I used to be one of the folks telling people to stay 5k away from the Valdore. This is no longer a thing. It changed April 4th, 2013. Check the release notes. Donatra cloaks randomly.

Hard to believe its already been 3 years since it went the way of the dodo.
Different queue, same principle.
While many have abandoned teamwork and probe catching all together in vortex i endeavor to do both and while taking down a gate i call out the % health left.
Call me a voth/dinosaur.
I too actually go on defense on one side to catch probes. The groups I get in tend to split to 3-2 and hit both sides. With me on defense on one side its generally 2-2 on offense with the side I'm not on also needing to watch probes. When we get down to just the gate on my side I help with the gate as well. Overall I'm kinda the defender/floater so I can go where I'm needed. And as a cruiser I've pretty much mastered dumping Warp Plasma to catch probes as well. I have been known to help with cubes as well until probes appear.
That is my impression as well. Come to think of it most kasa still play like as if the 5k rule is still a thing.

Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Donatra's cloak was changed to be a "percentage chance each check" thing - but the odds of a cloak are "relatively low" if everyone's outside of 5k, and spike astronomically if her "main target" is within 5km of her... (the punk that's hurting me is too close, better activate my invulnerability system and get ready to blast them...)
As she's one of the only cloaking baddies late game (along with the Scimitar Commanders in the Fleet Alert Queues), I wish that the "invulnerability" portion of her cloak went away, so that if / when people with high enough perception and/or anti-cloak items were to activate them, they could "follow" her while cloaked and teach her to try to hide...
At least, try to hide from teams that were smart enough to bring a snooper, who by definition is not usually a DPS lord...

This might have worked in the old skill system but now even my escort can spot cloaked BoPs up to 1km with no sensors consoles.
That said, it would indeed be nice if she weren't immune to any and all cloak negation.
But also hanging back means I can rain torps and particle attacks onto her without fear of her moving out of my arc.
If you do want to track her when cloaked some DOT affects like the Hargh'peng torp can be visible even when she is cloaked so you can follow her.
Only thing that has always bugged me is how she pretty much cheats by being immune to grav wells etc when being able to cloak but I guess she needs some sort of advantage!

I remember those days. RML Cure, Kithomer calls for probe killing, 5km rule, and 10% generators. Heck, I remember the ground map rules for getting all the optionals. Those days are long gone. You fly in and FAW or CSV the hell out of everything in an instant in those maps.
The funny thing is, people still are mostly clueless about ground maps. Transdimensional tactics elite is very doable, it's extremely small, yet people hate to do it. Then again, I played the hell out of Nukara the day it went live since the devs didn't put cooldowns on it the first 2 weeks.
@lucho80
RML? I know everything else mentioned, but this doesn't ring a bell.
Right - Middle - Left. The players would call which cube they were going to attack.
It was more fun when it was still on Nukara, yes. Getting the whole instance population into the chamber at once, pure awesome.
An extension of that was RMLLMR, where you'd wipe the probes beneath first, then move on to the next set of probes, then the last and THEN start the cubes.
Ahh, those were the days. I miss them, and the 2 million hp hits from trico mine spreads :P
IIRC, the 5k rule was never eliminated entirely. She will cloak eventually even if you stay out of 5km, but past 5km the odds of her cloaking are reduced. Go within the 5km and she will cloak a lot more often.
She will cloak *eventually*, but it isn't random as you say OP. It never has been.
Forgot about that one.
Did you read the linked post? Here's the relevant excerpt:
"Previously she would only cloak if her current target comes closer than 5 km to her. However her AI had been altered [1] so that distance was no longer a factor, she would cloak at random intervals and thus disband the 5km rule."
The footnote refers one to the release notes from April 4th, 2013. What are your sources for saying "It never has been?"
If you were quoting the release notes instead of some random wiki editor, you'd know it only says: Observational evidence says distance does still affect her behavior, even though it does not entirely prevent her from cloaking anymore, and there is nothing to suggest otherwise.
But she does seem less inclined if her target is far out at times. Gives everyone else a chance to nail her with web mines and other short range abilities. And if someone's using a Jem'Hadar set, the Antiproton Sweep does help track her when she cloaks, but you do need to be within 5k, maybe at 2-3k to acutally use it just as she starts to cloak. And Tractor Repulsors I believe still trigger if she passes you while cloaked.
I was around when that change was made and indeed, I discussed the matter with the dev who made that change before and shortly after the change was made. Their intention was to make the encounter more unpredictable, but leave the old rules relevant. Which, oddly enough, is exactly what happened. Who'd have thunk it?
Moral of the story? Don't trust wiki notes over release notes.
You saved me the trouble of digging out the release notes. Thanks!
No, it isn't. It reduces the chance she will cloak and that's all. You can't seriously say that isn't worthwhile?
Nail, meet hammer. Hammer, meet nail.
EDIT
Double post. Derp.
Double post. Derp.
Sorry, I'd believe the author of the wiki talked to a dev long before I believe you did from what I read there. Impress me by getting one to weigh in, and I will accept what you say. Otherwise, you're not saying anything that couldn't be made up.
As for observations, there is such a thing as confirmation bias - you want to believe it because it supports your side of the issue, and what you "observe" supports what you believe. DPS is roflstomping her these days, and she doesn't usually cloak more than like 3 times no matter how close anyone is before she is dead, so how can anyone have time to observe everything that is truly happening anyway? Often the whole thing is over in under 5 minutes, and the fight against her is 45 seconds of that...while you are mashing keys, mousing, team chatting, etc. You only "believe" you are observing that because that is what you are used to from her past behavior.
Waiting for a dev...

. . . You realize that's true for a wiki editor too, right?
