~End of Summer Giveaway?

So they usually put on an end of summer giveaway event around this time, 4 days or so of incrementally valued items.
It had been a reoccuring tradition since I've been playing. And now i am conditioned to look for it.
I not wanting or expecting fancy schamcy stuff. Simple things like a tribble or horta acct unlock, spec points, or doff roster slots would be great.

Given the current state of things its not looking good though. What you think?

    STO 50th ANNIVERSARY Giveaway - Sept 8,2016
    http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/10153362-star-trek-online-50th-anniversary-giveaway
23rd CENTURY BUNDLE: Class F Shuttle, the entire Original Series Ship Interior, the Command Tunic Uniform, the Medical Officer Uniform, the Formal Dress Uniform, as well as a TOS phaser weapon.

Not saying that there won't be an end of summer give away, but as those usually occur at the end of the summer event on Risa i would not hold my breath.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Precisely! Thinking you're entitled to FREE stuff is plain wrong!

I think the anniversary giveaway, between it's timing and it's relatively high value, has eclipsed the Summer's end giveaway to the extent that there won't be one this year. Given what we got instaed, I'm okay with that.

You can turn that around. There are literally 100s of MMORPGs on the market. Why is Cryptic "entitled" to people playing (and paying money for) Star Trek Online?

Giveaways are one of the things that companies do to get people to play their games. If Cryptic doesn't want to anymore, then people will play other games.

Because they are literally the only one with the license for it.

they've given a ton of TRIBBLE away this year already... if you feel entitled to more, then bai bai, you are likely not giving them money anyway

I was very straight foward with my query.

To address any of your concerns I'd merely be repeating myself.
I didn't post this to invite the flamers to come and to start a tangent accusation fest.

People either misread or chose to read between the lines or not really read at all. This has nothing to do with entitlement, if you knew me youd know.

It is getting to the point of not even bothering because of the negative recourse of flamming and ripping by your usual suspects of bitter jaded malcontents. I had a feeling that by sticking my neck out id get flammed.

    Thanks for your responses.

The Summer giveaways were always an 'End of Summer' that happened at the end of August. That has come and gone, so probably not this year.

This year's First Contact giveaways were two awesome Admiralty Cards and a very good anti - Borg Boff. 2015 had nothing for that as they were very busy. This Summer they were very busy porting the game to PS4 and Xbox One. Also, they were very busy getting the T6 Constitution into an R&D Pack. It is tough fitting a ship as large as that into a teeny tiny R&D Pack. They also gave out the 23rd Century Bundle on the 8th. That Bundle is also awesome.

There is usually a Lobi Store sale around the August to September timeframe. We shall see if that pans out this year.

If you're looking for Cryptic to give you something for free, then just play the game, because you can play every single bit of Star Trek Online without paying a penny. Sure, most spend a little here and there, some only buy stuff by trading in the dilithium that they earn by playing, but there is absolutely nothing that you have to buy in order to play.

Name one other MMO that gives the base game, three (or two and 1/2 depending on your point of view) expansions, and free story content every few months to players. Name another. Just one.

Anything else that Cryptic decides to hand out for free is a bonus, not a right.

That TOS bundle is awesome, was only after the bridge and the rest of the TOS costumes. The phaser pistols are a nice bonus but I digress.

It's up to Cryptic if they want to give away stuff

Back to the actual original post, I suspect that you are correct that things are not looking good. The Original Series bundle is a bit more hefty a giveaway than the usual and thus I doubt anything more can be expected for a while.

As to the cycle, yeah I know you can usually set up your calendar around certain STO events. You just come to expect that Mirror will be around this time then Winter, then Crystal etc... So when something doesn't show up, it's like a gnawing thought that you have forgotten something that will bite you some place very uncomfortable.

To answer the original post as a straightforward query - we have had quite a few decent "freebies" this year with various events and it could be that the team are busy with other things. For all we know Q might have made some outrageous demands in order to welcome our new console players to the fold

this thread is a reflexion on how toxic sto comunity is.
a simple question was flamed to hell just because a giveaway was asked for, giveaway that wasnt something out of order since it was the end of summer.
what the se very toxic players here dont understand is that other mmos that have alor more players like tera, have frequent giveaways, loguin rewards, etc and the comunity aplauds those since it keeps players more enganged to the game, playing more frequently.

i wonder why sto comunity is such a "special snowflake" in regards to mmos in general.

"Flamed to hell" is an overstatement. Most responses have been pretty straight forward especially considering the frequency in which "give us free stuff" topics are popping up as of late.

To answer the OP's question, I believe that we've seen the last of giveaways for a bit which is not necessarily a bad or good thing. Of course, there can always be something unexpected. Giveaways happen with a lot more frequency than cryptic is given credit for.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

Pretty sure any community has its special people. Its probably just that since STO doesn't have the number of forum people that others like WoW have... the people who object are more noticable.

As for the OP... We might be getting one soon, as the End of Summer giveaway is generally a scheduled thing. The fact we got an extra giveaway with Star Trek's 50th Anniversary isn't going to factor into it.

I'm hoping for a return of the Kamarag Retrofit for KDF myself, like they brought back the Ambassador Retrofit for Feds. Having the Space Peanut (Marauder FDC) twice in a row doesn't help. 3 times will be like "Aren't there other ships they can offer?"

Personally i think that the anniversary giveaway (TOS pack) was the scheduled giveaway and that there will not be another for some time. Off course i don't mind if i am proven wrong, but i think it is highly unlikely.

As for the ships, there aren't many T2-4 ships which have not gotten a giveaway treatment in the last few years.

The 23rd Century Bundle was not a planned Summer Giveaway. Summer Giveaways are announced at least a day in advance. This one was dropped at 5 PM Eastern in the afternoon with no advanced fanfare. This was special for the 50th.

There has been some argument here about whether this was really planned or a late day reaction to the reactions about nothing being done for the actual 50th. I will let others argue about that.

And no, you don't need a Patch to put or remove items in the C-Store on Sale.

This isn't a demand, dude, just a "Hey, are there any plans to do this?" I'll tell you from experience that it's a bit annoying to have a giveaway pop up right after you dropped money on a T3 ship or costume pack or something. I don't think it's particularly demanding to wonder in public if that's a risk.

Cryptic has done a lot to Insult hardcore STO fans and Players alike. The Queues are much quieter now than they were 2 years ago. I don'T think free stuff brings new Players but it'll be seen as an appology to existing Players :weary:

What do I mean by Insult/upset?
They gave away a T6 ship to SOME Players - others who had spent 500 Euros or more on this game didn't receive one. No one knew how to get the ship...
They included JJ universe - which is a big no-go for some Players - and then made the new ships LB ships to upset the others.
They have neglected a part of the game - be it Defera, PvP and others - and Chose to ignore Bugs
they have done Little to promote KDF or Romulans - esp not giving them as many ships, missions or bug Support - and Claim that they make no Money (like car makers rarely sell the unchanged models from 10 years ago - you have to invest to get return on Investment).

The state of this game currently promotes admirality over playing (so you don't notice Bugs I guess).

In short: yes, we cannot demand free stuff. But it's waht keeps me doing dailies. Otherwise I'd have quit this game already (=lifetimer and have spent a fortune of this game...)

      18 characters
      KDF: 2 tacs, 2 engs, 3 scis
KDF Roms: 3 tacs, 1 eng, 1 scis
      FED: 2 tacs, 1 eng, 2 scis
      TOS: 1 tac
all on T5 rep (up to temporal)
all have mastered Intel tree (and some more specs Points)
      highest DPS: 60.982
