

The Fleet T5-U Orion Corsair Flight Deck Cruiser. I honestly have no idea wtf to do with that ship.

It lacks the tactical consoles (and only a Lt. Tac seat) to make it a DPS powerhouse, it only has 1 hangar bay for fighters, it is extremely sci-heavy, but lacks a Commander Sci to use the most powerful sci abilities, but it does come with a Commander and Lt. Eng which means I can make it pretty tanky. I can't really use an Aux2Bat build on it since having all those science abilities at my disposal but no Aux power to feed them would be a bad idea.

I'm sure some people have been able to make something awesome with the Corsair, but I've never quite been able to make it work.

Oh, and it has obvious cannon hardpoints on the front of the ship despite not being able to use dual cannons, which just glares at me unless I want to use dual beam banks. But with only 2 tac consoles and a Lt. Tac bridge officer seat, I'm not really getting the best bang for my buck by loading it with dual beam banks.

I still use it on one of my KDF alts, and I try to make it work the best I can, but I have no problems admitting that the rest of my team ends up carrying me 90% of the time, since I can't seem to make it work to my very high standards of performance.

I have a grand old time in almost any class of ship, but I just cannot be effective in a KDF BoP. I can manage to not die well enough, but BoP ought to be a seriously heavy hitter. And somehow I cannot coax "heavy hitter" out of her however I try.

I think the corsair could be a decent drain boat, letting the fighters do the damage

For me I generally fly Science ships or Escorts. Haven't tried Cruisers yet. My slowest ship is the Flambard even when equipped with a console that increases turn rate with like 35% or so. It's still slow as hell and turns like a 200 ton boulder glued to the ground.

Biggest problem I have is lining up my ship. So I'm really terrible when trying to use cannons. I'll stick to beams and torpedoes.
My favourite ship is my Jhu'ael Tactical Carrier Warbird. It's quick, it turns very nicely and has lots of firepower. Can take quite a beating as well. My Romulan is one very happy Science Captain in her Warbird.

For some reason, my Ar'kif and Excelsiors rarely fare well in combat. They fall apart in a hurry and do remarkably little damage for their gear quality (which is saying a lot, since my damage output is always fairly low and drops my expectations accordingly).

My two Valiants hold up pretty nicely (tough little ships, indeed), JHDC (alas, only T5U) and Galor hold their own, Eternal is still incomplete, Chronos steamrolls through stuff with its nigh-indestructibility and temporal sorcery, Malem and Kor do pretty fine, and so forth. Just not the Ar'kif and the Excelsiors.

The only ships I do "badly" with are stuff like the DSD, Manasa, and Ambassador that you get stuck with in missions that have loudouts that you can't change. At least you don't get thrown into combat immediately and have time to configure the power tray, but all the power tray management in the world doesn't help bad loudouts.

DSD is the worst of the lot. Manasa and Ambassador are on par with my typical ships - the DSD manages to go under my build quality despite having the full Dyson set.

If you have no passion for a ship it is difficult to make it work. I really rip through the game in my T6 Constitution class.

Having said that, the one ship I have been most sad about is the Ambassador class. I LOVE that ship and want to be able to make it my home but I just can not get the phasers hot enough... yet. There's all kinds of console configurations and epic level weaponry I have yet to try... But she's just too sluggish and blows up fast.
The same with the Galaxy class.... I always want to make that my secondary main ship and yet she just doesn't ever seem to have the power.

    Those are my two disappointments.

As far as flying: Atrox. Huge beast, TRIBBLE turn and speed, fight's over by the time I even get my fighters in range to target, much less get in weapons range. Good thing it's an older ship, no longer viable (if it ever was), and thankfully not updated, so not a problem anymore.

Footnote: Nebula ran a real close second on flying brick status.

It's not about size either. My main ship on my main character is the Odyssey and it's a big one too, but I can turn, spin, powerslide, drift, like it's a ship half its size and mass (without the chevron separation). Put the same equipment on a Nebula or Atrox and it's like going from a Cessna to a C-5.

As far as survivability: Chimera/Manticore. Glass cannon no matter how hard I try. Every fight is just a DPS race to BOOM. Funny that I could make the T5 & T6 Rom and KDF Veteran ships work, but not the Fed. Pretty good firepower though...just a hull like a paper airplane.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I fly everything like a pro.
      I'm that good.

      Nah jk...
You know, I really wanted the Paradox when it was released, like really bad.
I eventually got one, and its not that "I can't fly it well" its the fact that the damn ship takes up like 1/2 the screen even when the camera is fully zoomed out.

I flew it for about an hour and half...just enough to get the trait out of it and shelved it.
      Man, what a disappointment.
I mean, its an amazing Sci/Carrier generally...but its just too HUGE and turns like a sloth in slow motion.

Actually had a rethinking of this and have to say, I don't fly the Tholian Tarantula particuarly well.

I was fortunate enough to win the using one of five lockbox keys I purchased off the exchange - considered holding onto the keys but thought 'nah, only five - might as well see if opening five boxes drops anything worthwhile. Box #4 dropped the ship.

I probably should have sold it - large ships are not really my forte, but between the excitement of having won it, and the fact that I own the Recluse (i.e two parts of the console set), I went ahead and opened it.
Sadly I am not terribly good at using it. It's a great ship and hits pretty hard - and the Web Cannon is fantastic*, but I do struggle to keep the shields up and being more used to smaller, more nimble, ships I do find her lack of speed and turn-rate difficult to overcome.

*When get the chance to use it.

I can only imagine, and I thought the Paradox was a cow.

Rezreth is a brick. I'm currently running one on my Fed Sci to get the trait (just because I don't have anything better to do) and man that thing is worse than the Sarr Theln he usually flies.

      Ah interesting thread, OP.

I'm pretty bad in a Schimitar, Mat'ha or a Faeht or similarly thin-hulled ships. I mean I can fly Escorts generally pretty well, but those with the ultra-thin tin foil hulls I just can't handle. I also have a difficult time with carriers because I can never seem to keep the pets alive to perform any lasting usable function.

Shuttles are a bit hit and miss with me. I usually fly the Delta Flyer or the Captain's Yaht equivalents for non-Starfleet toons with an omni beam. Generally I'm okay at the few shuttle missions in the game, being best in the Vault mission. That being said I don't do well with the shuttle race courses unless I'm really on the ball that day and have had a fresh infusion of coffee. ;)

I'm at my best in sci ships though like the Scryer or Nautilus as they seem to have the perfect blend of hull, shields, turn rate, weapon power and bridge officer skills. However I'm very almost as deadly in a cruiser especially if its a sci-oriented cruiser. I'm at least competent in the heavier kinds of Escort.

      Elachi S' golth escort.
I can make almost any shio work (for me at least), but that thing... I dont know, we do not get allong.
That and the romulan tac command warbird, I just really didnt like it at all, maybe its the pointy shapes I can't work with or something but those two ships crews see me coming and immediately call their loved ones....
