Because this "I have been playing longer and spent more money"-post-competition in this thread for virtual pixels is just ridiculous childish.

If this is the backbone of Cryptic's community, then they are really lucky. I wished I had such freaking out customers arguing about who paid me more LOL.

My problem isn't so much the "pixels", but the insulting suggestion that I haven't shown unwavering support of this game.

It sounds like you're saying they gave you a free ship for no reason at all. There has to be a reason for it, and it seems strange they wouldn't give a reason to the people who received the ship at least. I could understand if you weren't allowed to say what the reason was, but it just doesn't make sense that you don't even know why you got it, which makes it seem more arbitrary and furthers speculation.

Sounds like I'm saying they may well have criteria for handing out ships, but that we simply don't know what those are.

Yes. I'm not saying you do know. Sorry if I gave that impression. I'm just saying it's weird that the people who got the ship don't even know why, other than the cryptic "you're a loyal customer" message in your email. People are going through their account records to see how much money they've spent over the years, trying to figure out what the criteria could be to get the ship. And PWE's response furthers speculation. All I know is PWE doesn't want people to know why some got the ship, out of fear of revealing personal information.

To be honest I would love the ship, but don't care either way. I'm not into Ferengi stuff anyway. Besides, if I want to fly a Ferengi ship, I have the Nandi summer event ship, and that's a freaking awesome ship.

Exactly this. My dog need to be praised and rewarded for his unwavering obedience. Or children, pick the most obedient to teach the other ones how to behave. But grown up customers ... this would insulting me ^^

btw, this ship isn't even good stat-wise. If I would get it (I wont), then it lands in drydock right after mastery is completed.

OK ... Just logged back in and checked my setting and the box in front of "Allow us to send occasional newsletters and updates to your registered email address." is filled and I didn't get squat ....

So I guess my part of the selection criteria of adding anymore money to this will be changing and I'm not going to reveal that selection criteria .....

and if that the ways it is going to be then that is the way it will be ....... But you bet your bippy I'm going to get my free Uniform :) ....

    Have fun everyone !!!!!!!

I haven't received e-mails from PWE in years also. As a Lifer since the head start phase, I am a bit curious to know what the criteria is to get the ship and the swag.

what if they keep that secret.... only the few will know

That is honestly expected. As I said, I am just curious. Congratulations to everyone who did get one though.

A game that relies on and promotes micro transactions should in fact reward it players that spend money. There is a reason casinos want their high rollers returning and not going to other casinos.

This is like opening a soda and finding out you're a loser. I didn't need the reminder guys, thanks.
LOLS I wish they still printed "You are a loser" on the caps.

Everything I get from Cryptic, PWE, or STO always goes into my inbox, so why would a message from a source I'm sure most people have marked as "trusted" go into the spam folder in the first place?

Sure. And your comparison of STO with Casinos fits wonderfully.

Btw, did you ever visit one? I do not envy any player there, especially not the most "unwavering supportive" ones.

Yes, at 54 I have done my fair share of gambling playing 21 @ upwards of 200 - 300 dollars a hand. I no longer gamble but don't mind spending money on some games like STO and Star Citizen.

Perhaps. But, if so, then people who reportedly clearly spent more money than a whalette like me should also qualify. And apparently they didn't.

So, to paraphrase your statement, a game that relies on and promotes micro transactions should in fact do everything in its power not to antagonize 99% of the other players that spend money.

I think it was largely random. IE a lot of people qualify but only a few actually get it.

Update: A representative for PWE issued the following statement to Massively OP in regard to these ships: “The gold-plated T6 Ferengi ship was sent out to a select group of players as part of an e-mail specific promotion. Unfortunately we aren’t able to reveal any additional information, as it goes against our policy to protect the privacy of our community members.”

    http://massivelyop.com/2016/07/20/star-trek-online-confuses-community-with-ship-giveaway/

Welp, there you have it. lol. Not even disappointed anymore. That's pretty funny.

    Checkmate PWE.

Well, I can't say I ever expected them to reveal the rationale behind the choices to begin with. They never do.

When ppl got ships for not participating enough, the loyal Captains got upset, as they felt they were the ones who should have been rewarded instead. Looks like that's exactly what PWE did, this time: reward the loyal customers. And now other loyal customers are upset for not having gotten a ship too. I know you're thinking I'm taking this into a "Damned if they do, damned if they don't" direction; but no. Rather I'm saying that playing favorites amongst the playerbase (when the results are public) is rarely a good idea. I hope, in the future, they find a way of doing such promotions without alienating the rest of the players; cuz clearly this isn't WAI.

But it really is a damned if they do damned if they don't type thing, like a lot of things around here.
I'm not even disappointed anymore tbh.

I figure a lot of people may have qualified for the gift, but perhaps they only drew a select few names.
Knowing Cryptic they probably wanted to keep this ship very rare, and I'd be surprised if they issued more then 1000, and no more then 100 swag bags.
    But that's again all speculation.
However, if what I suspect is true, it would have been a nice courtesy on PWE's part to say "This will be a very limited edition starship giveaway, and only 1000 lucky winners will be selected at random from a pool of qualified players"

At the very least this would have cleared up a lot of the questions people had. And even taken some of the sting out of not being considered a loyal supporter. Onecould then simply caulk it up to bad luck, a bad roll of the dice and move on.
The rumours haven't helped either; we've been hearing speculation all day, like, "More then 1000$ in the past year/ LTS Subscriber/ Joined during beta"... etc.
So I can't blame people for feeling confused/disappointed when they keep getting unfounded information.

End of the day though, I can accept the "random draw from a pool of finalists theory". So that's what I'm going with. lol

And in regards to the absentee ships, like I said earlier, didn't mind those. It was pretty clear they were intended as lures for inactive accounts. And that is fine (even though people reportedly got them who had never left). The intent behind the message was clear, even if they messed up the distribution.
The "Loyalty" email though... doesn't mean anything, most of us feel very loyal to STO.
They need to define what they mean, or at the very least say "the requisites are secret, but we'll only be giving out a very limited amount of ships."
    *shrug*

Anyway, I'm glad you got one, seen you around lots on the forums and in game; most certainly a loyal player.
    Congrats to everyone else.

Yes, they should have. But maybe they figured it's email, so others wouldn't know. And that's not how it works, of course. Peeps are going to flash their shiny gold ship in channel, or are simply seen flying with it.
End of the day though, I can accept the "random draw from a pool of finalists theory". So that's what I'm going with. lol

Good philosophy! :) And a plausible explanation.

Aww, that was a very nice thing to say! :) And I'm glad I got one. Doesn't mean I don't also feel for my fellow players, who I know have been at least as loyal. They really should find a better way of doing this. Like the way you suggested: let ppl know there will only be like a 1,000 of these given out, from a pool of qualifying players. Wording is everything. And communication, for that matter.

It's under your profile in Arc. Settings -> Language settings.

But I doubt it has anything to do with the bling ship mail.

I dnt get how releasing the info on how to get the ship would be relasing ppls personal info on those players. I can go with a limited number of ships for x players. Just would be respectful to be tol :(

I do believe that the Nagus will become available for the rest of the players at some point in the future, more than likely through an R&D pack. The recipients of the code are probably just like those who people who are lucky to get an advance screening of a movie. There is too much to made for Cryptic/PWE to not make it available to the masses.

For a lot of us it's not about the ship, it's about the implications of that email, it's put a bad taste in my mouth regarding this game. I'm going to attend the Anton Yelchin memorial tonight but after that I have no idea when I'll be logging in again, and I actually wish I could get a refund for everything I've purchased this year since clearly my money isn't valued enough for me to be considered an unwavering supporter.

    I feel so neglected.

I got almost every ship Lockbox or otherwise, and these free emails never come with any goods. I do Beta testing and spend alot of hours playing the game every day.

I get it we all can not be "Special" but i am loyal and if its a reward for loyalty then I am hurt... :(

Wow where to I begin to pick apart this statement By Cryptic. I know alot about Data Protection laws. If no names or emails are released on who got it then no law broken there. Criteria wise as to who got selected is also no breaking the Data Protection laws. So Cryptic. Epic failure in your Statement. DOH. Releasing Critera for how & why people were selected for the Ships promotion doesnot lead bk to who got the ship. STUPID Statement there. I think your PR department need to go back to law school cause they haven't a clue. Also P.S. to all your staff at cryptic. Cryptic & PWE have your personal details. Has you all work for them & it is perfectly legal, for them to sell that info to telemarketing Companies. hahahahaha. So all them telesales calls you get when your sat at home are all courtisy of your beloved bosses at cryptic being able to sell your details to them companies within the confines of the law. Bet none of you knew that working for them hey.
I know this as I did data Protection laws in Collage.
So if it's legal for the company you work for to sell all your details to marketing companies then how is it not legal for them to release critera on how people were selected for this promotion. Go figure. Hiding behind no answers as they cannot answer it as they do not even know the law. DOH EPIC FAIL.

If this was some kind of contest/promotion dont they legally have to disclose how people qualified to win?
  • stulloydstulloyd Member Posts: 170 Arc User
By way no more money is passing my hands on this account anymore. If I want an ingame ship I will save Dilith or EC's to get it. I will play your F2P model & i think it's time every1 stood up & did the same instead of posting their anger. Answer with silience. Don't pay for anything in game. Now that will really hurt Cryptic & that will really make them stop & think more about taking care of their playerbase. So who's with me in this big petition of not buying another thing till Cryptic change their ways with lack of Bad Costumer service.
