Crystalline Catastrophe Advanced?

Ever since the new patch that changed the skills, running this PVE Queue has been kinda different for lack of better words. In almost every run the Crystalline dies extremely fast, so fast most of the time you barely have enough time to get a few hits in. My friend loves it, i wasn't sure at first, but i have grown to hate it.

I want to feel like i'm participating, helping and so on, but that's a hard feeling to achieve when your main goal is now basically dodging the absorb waves rather than actually doing damage.

I'm curious as to what happened, did they change this pve queue and make it easier, or did they just bump everyones dps up so much that the Crystalline is little effort?

A little of both. It got nerfed after people said it was impossible and after that power creep set in

The point is that crystalline entity deals MASSIVE damage, and so those Tholian punks who defend it... if it don't die fast, it becomes unkillable and UBER strong.

Advanced Tholians are obscene: I have a resilient [Ap] [Tet]x2 shield and still they punch trhough it in few secs ...

So yeah, maybe the entity needs a survivability buff, but tholians really need survivability and damage nerf.

I take all of the entity's attacks to the face and never have an issue. Also some science skills removing his stacking buff that boosts his damage. I would recommend trying to get the full borg set for added survival (despite what people.say its a very good tanking set)

Are you confusing advanced with elite? Like the OP pointed out advanced matches are over in a matter of a few minutes and most people don't get much chance to do anything. Elite may well be as you described, I can't say one way or another as I don't do elite queues.

Is there an elite Crystaline Entity queue right now? Thought that got removed?

Was thinking the same about Elite...

Would be nice if we had one... the Advanced is a complete pushover now.

Not a clue, like I mentioned I don't do elites so I wouldn't know if there was one for CC or not. It just struck me as odd that someone would think advanced was too hard since every one I've been in for the past month has been over in less than 5 minutes. Hell, the past few I was in had several people not even bothering to leave the spawn point and just watching the fireworks from a distance.

I agree with @semalda226 the Borg set is very nice for tanking, especially the 2 piece set bonus. Another choice might be instead of full Borg, you could replace the Borg shield with an Elite Fleet Resilient Shield, probably the tankiest shield in game.

I too find it unenjoyable when the entity gets destroyed so fast, especially when it blows before it even produces the first shockwave. I'm guessing this is due to the large amounts of armor penetration available now.

lately all my CCAs have been 1 minute or under, one of them was 10 seconds long

I've lost the will to play, everyone does so much damage (i don't, i barely hit 15k at most, which is decent but you still have to actually work it). I logged on, refined dil, did like 2 STFs, went into counterpoint advanced and just sighed as everything was killed with too much ease around me. i'd be trying to kill one person while there goes a T6 Scim and Paradox flying by, doing 140k damage each to everything that moves. there was a point where i let my ship fly in a random direction under cloak, then alt tabbed out and did something else, and when I would check back, nothing was in distress, all optionals were met, everything was being obliterated. This was the entire 3rd phase for me.

i finally came back 4th phase... all the reinforcements died in about 20 seconds to end the STF. Again I was a complete non-factor. Afterwards i've logged off and just feel nothing but disappointment. Lack of challenge leads to boredom.

Most CCAs last in the 1-2min range for me. I've found that the best way to ensure you get in on-time to contribute is to:
    1. Not queue up if the people currently playing in the map isn't equal to a multiple of 10. This will ensure you get into a fresh map, not one that is already running.
    2. Queue up while on the ground. This removes the warp in animation and saves you time.
    3. If you can't queue up on the ground, queue up from sector space. This removes the warp out animation and saves you time.
    4. Head up to the entity as fast as possible because that's where the meat of the action is. Don't dabble with the Tholians out far away too long.
    5. Winning a place in CCA is easy. No super ship build required.

Unless Cryptic makes changes to CCA, it'll be really quick for a lot of the current teams. I am not for changes for the advanced version because I still encounter teams that can barely cope with CCA so upping the difficulty in that map might adversely affect PUGs. It really is time for the elite version to make a comeback so that the high-end players will have a playground to play in without hurting Advanced players.

just make a b-line for the entity and start firing everything quick, you should be able to do at least some damage before the game ends, getting caught up in combat on your way to the entity is a sure fire way to get a low damage level.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I think you had just bad luck with your teams OP. A friend of mine did it yesterday and reported dying 10 times while still coming out first place.

Now that’s a battle I would have loved to see.

I parse most of the runs I do. I can assure you that when you do 2 minutes CCas most of the time its just 2-3 good players clearing 90% of the whole thing.

Man, some peeps are really good in game. Yet so many, many more are just really bad.

Haven't done a CCA since the AP-torp event and was shocked how fast that thing dies nowadays. though the 1-2 min runs will come in handy during the next event.
Though what was even more baffling that I got the 2nd place by just using 1 gravwell and 1DRB, not a single weapon fired. :|
Srsly that thing needs either a elite version or one huge revamp.

Some sci powers are absurdly strong in CCa depending how your build looks like. I had a few 90K DPS runs with my sci in cca lately. Up to 60K of that was sci ability related damaged alone.

Using bfaw to its full potential is 10 times as hard compared to the easiness of deploying some sci abilities…

GW has no target limit so in target-rich environments like CCA, you'll be dealing so much damage. For example, if your GW deals 5k damage/tick and pull in 10 tholians, you'll be dealing 50kDPS for the duration of that GW.

Fly in cloaked to avoid the Tholians, out flank the entity, buff up and de-cloak launching everything you've got at once.
In my case that's GW3, DRB, Quantum destabilised beam, isokinetic cannon, TS3 with PEP, along with Ep2A, exotic particle flood, quantum singularity manipulation. It doesn't live long with all that, and most of that stuff in kinetic or exotic so it has no resistance to it. Plus there are so many targets that the grav well will pull in half the map so once warp cores start to pop you get even more damage being dealt.
CCA is one mission where a science ship can probably outperform a BFAW ship in terms of damage dealt, the entity just cannot resist most science stuff.

After the recent skill revamp, I have noticed this too.

CCA was an OK mission before the the revamp. It took time to complete.

I run a Sci, and I have been pretty good at tanking the Entity's power blasts at 66% and 33% before the skills revamp, and that with a T5U Vesta and a T6 fleet carrier. (side note... I SOOOOOO want a T6 Vesta :( )

Now... I hardly take any damage... and well the Entity fold like a wet paper bag.

Before the revamp, even with all the MkXIV sets out there, it would still take time. Now its just insane.

Yeah, the Entity dies so fast, it's unbelievable. Super-DPS!

I noticed more and more aggro builds. With Threatening Stance and Cruiser Attract Fire, it's easier for people to build for aggro-FBP builds. Since gaining aggro means you can heal more and place higher in CCA, more people are doing it. That's probably why you aren't getting much damage. Also, if you have a lot of torp boats in the run, the Crystalline's pulse won't be as strong.

Even before the revamp, CCA lasted for a minute or less if you have at least 1 good torp ship in the run. After the revamp, there seems to be more torp ships (lots of torp build threads lately in Reddit) and many of these resort to PUGs because of the lag.

You have to consider that the Entity only has 5.1M HP. With 10 ships hitting it at once, plus all those warp core breaches from the Tholians, it can go down really quickly.

Its gotten to a point where failing this mission is becoming a dangerously likely scenario. People are reporting CCA failing because the entity dies during energy absorptions, which according to the game is too early.

Yesterday, the entity was at litterally 1% when it finishes its second absorption (it went from the first absorption straight to the second one btw).

People's DPS is getting out of hand in this, expect this PVE to be changed. Between the massive lag caused by all the players spamming every buff in existance and its short duration, there's bound to be something happening soon.

Yup...like I've been saying...Cryptic had a chance to try and balance the game a little with the skill revamp instead they just ramped up the power creep even more

I agree with lordsteve and rifter.
While I'm not the best at dps. For the first time in months, I got second place a couple of days ago. I'm a sci/t5u vesta. It seems like science is getting a long awaited boost. And with the new specialization, the aggro helps alot. But I still have to play smart, otherwise i'm a goner.
It's a good change of pace for me, I am never good at dps. I have only done enough to be in the 10k club in other stfs. My main weapon is my deflector arrays, weapons and engineering after that.

edit: I also like to heal other players with tac, eng, and sci team one and hazards 2.

As i mentioned in a thread i created about CCA the pace the Entity is dying at is a penalty as it removes part of the marks bonus. Sure 18 marks isn't much but it adds up over the course of a day, if the map is run multiple times and you are grinding marks for dil conversion. 18/36/54/72 ect. Yes i use a mark booster.

Also whats up with the loss of flight speed in this map. I have no tractor beam on me, no loss of power if anything i have more power in engines subsystems as leech pours some in but spontaneously i lose momentum about 50%ish speed for no reason ?

A daily run for me nets me 156 Nukara marks. If the entity is killed or 1 optional is failed it drops to 132. So by killing the entity to quick i'm losing 500 dil as part of my daily grind which i have to make up elsewhere

Good for you! I love hearing about people actually healing other people. I'm full a PvP healer myself, I love healing others and I also love tanking when people start focusing on me, both of which are very hard (if not impossible) to do in PvP now. I have thought about making a PvE tank build, as I don't think a PvP healer in the PvE queues is seen as a good thing. :D

That's why I love CCA, I almost always get 1st place in it with my PvP healer build. :p
