actually, this is a Troll Thread. Not worth posting anything else to it, since it boils down to OP being annoyed that he doesn't get 'good' stuff for 'free'.

Trying to wrap my brain around the issue in this thread, so help me along cause I'm slow ...
The OP is angry because instead of Cryptic giving out the most sought after, hottest and collectible ship in the game's history for FREE ... Cryptic instead gave out a 23rd century themed item pack to everyone who didn't already have it?
And the OP thinks CBS is going to be mad at Cryptic for monetizing the most sought after, hottest and collectible ship in the game's history (thus driving up the profits for both Cryptic AND CBS as CBS gets paid for the use of the license)?
That about the size of it?
correct.
wrong I am mad at cryptic, because they wait until the last damn minute and give us the crappiest pack possible.
I was actually glad to get the pack. Been playing since before F2P and had never picked it up. Looking forward to using it with my AoY captain.

Come on Cryptic wake up and offer it a different way so we all can have it.

No Cryptic waited till 6pm Eastern which I believe is the time the original episode first aired at, there by hitting the 50th on the dot before celebrating, and it's not the crappiest pack possible. Quit raging over FREE stuff in a FREE game! It was blindingly obvious that this was going to be given out!

yeah, you should probably wake up and realize we all aren't supposed to have it.

You don't like the 23rd century pack? Why not? It's the pack they had that was most thematically relevant to the recent expansion and to the 50th anniversary.
I'd suggest the crappiest pack possible would have been a toss up between:
- Free Aenar BOFF
- Troi's Outfit
- Klingons as a playable race for Fed
All things I don't currently have (but have had the 23rd century pack since the day it debuted). So if they had given out one of the items I list, I'd have gotten something for free. But it would have been a crappier giveaway because, either the items aren't that great or useful in the game (Aenar BOFF has no real great abilities that people seek for BOFFs, Troi's outfit is just an outfit, and the Klingons for Feds are limited, most people just make an actual klingon and can't be used by AoY characters), and they are thematically off for the specific event in question (all three of them have nothing to with TOS).
I am a long time player of STO and a lifetime subscriber. I can say that I agree with the OP in that I am appalled at how Cryptic has hidden this ship that has been most desired by the players for years behind a R&D promotion, instead of offering it as a C-store ship. Even though I would greatly love to have this ship, I will not play their gamble lottery with very low odds to try and most likely fail to get it. If, however, it was in the C-store, even if it cost $50, (or $100 for the 3-pack), I would buy it. I am sure that there are many players who would do the same.
I am not telling Cryptic that they don't know their business model, or that they don't know how to squeeze the last dime from their customers. What I am saying is that this, the most iconic ship of the game, the one that started it all 50 years ago, should be accessible to all the die hard fans who really want it, but refuse to gamble for it. I have not seen any on the exchange at all, so that is not even an option either. I just want to be able to buy the ship at a fixed (if highly inflated) price, without the gamble.
To do this to THIS ship, on the 50th anniversary of Star Trek is an insult to the true Star Trek fans.

Promo packs are much more profitable than c- store.
I am sure but they can still "Make more money" via the C-store on the side
You're not considering the economics of how this works.
The ship's rough value is between 120 and 150 USD. To obtain the ship each person who wants one must do something involving that price tag. Either they use their accumulated in-game currency (900 to 1 billion EC) to buy it outright. But to get that mountain of in-game currency they had to do some other subset of activities that involved resource grinding, so they made the company money in the first place, and that money translates to profits to CBS through the license. The other avenues are people who immediately started purchasing Zen to convert to C-Store item purchases to sell on the exchange to get the EC to buy it outright. Those people purchased possibly more zen directly (or stockpiled enough zen through past purchases and the like) to spend MORE individually on the ship than they would have buying a Zen store ship release. So no matter how you slice it, the folks just buying the ship outright are driving more profit to Cryptic and thus to CBS than they would have if Cryptic put these ships on the store for purchase.
Then there's the gamblers. The people who want the ship and want to "win" it by opening it themselves. They're buying C-Store items (the packs) and opening them. A lot.
I submit to you that Cryptic knows their profit model far better than you do. And if this is the choice they made to make this ship available, they knew it would generate far more profit for the company this way (and thus more for CBS).
It's hard to come by and it's expensive. I get that is very frustrating to players. But this thing wasn't going to be given away for free. And they're definitely making a lot of money on this release.
...I understand that... while I may not be happy with the fact that they screwed us by taunting those of us that are limited in funds to buy that ship no they gave us a 1/10th chance to get it....
Take a minute and think about this. According to canon, the Constitution class is supposed to be a decommissioned ship class. Starfleet only seems to decommission ship classes that are no longer worthwhile to upgrade when they have developed other classes that supersede the class i.e. the Excelsior was the replacement for the Constitution in terms of function for the Federation and is a ship that we seen in TNG to Nemesis.
We know that for this game, there was something that was keeping Cryptic from allowing there to be an endgame constitution class ship available to players. I think that was a mix of canon and and CBS saying how they could allow the Constitution in the game. While the Connie is iconic and is desired by many, the canonical status of it being decommissioned means that it cannot be widely available for Feds (and the 23c Feds). To make it a C-store ship would mean it would be widely available, something that CBS doesn't want.
There was a similar cry of disappointment and anger with regards to the Kelvin Timeline lock box ships. Before we knew we were getting the prime universe connie, people were asking that the Kelvin Connie, Vengeance and the Kelvin Romlan Intel Warbird Carrier to be placed in the C-store instead, since they were faction ships. However, with all lock box ships prior, these ships were not from our timeline, so they couldn't be commissioned as c-store faction ships. Before this lock box, there was also a Temporal Lock box that gave a faction ship from the future, but no one cared that they were not c-store ships then because they were from the future and thus met the nature of a lock box ship.
Everything that Cryptic does in this game, CBS says what they're allowed to do and not allowed to do.
To do this to THIS ship, on the 50th anniversary of Star Trek is an insult to the true Star Trek fans.
I'm not insulted, so I'm not a true Trek fan?
The truth of the matter is, The Connie is in the game. It has been since release.
People wanted an endgame version. but Cryptic said they wouldn't/couldn't.
Something changed and Cryptic released it as T6.
We can only speculate the conditions of the release.
The Promo Connie only LOOKS like a Connie, its actually a temporal vessel, hence the 'Tardis-like' interior
The REAL Connie is the T2 Version (and the KT Version)
If, however, it was in the C-store, even if it cost $50, (or $100 for the 3-pack), I would buy it.
I'm going to have to call you out on this. You are willing to pay up to 100 bucks for the ship? If so, then yes you can afford it right now.
Step one: Purchase 100 bucks worth of Zen.
Step two: Use that zen to purchase R&D 4-packs on the C-Store. They're like what 1000 zen per?
Step three: Sell them on the exchange. Sell them until you cap out at 1 billion EC.
Step four: Go find a seller. With 1 billion EC and any leftover packs, you will be able to afford this ship as it goes for anywhere from 900 million EC to 1billion + trade items.
If the 4 packs are selling for 16million EC per pack you would need 63 packs to get to 1 billion EC. That's 63000 zen. That's 63 dollars. That's within your wheelhouse according to your post.
You want this ship? Go get it.
I have a ton of sympathy for posters like the OP, who are angry because the ship is hard to get AND expensive. And there are a lot of people who feel that the price tag is too much for pixels in the game. For those people I have sympathy.
But if this ship's cost is within a price you post you are willing to pay, then I don't know. I don't have much sympathy. Take your hundred bucks and do what you need to do to get it. You CAN afford this ship.
I am a long time player of STO and a lifetime subscriber. answered this.
not on C-store or Lobi store because they don't want to give it away for free, and they would be if they put them there.
They could put it as an offer just in the Captain's Chair area from an NPC salesman, but... that would limit the cashflow to just subscribers. This way everyone can send them monetary offerings and maybe get something from it.
Of course, I'm not the only one to explain this. I can think of a dozen other threads that GO OVER THE EXACT SAME TRIBBLE. So, if you don't understand the basic business model...? Well, nothing can educate deliberate ignorance.
True. And I think I recall a couple of episodes where old Constitutions were used by other factions. Wasn't there one with Ferengi running around in one? I'd have to look again.
And here I thought it would be at least 2 days before another entitlement generation post would be made berating Cryptic for not giving away everything for free.
I'm rather philosophical about all of this. First, let me say I'm first and foremost a TOS fan. I joined a TOS oriented fleet. I bought the old TOS pack right off the bat. As time went on I purchased other ships just to be a bit more 'competitive' (which, eh, I'm mediocre). My toons all have a related back story that ties in to the 23rd century (and before, somewhat). I currently have the T6 Paladin class and the T5 Ranger class (so I can use the Ranger skin on the Paladin-I bought the Temporal starter kit in doing that). I have the T3 Perseus class (but not the T6 Theseus class). Like all players, I have access to a T1 Connie. Would I like a T6? Of course. All my fleeties would like one as well as a lot of players not in my fleet.
Having said that, My T6 'Ranger' looks great and can easily be immersive enough to feel TOS. It seems to represent a class of ship that would be almost as sought after as the Connie. My main TOS tune is applying for a Connie command (as a rather cheap kinda guy it's via R&d four-packs, one at a time as I grind the dil). My odds are quite slim, but then I'm sure the odds in the original Trek 'verse would have been, as well. Besides, the Connie is the 'Queen of the Exploration Division' and I'm in the 'Military Division of Star Fleet. Time's running short. We'll see.
Now, as far as Cryptic and real life is concerned ... I see why this was the way they chose to have this ship added to the game. It's mentioned throughout this thread. The game's gotta make money or my enjoyment with it may die sooner than later (when the plug gets pulled). Besides, it's already been proven that Cryptic can change it's mind about some things. But this would be tricky. After all, a lot of players have invested a lot of expense to acquire the Connies they got (or didn't get). To change things up so other players can get it in a less expensive or easier way might cause more strife instead of rejoicing. I suppose they could try to add it to the full temporal pack and increase it's cost. Somehow I suspect that wouldn't go over any better. I'd just be happy if the R&D promo lasted longer (maybe stayed permanent). Yeah, maybe we'd see more T6 Connies zooming around in the game than the designers want. But then, new ships get added all the time and maybe just us TOS die hards would 'fly' them.

The Ferengi didn't have a Constitution. There was a TNG episode where the Ferengi had a salvaged Constellation class ship (the Stargazer, Picard's first command before the Enterprise-D).

I understand wanting the t6 connie soo badly it hurts. It's not something I am bothered about as I have always been more of an intrepid fan.
But I understand that it is a huge cost to get one vs the 3000 zen I paid for the pathfinder.
You can also get a tier 6 galaxy if memory serves.
I don't know for certain why this decision was made but it was certainly for business reasons.
It might even be that this was the only way to get cbs to let them do it.
But the fact is, it does not matter how hard you complain. It is not likely to happen.

I seem to recall everyone saying that about Cryptic putting the tier 6 connie in the game in the first place.

Life Isn't fair.
Truer words have never been spoken. That is right up there with the golden rule:
"Those who have the gold ... rule."
CBS would not let them. Staff quotes have been posted and re-posted in the eleventy other Connie threads.
CBS changed their mind, probably during contract negotiations to add the consoles and/or for the 50th.
Now you know. And knowing is half the battle!
Speaking of GI Joe Online, can you believe Hasbro said NO to an end-game HISS Tank?
The heck is my televiper supposed to raid with now?
And if there is one thing for sure ... If CBS changed their mind once, they can do so again.
