I agree with everything that has been said here against this idea. Most of the time the players don't even know what they want. And what they think they want, they complain endlessly about when they get it.
Like was said in the post above mine, community opinion is so very varied that they (the devs) wouldn't know where to start in 'giving us what we want'.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
I think the developers should open threads (for a limited time)
and ask the players what we want in.
Fleets
PvP
Playable races
character creation
rep
events
raids
missions
the forge
ships
crafting
STOP GUESSING
ASK THE PLAYERS
LET THE PLAYERS GUIDE >SOME< of the developement
and don't say...we did this and this player over here wanted it.
that is cherry picking.
find out what the MAJORITY want and do it.
I will give a sample answer:
Fleets - tier 6 holdings with huge dil reqs
Pvp - not worth the trouble
Playable races - KDF-only cardassians
character creation - asymmetry
rep - doesnt matter to me
events - old featured episode rerun rewards back
raids - i dont know what this is
missions - i like the ones we have now more like them
the forge - ???
ships - cardassian ones for kdf
crafting - no thanks~
Sure why not.
fleets - more and bigger holdings to sink dil
pvp - couldn't care less as long as I'm not required to participate
playable races - unrestricted custom Aliens
character creation - unrestricted
rep - more, please
events - more, including reruns, please
raids - as long as they aren't all easy all the time
missions - more meaningful player choice, otherwise keep up the good work
the forge - Klingon rebels ground fedside, that accolade has been waiting since Nimbus was released
ships - unrestricted/cross-faction
crafting - unique rare items
To go with our Barbie-doll- and Ken-doll-like characters? Definitely. And I want them on my shocking pink Constitution class starship. I want to be *seen*, not just heard, while in combat.
Worf: Captain, the enemy is firing at us.
Data: The torpedoes are composed of an energy source that I am unfamiliar with sir
Riker: Wait... are those Pink Flamingos coming at us?
Picard: Conference!
I have seen many ideas that have been raised in the forums like the cool down button for events on the queues menu for example but specifically asking all players for input and ideas would just result in a barrage of conflicting garbage that is for the best part useless anyway.
best to leave it as it is where the devs can just cherry pick the odd little gem of an idea as it comes up.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Why do we need to ask, when everyone is so eager to tell us already?
exactly. Every thraed on the forums is someone telling the devs what they want. so there is no reason for them to formally "ask", when all they have to do is read the forums.

Because I want to know that you want obtain knowledge about my need for a pink flamingo gun. I want to feel as though you're listening to my pink flamingo gun needs. I want to feel that you've lowered your shields in anticipation of my pink flamingo torpedo... wait bad metaphor
The entire team does listen, and we get surprising results. I have an interview coming up that might surprise more than a few of you as to how much the team does hear - I know I was.
The team does listen - from QOL improvements (which come from our feedback) to changes in the way things work ingame. I have examples of them adapting to our requests going back 3 years. Do they do everything we ask? Hell no - but when it makes sense both in terms of resources needed to make the change or the impact to the game as a whole - we often see things go our way.
To say they don't listen shows ignorance re: the actual history. "but, but my __________ issue hasn't been addressed." Reread from the ' Do they do everything we ask?' forward.
Player requests - here are a few I can come up with off the top of my head before my second cup of coffee:
Reduced times for repuation projects
Reduced costs for reputation
simplification of repuation requirements
Reputation tokens for alts
Lower R&D costs
More Dilithium (although honestly, they reduced and spread it out more)
I once told them what I wanted, but Taco only put his hand on my shoulder, sat me down and quietly said that the head of PW couldn't do that due to it being physically impossible to do that with the entire server unit in one shove.
At least, not without truly ludicrous amounts of personal lubricant.

nice one, I laughed till I cried.

now there's a few considerations:
not all the people active here are ready to dish out money
just because a topic is very active, doesn't mean that a lot of players are interessted - it may be just a few people with strong opinions.
Also not all the Things requested are feasable - and some are (imo) quite absurd.
but generally I think the OP posted quite a few things that players want. And yes, I do think that devs should draw Inspiration from the Forums. And up to a certain degree I think they do.
18 characters
KDF: 2 tacs, 2 engs, 3 scis
KDF Roms: 3 tacs, 1 eng, 1 scis
FED: 2 tacs, 1 eng, 2 scis
TOS: 1 tac
all on T5 rep (up to temporal)
all have mastered Intel tree (and some more specs Points)
highest DPS: 60.982
There is a 'be careful what you wish for' thing remember.
Lots of people wanted easier to get dil, more dil rewards, and less dil cost for in-game stuff.
The result is a dilex that will hit 500 dil/zen before long.
Be careful what you wish for.
Actually, before the market flooding events it was pretty stable. We haven't had anything to counterbalance the creep up. Hopefully in time the exchange will come back down. But with our luck we'll hit the next Mirror Event in October or something before that.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

I think the Devs have made some pretty nice, player requested, changes to the game recently. Just because they aren't the changes YOU wanted, OP, doesn't mean they weren't something players didn't want.

well they did poll future content focus actually several times... before romulans were a thing they were highest in the polls for future addition in the game.
many other features that were constantly asked for in the forum, like the ship visual slots were asked for by the community numerous times.
TOS expansion...
I think this thread is just another "I want XYZ in the game" while it ain't actually something a majority wants, or in other words, entitlement combined with the notion that my ideas are the bestest and easily implementable.
Actually this game's content supply is a lot more player inspired than many other MMORPG's I have seen, although most of them do reach out to players for inspiration. The STo dev team does it however in an astonishingly direct way, via polls and sticks to those polls (except for anything PVP related)
If I could make a prediction based on those polls I'd say that we are not far away from playable cardassians.

Players are short-sightedly self-interested and will inevitably put forth "ideas" that are nothing but "gimme more for less." It's the devs' responsibility to ignore those.
My two cents;
Don't know how running a MMO works but I believe more that the forum is closely monitored by Trendy or someone who gather information from us and then present the information what the players are discussing and saying in the forum / Reedit on a weekly / monthly meeting.
The dev shouldn't listen to the forums, Stephen 'Steve' Ricossa Jr should, cause this is his game and he decide how it should be shaped.
Its funny how people think that Cryptic don't have any clue what we are saying on the forums and not "listening".
The forums are up for Cryptic to see what the community says.

The Terran-rep torpedo being a must.

No wonder they don't do the polls often.
To be fair, it's not as if they included Pink Flamingo skins for our Star ships
