But how can we sure that sensor blindness in a Nebula is a scientific inaccuracy? We can't actually go to a Nebula and test how our sensors would work when being exposed to the various gases that exist within a Nebula. [...]
Well, we can test this for present-day slower-than-light sensors. But certainly not for subspace sensors of the type that is supposed to be used on Starfleet ships in the 23rd century.
Well, there's two levels of known unknowns....
1: We don't know enough to be able to realistically guess what or how many things could interfere with Star Trek sensors, but there have been many things pop up in the TV show, sooo....
2: we have very limited information about the composition of nebulae. Analyzing the visible light coming out of them isn't as accurate as you'd think, because it gets distorted before it gets to us and we may or may not be able to identify the nature of the distortion.... then there's the things you can't detect with visual sensors...
As for why starships in Star Trek don't rely on visual.... The distance scales involved are large enough that the speed of light is typically too slow. Nebulae are BIG... Some are light YEARS in diameter...
from what ive gathered from people that played it in tribble it really isnt a big deal,do some missions until level 10 then you get thrown out in the world doing the same content as anyone else.
i sure hope they are holding something back because if thats it well im not going to bother to level another character...
they did the same thing with "Legacy of Romulus" you only got access to the First section of missions dont want to spoil the storyline before its released.
Yeahh, but my butthurt there is that with LOR, everyone that bought the pack got access to those firsst few sections.. Not any more though.. Its just give us your money and go away..
FYI, when they did the beta testing for LoR, it wasn't based on who bought the pack. They sent closed beta invites to people who did tribble testing in the past. I should know because I was one of those people and I never bought the LoR ship pack.
and I logged onto tribble the day after i bought the pack and had a great time with it. Not meaning to discredit you as I know your correct, but that wasnt the only way people got involved in LoR pre release..
From a summary of today's P1 podcast with Samuel Wall (art director for STO) someone kindly made on reddit:
"Time travelling a big part of the storyline. You start in 2270, will go forward to 2409, then back to the 23rd century and back to the future again (throughout time, basically. So there's a bunch of content not on TRIBBLE yet!!!!)"
Yet another confirmation that there is much more coming in this expansion.
That's very true - I remember the recently-updated splash page having something resembling 2270-2280's Scotty on that page. We haven't yet seen anything of the aforementioned Scotsman, nor have we seen anything to do with C28th content (missions or otherwise).
As (likely) with other LTS/Gold folks, I'm hoping that it's all going to come available on TRIBBLE as soon as it's ready. Unfortunately, nobody knows what's coming and what isn't - with the exception of what's already been announced.
It's not a mistake. Calling the ToS a 'faction' is a mistake, but the expansion is exactly as it was planned to be. Whether you think the plan is a good one or not, it's not happening by mistake, or by error.
Admittedly, this makes the second new Federation Tutorial in two years, but if there is a mistake, it's on the player end for expecting Cryptic to do other than cater to the lowest common denominator. (because expecting that is ignoring both statements and actions over the last six years.) This is a love-letter to the Majority (as if Cryptic would create anything else on actual, company time...), and it's got all the loving attention one should expect-including more than six FEDERATION missions. They even gave FEDERATION players a new Raider to play with, and a new temporal-science-type ship, along with a nice selection of FEDERATION starships in the pack.
and it looks to be that they're going to give FEDERATION players a chance to change the outcome of Caleb IV from a FEDERATION defeat, into a FEDERATION VICTORY!!!
so, hey, y'know, put your federation butthurt away and say thank you to the guys and gals at Cryptic, they've got your FEDERATION butt covered.

Why do I need to be grateful? I've got every ship I could possibly want on my Fed toon already, and the second Fed tutorial was interference in my customizable backstory.

I still don't have all the ships I want. That's why. I waited patiently while y'all got your ships. Now it's my turn!
What I think this game needs is to develop part of the universe that is already known for us from series, and just then eventually to go into creating some new stories and content. I think that right now the biggest need is to create playable Cardassian faction with all the content that follows. Second, few homeworlds should be created, like Ferenginar (which is a must - it has so much potential), and maybe Orion, and some others. Also, they should finally add some concrete content to places like Andoria. And finally, at least few sectors of Gamma Quadrant. There are so many things that can enrich the part of universe that is already known to us from series, so much material.

Then how about you go play a game that isn't set in the twenty-fifth century? Star Trek is about pushing on into the future, not being stuck in the past.

But like I said, you all had your chance. Now it's someone else's chance. It'll be awesome. Trust me. We're gonna play this amazing game, with bits set in the 23rd and 24th centuries. Time travel! It's going to be GLORIOUS!
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."
IMO...this is same story as what happened with T5 to T6 ships. Presenting essentially the "same" design and ideas are kind of pointless. Why the laziness and need to regurgitate the same content and called "TOS"...its the same game just in a different era. I love the temporal events but why make a whole season based on content we are supposed to have worked through?
Not really sure if we had ran out of any further foes or ideas but the muses at the DEV team always surprises me. Why take the low road in just recycling same old stuff...over and over again. Guess now we can look forward to "T7" ships too?

Wait, what? TOS ran three seasons, and that era is the least explored of all Trek's timelines. There is a HUGE amount of storytelling potential there that is in no way a "rehash" of anything. If anything, the TNG era is far more fleshed out and perhaps played out (though I don't see an end to the potential there either). And guess what, it's STILL the future! Unless you're typing to this board from the middle of the millennium, the 2360s are still quite a ways into the future from here in 2016.
A very good point. And I think that your point also underscores some of the stuff we've heard about the upcoming new television series. Like how it might jump around from season to season in Starfleet History. Exploring all of that unexplored stuff!
I mean, as a Star Trek fan, here's what has me kind of jazzed right now:
New movie coming out.
This game is doing some big things to celebrate 50 years.
There's a Star Trek con coming to just around the corner from where I work in August.
New television show.
All the rampant rumors about some of the stuff this game might be implementing in the next few months.
I have no interest in AoY beside the account unlocks we're apparently getting (based on what I've read from cryptic so far and their insistence that this is Delta Recruit v2) because as far as I am concerned there is more then enough content for ToS fans, several uniforms, a ship interior, a shuttle, a pistol (that you CANNOT upgrade), a rifle (that you can upgrade) or a pack with most of it.
So for me if the account unlocks are good enough, then yes I'll be making a new character for it (male tellerite probaby), if they aren't then I won't be. Though if we do get a free new character slot for it I'll make a KDF joined-trill science officer to use some of the oddball duty-officers, like the one that makes the fire patch root targets in it, or throw fireballs at random targets
As for AoY being another new fed tutorial, from what little I know of it the original tutorial made more sense story wise, especially once you got to doing the borg queues, then the current one.
This is because you NEVER hear it mentioned ever again. There's no duty officer missions to scout the borg hold on the colony, there are no patrol missions to either thin them out or as a distraction for a fleet to retake the colony.
Basically the federation yet again fell back and let them take it.
Picard must be furious.
As for the 'unified' content, that's all well and good except when orion's, gorn, nausicaan's, lethean's etc all get forced into talking like a battle-junky twit. Most klingon's, whilst they do like a good fight, are not the gung-ho morons they keep getting made out to be, assuming they even bother to remember they are writing for a klingon at all.
Then there's the fact that romulan's and reman's don't get anything written for them either, nor any of the other fed races to be fair.
It's not a mistake. Calling the ToS a 'faction' is a mistake, but the expansion is exactly as it was planned to be. Whether you think the plan is a good one or not, it's not happening by mistake, or by error.

AoY was an awesome idea. A tos mmo would have been great. PvP could have been balanced. It could have been something special.
But craptic decided to pull your character into the future and basically turn the whole thing into a glorified tutorial.
I guess when your choice is hard work or smoking weed in the office all day and half **** it the answer is obvious in craptics eyes...
"it's just a new Fed tutorial!"
The TOS faction is pretty much an alternate Fed Tutorial with one free new TOS ship that we know of and 4 new C-Store TOS ships. Not sure if the TOS social zone will be temporary or available to TOS Starfleet players at any time. However IMO, there is no problem with doing alternate Tutorials in the style of the TOS tutorial for new factions that can't get the same amount of work as the Romulan faction. They could introduce the Cardassian faction or Borg Cooperative faction as a Level 1-10 experience with their own unique ships without having to spend a ton of time like it for the current factions. The Borg Cooperative could be a Level 1-10 or Level 40-50 tutorial depending on if Cryptic wanted to transport the Borg Cooperative member to the Alpha Quadrant through some wormhole or other method or the final mission is meeting up with the ships coming out of the Dyson Sphere.
