PvP: yes or no?PvP IS COMING BACK!!!
People, we finally did it! Well, we didn't directly make Cryptic re-support PvP.
Information about the first updates Cryptic will make are here:
https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/10457082-war-games-scenario:-core-assaulthttps://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/10434053-the-player-potential-system
Im sure Cryptic will continue with their updates!!! It will be cool what different gamemodes they will think of.
Hello! This is a poll where you can decide what should be done with PvP. Should it be changed into something better? Should it be removed? Or, should it remain untouched? Say so here! Also, say why or why not.
rules:
-you can explain your answer once
-no complaining about someone else's answer
-no saying why Cryptic will/will not change PvP, we want opinions instead of facts
-no trying to disprove someone or change their opinion. They can change it themselves if they want to.
-no long articles (patrickngo)

This is a thread to say if you want to keep PvP or not. This is not a place to argue or explain why Cryptic hasn't changed PvP. It is entirely up to Cryptic to decide what happens. This thread is to get Cryptic's attention about PvP and I do not guarantee any changes.
I support PvP because I think it will give STO another fun, extra part of the game for those that have nothing else to do. It will also encourage more players to play the game.
For anything you have about PvP that does not fit under the rules above, you can say your stuff at http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1213524/new-pvp-petition-like-discussion/p1.
I plan on sending this as a petition to Cryptic by 100 or so votes, depending on how popular this might become, so your descision may matter!!!!
I am reaching for at least 100 votes! Please share with your STO friends!

start with
- add some maps,
- disable all special consoles and effects
- perhaps even all weapon mods
In the future: competition for Dev time is not going to be between is PvP or PvE or KDF or Fed or Rom. It is going to be between PC or Console. And as we have all seen: Dev time goes to the bread winners.
If players keep "killing off" and alienating segments of the community on the PC side, I am afraid it will no longer be viable for Cryptic to keep it going. Especially, if the players on the console side can embrace all parts of this game and make it thrive.

Why not introduce PVP with premade ships without overpowered traits etc.
That way the playing field is level aside from experience and teamwork.

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.
Back when I started playing this game very soon after it's a initial release, I jumped right into PvP. That was the first time I PvP'd ever outside of UT Lan games.
It was tremendously fun and I actually leveled my first toon (and a couple of alts) solely on PvP. By the time I was max level I had only done a few story missions. The queues were full at every rank and matches popped one after the other.

The perpetually broken & pay2win & near-zero content state of PvP in STO is not the only problem with this game, PvE since DR has also been way off-balance. The whole of STO needs a fix and balance pass really.
It happened on The SHOW's last podcast. It's 3 hours long but totally worth it. Maria Rosseau gave a lot of interesting info on STO. Also, before you jump for joy about attention to PvP, Maria said they're just talking about it and she also said they have their schedule full until 2018. I believe even if they do finally give PvP some attention, it's going to be a while.
One more thing: SOON (TM) is a standard MMO code for it may be a while, which is what darkknightucf was getting at.

I was originally going to vote for the third option ('Leave it alone') because it seems like every time Cryptic goes near PvP, it doesn't end well (fact: combining queues noticeably reduced activity). When they try to fix something, it somehow gets worse (see: Ker'rat "fix" in 2013 that removed the Red Fed bug and spawnballs, which PvP players actually loved). To leave PvP alone entirely, to somehow freeze it the way it is now and separate it from the rest of the game, would at least prevent it getting worse for those who still play it.
But, assuming there is the will do so, improve PvP. People enjoy it. It can be better, and has in the past. It's that simple. I honestly don't have anything more to say on 'Why should it be improved?' than 'Because it is a part of the game people enjoy'. PvP in STO is fundamentally very good in the underlying mechanics, but it lacks proper attention.
My suggestion: Allow players to selectively disable/disallow any mechanic/item in private matches. Reputation bonuses, traits, abilities, rep gear, Romulans, T6 ships, etc. I created the Vanilla PvP ruleset like this, and people enjoyed it. More generally, VPvP proved that this system works, and that was based solely on following an honor code.
PvP can work and it has been shown to work well. I only ask for this addition, and then the devs can leave PvP alone forever. Please Cryptic, please work with us. We want to help you.
I vote to improve it since it will bring back some players who left for lack of it. It also gives purpose for all this upgrading of gear and chasing the next hot item they develop. As it stands now I really don't play regularly since there is no real reason to get the new shiny stuff to be competitive. At this point I just log in for the new episodes and grind events for the unique ship and then I'm done until the next time. I don't even play the story episodes multiple times for the gear because there isn't a need for it. I would definitely play more if this game were remotely challenging and required me to work to be competitive with others.
I would like to see a PvP rep and unique PvP items with new maps based off of some existing stuff like battlezones, etc. Those who don't like PvP don't have to play the PvP content just like I don't play the PvE content because I don't care for its simplicity and repetitiveness.
Maybe with the game going to console it might be a possibility since many console games include a PvP element.

Why, you ask?
Because there is one option left, unless you want to start messing with the Fed's shiny consoles and traits...and the fallout for doing so.
A 3rd FULL FACTION.
Not the neo-Faction thing the Roms got, that was a horrible decision btw.
I recommend the Borg for numerous practical reasons.
Mainly, they are already part of the game so integration would be less of a pain (Borg character creator for example).
Their leveling ships can be modified versions of existing ships, even CStore ships.
Existing shiny consoles and traits can be modified to be distinct from their original, as well (Plasmonic Leech only drains weapon power and boosts same for user for example).
Regardless, the foundation for a new age of PvP is there...and it is Borg.
Otherwise, PvP can be removed for all I care.
