Please stop mentioning rank in VO'd missions

The VO never mentions rank. Obviously, as they won't record VO for every different rank. But what purpose does it serve to mention it in the text? All it does is draw attention to a hole in the VO and hence damages immersion. Just don't mention it. "This is staring to come together" works just as well, if not better, than "This is starting to come together, Dahar Master" so why is mapping of rank in written text so prolific in Cryptic missions?
Alternative: 60+ missions are always going to be Admiral or Dahar Master (except for first three weeks of launch, but timeline-wise, your character is Admiral). When doing VO for 60+ missions, just record them saying it.

Also, not everyone listens to or can hear the VO's.
Cryptic, I support this change. Just not as a high priority
(It's also kind of interesting to see people talk about immersion in MMOs with all the chat windows, silly player names, and extraneous UI, compared to when I saw people complaining that their Skyrim immersion was ruined because the game briefly stuck them in third person to sit in a chair or there dared to be any visible UI at all.)
Personally, the only time I noticed the whole mad-libs-style rank insertion was when it was especially silly - "Rear Admiral Lower Half" just completely clutters up dialogue.

Of course, very low priority. But the reason I mention it is because it just needs them to stop doing something rather than put time into making a change. I thought they'd stop ages ago when it became standard for VO everything. Sure in the early days it's a hangover from the old style but after DR when everyone is the same rank and everything is VO - why do they keep writing rank in there knowing they won't record it? Those not listening to the VO also lose absolutely nothing. It's minor, but no downside.
Oh, and that I get a bunch of mooks to follow me around pressing buttons and fixing satellites and all the TRIBBLE bollocks I'm too important for.
Edit: Haha, Cryptic will censor the word 'c-r-a-p' but will allow the slightly stronger word 'bollocks'

But in principle I agree. Adding the rank variable in mission dialogue seems superflous to me anyway. The majority of your time in STO you will spent at max rank anyway (simply because by just playing the missions and not doing anything else you "outlevel" the story rank progression in the first or second arc already), so you will always be fleet admiral or dahar master. Putting aside that "Dahar Master" isn't even a rank to begin with, you are never doing anything in the game that'd require an Admiral or General, you're kirking it all. You save the universe by shooting the bad guys in the face personally, not by making some sound strategies and ordering fleets - other NPCs do that, you're simply the dumb muscle, never asking questions. You're the Gordon Freeman of Star Trek.
The blogs always adress us as "Captain" and this is all we ever are, so I personally would say it would make sense to either remove all remarks of rank completely or use "Captain" all the time. I see why they choose rank titles as a nod to Star Trek but in the current games' state it really is ridiculous. They could of course also enable us to set the title manually and simply use "title" instead of rank, so people could set their title to a rank, nothing or "moist". Yes, ffs, if you want to be adressed as moist then let them adress people as "moist". It's only ridiculous when people complain about being called "moist" when they have choosen "moist" as their title themselves.
Or, you know, just do nothing as I don't even read most of the flavour texts any more until we get a non-nonsense storyline again

Meh. I live in the UK too and the BBC's efforts of late are pretty lame. They also have just as many 'adverts' (albeit not in the actual programs).
They have also got the cheek to spend licence payers money on programs developed with Amazon that will premier on Amazon before the BBC, and even then it will only be available via broadband download from the BBC, and will not be broadcast on terrestrial T.V.
I have a fleet of ships at my command, plus my onboard Aquarius, Scorpion Fighters, allied pirates, Pilot Escorts, and assist Typhon's (TRIBBLE sod the Command Cruisers) on standby. I'm an Admiral, not a Captain. I command more than one ship, I have my own battlegroup.
Line of Duty would disagree.
Hardly. There is a 30 to 60 second slot between most programmes that are usually devoted to trailers or snippets for upcoming or soon to be released programmes but they hardly compare with the every 15 minute adverts on ITV or Four, or the American style, 'show a few minutes of a programme to break up these commercials'.
You save the entire galaxy, that's grounds for a promotion in anybodies book. Plus it's the only way the Klingon rank of Dahar Master makes sense, it's a honourific for an experienced hero. As Starfleet doesn't go for that sort of thing, an Admiralty rank is as far as you can go, though the Romulans should probably make you Prod or Praetor or whatever.
Edit: Really Cryptic? 's-c-r-e-w' is out? Luckily 'sod' works just as well, thank goodness the poor innocent children who would faint after being exposed to a word as strong as 's-c-r-e-w' don't speak Commonwealth eh?

Kirk is the only one to have ever done that (well Riker resisted transfer but it's not exactly the same) probably because Kirk didn't realise that admirals can still command starships as Commodore Decker, Admiral Ross, Commodore Archer, and hell, Commodore Himself in TMP proved.
Janeway, Archer, Picard, Sisko, Worf, Scotty, Spock and others all accepted their promotions like the big boys and girls they were and didn't act like a little man-child like Kirk and try to get demoted again.
Why not. In terms of combat experience no other NPC in the game has the knowledge of the various tactics and strategies of such a wide range of enemies as the player. Why would you let a lesser outrank them? Rear Admiral you knows exactly where to hit the Undine but Vice Admiral Bob orders you to do something differently, why should that be allowed?
We take over from Quinn as Commander Starfleet (or Kagran, or either Kererek or Obisek). Why transfer from Starfleet to politics? When does the head of NASA becomes the President or a Chief Constable suddenly become Prime Minister.

Are you referring to Admiralty? While technically that might count I don't feel DOFFing and Admiralty are part of the game. I don't feel a connection here, I have several clones of DOFFs in my roster and the Admiralty to me is evil as it simulates content I'd rather play myself
If you refer to ship hopping, yeah, maybe. I'm headcanoning around that that each of my characters has each other characters' ship in "store" so they can call for assistance if required. At best I think of the first character I created as a Commodore/Fleet Captain in charge of a task force. I don't feel the Admirality of it, though. The items you refer to, pirates, fleet support, pilot escorts are all "distress calls" though. And you can't command them, they just show up and help you - in in many cases run before the job is done
Probably. The Dahar Master works, but the Admiral rank just makes no sense methinks. Besides, the point remains that 90% of the time one spents in the game the characters are max rank anyway, making the lower ranks kinda superflous.

And yet: Captain would still be a perfectly valid way to address you.
I guess it's time for me to make my standard comment that, for the US Navy, Fleet Admiral was honorific. Then somebody will make the comment 'What about all the Navies that have that title (or equivalent) and it is not honorific?'
I will now rejoinder that, 'really now, you call those navies'.
It always comes back to immersion. Perhaps a trip to the County Fair may suffice. Sign up to be on the dunk tank. You'll get your immersion.
I would rather not mention rank in the VO anyway as unless they record every rank version, the best you are going to get is a substitute word in there that will sound like cr*p. Your immersion will really break them.

Not a fan of it to be honest. The only thing I find worth watching on the BBC is Sherlock. Everything else I am forced to pay for via a ridiculous and archaic 'stealth tax'. If people love the BBC so much they wont mind paying for a subscription while the rest of us watch other channels without being forced to pay for the BBC's idea of 'entertainment'.
On another (related) note; Channel 4 lets you watch pretty much every single one of the program's they have ever broadcasted (going all the way back to St Elsewhere, Hill Street Blue's ect) all for free.
Whilst the BBC sticks something on catchup for a few weeks, and then has the cheek to re-charge the licence payer for DvD's or online downloads. I'll be glad when the licence fee is scrapped.
Anyhoo that's my rant over; sorry everyone for going off topic!
Both. The full feeling of Admiral is mostly missing but the idea is at least there. If people want to be stuck as only captains then they should have admiralty privileges taken from them.

No it would't. A captain is the commander of an individual ship an admiral commands many with flag on one, that one will have its own captain.

As far as other 'navies', that really harkens back to size. Call him/her the Fleet or Grand Admiral what you want, but a forty ship navy really doesn't need a structure up to that level to function. It too is really honorific.
And don't forget Commodore Wesley, he too commanded a Starship, as well as that battlegroup for the M-5 wargame.

The guy/girl is doing the voice work anyway right? Would it be that hard to record him/her saying what? 4 words? (Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, Captain, Admiral.) When they're featured missions you have to be level 10+ right? So they can't be Ensign Rank. You would record those 4 words, and the few other various ranks that other factions don't share (Sub Commander, Major General, etc.)
Then you just plug those words in according to player rank. It doesn't seem like a lot of extra work, it's recording a few extra words.
Personally, I would prefer that it left this out entirely and called you 'Sir' or 'Maam,' but that's just me. I assume my characters are Captains since it doesn't make sense that they're ALL Fleet Admirals.. but that's my thing.

I agree too. If it's not in the VO then don't put it in the text.
OR go do a bit more work and put it in the VO. You're fetching our rank so just have it put in the appropriate VO too. Just as long as it doesn't sound like a patch job where the dialog jumpy. If you can't do that then just remove the text to match the VO.
That's what I think as well. I don't know but VOs may be paid by the word which is more costs and when at some point ranks change, get removed or added the whole thing is moot again.
