why would I ask the developers if they use the forum on twitter? twitter is twitter, forum is forum
I want an honest answer, directly.
I do not see a point in participating in a forum that only has the purpose as a place for players to vent
when angry. So my question to them...not players, is What is the real purpose of this forum ? (in other words)
If it is not a two way interaction between players and the folks designing new content for the game (to at least some
measurable extent), then I want to know.
If it is not, I can feel justified in ignoring the forum as a waste of time.
I like the game, but I am a busy person and I do not want to expend effort that is absolutely wasted.
In this question I will not accept answers from other players.
Sorry to break it to you OP, but if a Dev doesn't answer you it's not because of rules, it's because they are ignoring you. The last thing they want to do is answer some nut on the forums with a bad attitude. That would invite all kinds of unwanted threads like this one.
If you really think the devs would answer you here, you're largely mistaken. Go bug them on twitter, but with that attitude I'd assume they'd ignore you. I would.
Ideas are a dime a dozen. Writers really do not want you to come up to them with your brilliant story idea, most have more ideas than they know what to do with.

When people are so mean spirited, nasty, cussing out any and everyone left and right, and generally being much more demanding and demeaning than they would accept if it was happening to them or someone they loved/were related to - WHY would anyone think someone would attempt any sort of contact/conversation with them?
Perhaps if the community at large (not ALL players - but those who never have anything nice or positive to say, or who can only speak down to/yell at others) were a bit more tolerant the Devs for STO would be about here a bit more. It surely seems like the Devs for the other games here on ARC are on their respective Forums.
I know I don't use Twitter/Facebook/what-have-you, so I come here for information and chat - I would *love* to see the STO Devs here. However, I wouldn't expect them to do so when it's such a hostile place in general, much less toward them. Hell, half the time I'm afraid to post anything for "fear" the angst/anger/a**holery will be directed at me....
Maybe if people here spoke reasonably, stopped screaming/ranting/demanding, ended the name-calling and simply *communicated* in a nicer way the Devs would respond by also communicating back....
Just my 2 ec - sorry for replying against said rules.

That's a dumb idea. That would never work and you're a horrible person for suggesting it.

I seriously doubt they're going to answer your thread as it's a complete waste of their time to respond to people that seek attention. The devs will sometimes respond in major issue threads. I've only seen one of the designers respond to "idea" type threads a handful of times.

I can think of one... years ago. Some people made a thread in the doff forum about suggesting new doff traits. Borticus asked us what the overall goal was. (mostly flavor) But also what sort of usage the trait would have. He specifically cited the addition of resolve to the game as an example of something that was annoying to code because it meant going back and adding it to a lot of things that didn't have it. My reply was that I wouldn't use Resolve as a model for future additions, but that I would use Shroud and Telekinesis. Some doffs have them... But only a handful of assignments care about it. Since then Perfectionist and Free-thinker have been added to the game.
Moral of the story? Devs respond better when you catch their attention with a presentation of an idea that they find interesting to read. The OP? is pretty much begging to be ignored.

A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"

"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

There have been a couple of not-bad suggestions in this thread. I'm hesitant to jump on board with them, or call them out publicly, since it might be too late for a major change like this. I have to check a lot of variables on my end before pulling any triggers.
The GOOD news of this thread is that it contains a whole bunch of ideas that, while they might not be excellent suggestions for a Skill, would definitely make the cut for Traits, Starship Traits, Spec Abilities, Set Bonuses, or Doff Abilities. So while I might shoot them down now, I'm also bookmarking the thread for later reference.
This thread is shaping up to be another one of those where the suggestions being made don't quite fit what our design is aiming for, but aren't bad designs for other aspects of gameplay. So, again I'm bookmarking it!
Does [Nikeix's proposal] address the other feedback in this thread? Cause other issues?
I see patch notes that are direct responses to my suggestions/questions/input fairly regularly. But I'm usually looking to fine tune stuff they're already focused on.

Having ideas is easy. Actually working them out and delivering is a lot of work. Chances are that lots of player ideas have already come up among the devs, too. The rare times they haven't and are also ideas they wish to pursue, kudos to you. Even if you work out a complex proposal, chances are that you completely miss the actual challenges and what is actually feasible in the game.
The more specifan idea or suggestion is appropriate to something the developers are already working on, the more likely it's something they can actually integrate. When it comes to feedback they officialyl ask for on Tribble, you're in a good starting point - but you can still easily waste your opportunity by saying something like: "Throw your implementation and idea out and do something else entirely that I describe in this post."

Still, OP, if you don't want any responses from anyone but the developers, perhaps you should just ask them directly. Most of them are on Twitter.
This approach doesn't make much sense.
