    My suggestion for the Lukari:
    Exploratory Science Dreadnought [T6]
    Secondary Deflector slot (Exploration!)
    Sensor Analysis (more exploration!)
+10 Aux, +10 Weapon power (compromise!)
5 Fore weapons, 2 aft (Even more compromise, the people that want 5 weapons get the front part, and the ones that want 2 get the rear part. Perfect!)
    Console layout:
5 Science (You gotta have lots of those for 'exploration'!)
4 Tactical (It's dangerous out there!)
    2 Engineering (Left overs.)
What? I didn't say anything about suggesting this be the Winter Event ship or other giveaway...
    Bridge Officers:
Commander Science (Exploration!), Lt. Comm Universal/Temporal (don't know what you're getting into, it might even be time travel!), Lt. Comm Tac (Go boldly, and carry a big stick!) , Lt. Comm Eng (need to keep the ship together and/or enhancing your weapon power)
    Shields: thick
    Hull: decent
Turnrate: at least 8 (these three will be needed to be balanced somewhat, I don't feel like back-figuring from current T6s)

    Science ships have 3 aft.

This is a Science Dreadnought, they can have other than 3 aft. Besides, where's the compromise with the people that wanted two weapons, then?

Want to give them battle cloaking and cannon options while you're at it? Maybe a rewind mastery trait, that refreshes your cooldowns, gives you a hull and shield heal, and has a jump built in? Let's just mash too much good stuff into a ship for a race that's only just barely peeking out its own atmosphere. First step to Mary Sue status there....

I didn't include Battle Cloak only because it's the Feds that are designing the ship, and they find cloaks icky. That Starship Trait sounds redundant with the Temporal Spec having that already. As for 'good stuff' this early on, I doubt the Federation would design something sub-par for them, knowing what dangers are out there.

As for Mary Sue status, bah, you're a Fleet Admiral less than two years after your Academy graduation, and savior of the galaxy multiple times over*.

I liked it. A timely piece that echoes the history of Star Trek by way of the Lukari. This was a wonderful gift for the 50th. Thanks for sharing.

Nice to that the Lukari are being revisited after First Contact...

Could this be a hint that a Lukari vessel may be on the way? Perhaps as a First Contact Day prize?

I enjoyed the story very much, kudos to the author. The Lukari are my favorite STO species.

As for what ship they should build, they can have their cake and eat it too. All they need to do is make a regular sci ship with a secondary deflector. That can cause more than enough death and destruction to satisfy the war minded Lukari while supplying the best in exploration technology. Who needs warships when you have a good science ship.

yes, for in-game practical purposes...but for the story purposes/feel, I got the sense of a battleship of some sort, with 'armed' being in the traditional/tac sense. That said, I do run a 100k+ sci vessel as a fed eng, so I know what they can do

I'm hoping for something a sleek, with a nice neutral color. :D Like maybe something along the lines of the Hazari ship.

    Just my opinion.

If this were logical, the Lukari ship will end up being a Tier 1 Light Cruiser. Slightly less logical, Tier 2 or 3. Ludicrous would be Tier 5 or 6 for a species just emerging from their home planet, let alone their home system.

I'd love for the Lukari ship to be a smallish ship, comparable to the NX-01 but with better technology so it can stand its ground in 2409. Something with characteristics of both a science vessel and an escort.

I really like the Lukari; hope we see more of them outside the blogs.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Reading something only remotely related to wars is a welcome change of pace for me. Good read.

I'm curious what the Lukari will come up with in the end. This will be their first big ship with any significant warp capability. In terms of size, maybe something like the Nandi, maybe smaller? Looking forward to seeing it. Plus now, I too, have an idea what the winter ship might be.

Nah, its not the KDF who are designing it, the feds would make sure its all flowing lines and an unimposing as possible so it would suit the 'peaceful exploration' ethos

Of course, who is to say that other parts of the Lukari government are not shipbuilding with the KDF and Roms... it could be an intresting multifaction pack - 3 Lukari ships, each with a design borne of each factions style (and making for some epic kitbashes as you could mix fed-esque parts with kdf and rom)

I see some calling out the Winter Ship already, but this sounds more like it could be February's Anniversary Ship.
Then again, it didn't take long to bring out the Jupiter after the various voting options ended so we could be looking at a bonus freebie akin to the Obelisk when Season 8 arrived. I mean, it's alomst time that Season 12 arrived, I think...

This was nice to read. I agree for a T6 Sovereign Class but that image you posted is the ST: First Contact/Insurrection Sovereign Class not the Nemesis/Post nemesis Sovereign class, which is the latest design of that class. I hope they will use that design and not the First Contact/Insurrection Sovereign Class design.

How many Players want to see a Lukari ship with angles, and how many would prefer a ship with curves?

Im in the angled ship camp, BTW.

I've realized that Nog and Tom Paris have a bit in common. They both started out as criminals in the pilot episodes of DS9 and Voyager, used against their family/old comrades by Sisko and Janeway, then evolved over the course of their respective series into Starfleet officers, then became captains by the 25th Century.

Incoming lukari ship (Xmas maybe) but an excellent story. We need a final closing off of this time travel **** though

A green triangular ridge shaped vessel with a star shaped deflector at the front?

Or perhaps a red carrier with nacelles at the bottom and 9 brown escort fighters that normally formation fly in front of it (8 fighters are tactical, the lead one is a sensory projection ship with a red deflector.

Yeah. Go the "middle route" like the Federation did with Starfleet. Then you too can have a bunch of gun-shy college interns pretending to be officers in ships that look pretty and take neat pictures, but can barely fight worth a damn while the crew dreams utopian dreams of high ideals as worlds burn and the people they're supposedly protecting die by the millions.

I've said it once, I'll say it again. I'd love to finally see a crisis where the Feddie-bears deus-ex machina shields don't kick in.
"So you walk eternally through the shadow realms, standing against evil where all others falter. May your thirst for retribution never quench, may the blood on your sword never dry, and may we never need you again."
