My guess: Green was the leader of the human rebellions that defeated the Augment empires, including Khan's, and went on to rule part of the Earth (Khan's former territory?) as a dictator, setting up his involvement in WWIII thirty years later.
This was amazingly well-written and I hope it gets a follow-up in a temporal mission. Hopefully a cross-faction one.

Good read. Wondering if this will lad to an episode and wonder if in some other alternate universe if by chance the augmented humans are ruling Earth and have their own Empire. Guessing the Klingnons in that universe will have a worthy opponent.
One of the novel-verse's Myriad Universe stories (Seeds of Dissent) actually takes place in a setting where Khan won and a star-spanning Khanate of Earth is one of the great powers in the galaxy... and the Klingons apparently found them more than worthy as an opponent given a reference to a Klingon Protectorate. Of course, the story is both novel-verse-based and goes with the 1990s figure for the Eugenics War (the wars are indicated to have dragged on until 2012, but that's still decades before World War III).
The Temporal war all by itself could explain the time line TRIBBLE up. If these guys could have made that alt time line in ENT with the TRIBBLE's taking over most the eastern seaboard of the US they could have kicked off WWIII early or delayed the Eugenics Wars ending by a few years.
Or these men (and woman) are fighters left behind when the Botany Bay left and they still fight because he told them too before leaving.
I've enjoyed these "temporal war" vignettes increasingly since they started, but this one, "Purity", is exceptionally well-written, in my opinion. Thank you, Paul Reed.
I thought back in the day that the one thing that could have made the temporal war nonsense worthwhile would have been to tie it to the Eugenics War. Reconcile the idea that Star Trek is supposedly set in the future with the fact that the Eugenics War never happened.
I suppose it's not too late for STO to go that route.
Fantastic writing! Was so engrossed that I looked for the 'page 2' link. This is so very much like the opening of sci-fi stories that I read in the 'Golden Age of Science Fiction' in the 50's, 60's & 70's in the pulp sci-fi magazines: Galaxy, Fantasy & Science Fiction, If, Analog, etc.

I know it's supposed to be a serious read, but I can't help but think the picture doesn't represent a Na'kuhl covered in his own blood and suffering from severe injuries, but a Na'kuhl cursing the guy who ran away after he caused him to spill his coffee all over him.
Maybe Colonel Green was a black ops commander who figth secretly against Khan forces during the Eugenics Wars in his late 30s. After the Eugenics Wars he started to speak in public about genetic purity and was discharged from the army because autorithies doesn't want a Hitler-like figure as the architect of Khan defeat, in this time he give the speeech we saw in Enterprise. He later rose to command (by democracy or not) his country and fougth in the WW3 in his 70s

Vrell is a soldier for a nation that is fighting against Humanity, but he's been written as a reasonably relatable individual, and we can all feel for his desire for revenge on his captors, especially after losing an eye to them.
Get these blogs into the game somehow and pay Mr. Reed a ton of money to craft an entire arc story line and stuff. Because the man certainly earns his keep.

One idea was to have them come up individually between episodes as you play through the stories, but they're not sure exactly how they will end up doing it. At least it is being discussed.

Personally, if I were handling Star Trek, I might define a divergence point in the timeline and say that's where our universes part. It is already different since the 60s by the virtue alone that no one mentioned that there is a TV show that predicted all of what happens in Star Trek.

Enterprise actually retconned back the 1990s date, sorta - it makes a reference to the Augments being pretty sophisticated for 20th century genetics. Then again, Archer having a great-grandfather who fought in the Eugenics Wars might be more consistent with a war 100 years earlier than a war 150 years earlier.
Upon reading it I noticed there seems to be another common theme - Na'khul technology is not exactly.. reliable. In a previous piece of fiction, a Na'khul complained about some technical difficulties. Now we have one whose whole mission is halted because his tech fails him.
Too bad this isn't really reflected in any special Na'khul ship features. (like the old Transwarp Excelsior thingy). Still, a fun detail.
