Sir, can you confirm or deny your alliance with evilestkhan? Do you have any dramatic threats for our audience, any villain monologue or ultimatums to deliver? Can you describe for us the evil army you've assembled, and any super advanced secret weapons you might have or be working on? Can you confirm the rumors that your evil plans will culminate on the night of the planetary alignment known as "Demon's Day", and could you upload any video you might have of your hidden lair in the heart of a volcano? Black metal castle pictures, snazzy fascist uniforms for your terror troops, anything? Sir please our audience needs to know!
No comment, and to the audience... I will keep posting until Cryptic bans me or until I just walk away... and Sarcasm will only get you so far in this world.
The AoY packs do not include the TOS bridge/interior nor do they include the medical uniform or dress uniform.
what... I meant was that every thing that the TOS pack offers like the uniforms and such.came out when AoY launched.
Actually, all this stuff has been available for years, possibly since year one (can't remember for sure, it's been a long road getting from there to here).
true, but they had to give the crappiest pack they could...come on Cryptic
Well, tbh I don't think they actually had anything planned, rather I think when they saw everyone get upset yesterday they started frantically emailing around to see what they could do last minute until the giveaway was approved, that's really the only thing that could explain why it was announced so late in the day.

I don't buy that since the giveaway had to have been programmed into the patch. Cryptic CAN'T add a giveaway without a patch. The patch came before the announcement, ergo the giveaway WAS planned, but the announcement was late.

I got the pack unlock as a pre-order bonus.

Trying to wrap my brain around the issue in this thread, so help me along cause I'm slow ...
The OP is angry because instead of Cryptic giving out the most sought after, hottest and collectible ship in the game's history for FREE ... Cryptic instead gave out a 23rd century themed item pack to everyone who didn't already have it?
And the OP thinks CBS is going to be mad at Cryptic for monetizing the most sought after, hottest and collectible ship in the game's history (thus driving up the profits for both Cryptic AND CBS as CBS gets paid for the use of the license)?

Nope, they meant the original Atari release preorder not AoY. You're still wrong

that's what I am saying CBS is not going to be happy if they don't make more money they can make more if the offered the Connie in the C-store or even in the lobi store
This is not true.
if they released it in the C-store they would not make more money
C-Store (Account unlock) One time purchase = Every character on your account and any you make in the future can claim
R&D promo / Lockbox (character unlock) = You would have to get lucky for each character you wanted to fly it. At 1$ a 'spin' and very low odds, the odds of people spending at least 30+ are in their favor.
You are not spending money for a ship, you are spending money on an R&D box + a CHANCE to get a ship
Sure, some people will can/will get lucky and only have to spend money once and get the ship, but compared to the people who spend hundreds and not win.....
You don't have to like it, but saying 'they can make more if they offered it in the C-Store' just isn't true

That about the size of it?
Nope and nope I am mad b/c Cryptic can't help but TRIBBLE off their fan base and treat them like TRIBBLE...
Promo packs are much more profitable than c- store.
I am sure but they can still "Make more money" via the C-store on the side
I'll admit, I WAS hoping for a 4/4 layout tier 5 (upgradeable) version added to the c-store, so I could have something account wide, I have the T6 r&d version on the character I wanted an Excalibur for, and my AoY is in the JJ-Prise, but I still would have purchased a T5 version.
Here's the problem with C-store and Lobi: if a F2P player has been playing for years, they can purchase stuff off of both without actually spending any $ on the game, which Cryptic needs if you want to continue to PLAY the game. The Promo packs and similar items generate $ in the long run. C-store and Lobi store don't always.
It's a standard business Gimmick, but without it, Cryptic would eventually go bankrupt. They use other gimmicks to help generate funds, but of course, those who want more free junk are going to b itch about it. They always do.
And so a serious thread became a Troll thread might dang fast with the extra posts from the OP.
Not sure why I'm bothering to explaining basic business practices to him though....as it sounds like he just wants to complain.

You're not considering the economics of how this works.
The ship's rough value is between 120 and 150 USD. To obtain the ship each person who wants one must do something involving that price tag. Either they use their accumulated in-game currency (900 to 1 billion EC) to buy it outright. But to get that mountain of in-game currency they had to do some other subset of activities that involved resource grinding, so they made the company money in the first place, and that money translates to profits to CBS through the license. The other avenues are people who immediately started purchasing Zen to convert to C-Store item purchases to sell on the exchange to get the EC to buy it outright. Those people purchased possibly more zen directly (or stockpiled enough zen through past purchases and the like) to spend MORE individually on the ship than they would have buying a Zen store ship release. So no matter how you slice it, the folks just buying the ship outright are driving more profit to Cryptic and thus to CBS than they would have if Cryptic put these ships on the store for purchase.
Then there's the gamblers. The people who want the ship and want to "win" it by opening it themselves. They're buying C-Store items (the packs) and opening them. A lot.
I submit to you that Cryptic knows their profit model far better than you do. And if this is the choice they made to make this ship available, they knew it would generate far more profit for the company this way (and thus more for CBS).
It's hard to come by and it's expensive. I get that is very frustrating to players. But this thing wasn't going to be given away for free. And they're definitely making a lot of money on this release.
I can understand if your new and didn't already own the gift. But if you do already own this stuff its a pretty useless thing for the 50th to alot of the players. I can see why they feel kind of cheated. So if your pissed off this is for you. https://youtu.be/QnDxPG3KrtA
BenWalker, if you are so mad at Cryptic, send in your resume with what you can offer and maybe you will slowly begin to change Cryptic from the inside toward the out or maybe not. Won't hurt though. Thanks.
