Fact is if your seeing a decrease in performance it's almost certainly user error. I know everyone thinks their freaking God these days but your not. Complaining about something you've used for less then 24 hours is extremely stupid.

Wow...if this is trolling I don't know what is. Are we in a dictatorship that nobody should have an opposing view? For real?

Agreed. I don't think there's anyone who, on the first day they started playing the game, immediately and completely understood the original skill tree. Most of us were still discovering new things and facts months after we started playing.
Of course we're more experienced now, but still. Expecting to master something right after its release - and for some without actually having tried it on Tribble - is just absurd. Perhaps some people need to realise that, in all those years, they weren't much better or more skilled players, they were just more used to the system.
People having problems please check that their traits are still slotted. Respecing removes all your space and starship traits for some bizarre reason. But seriously sci got a buff overall, I'm doing more damage and can shield tank better.
I know it did this in tribble {removing of all traits)..But it didn't do that for me in Holodeck..hrmm..Glad to hear overal you got a sci buff
It reset my space traits on a few of my characters, on Holodeck...
Yeah this is most certainly a fairly big buff overall. Tbh I don't think it's going to stay this way. Fair amount of the isa's I've run trans were popping before gens and it just generally felt wrong. Either npcs have been nerfed hard by the changes, isa is more bugged than usual or debuffing is horribly broken again. Still, funtimes eh
Ok, I've tried it out on my main and most difficult character - science tac hybrid. The downsides are decreased size of GW and significantly lower subsystem power in shield and engine. There is also a change to the paradox 5 mini grav well console. This may just be a change in animation. If not the size is reduced drastically. The plus side is the hull and shield pen. I'm going to call it a toss-up and say that it's fine. I haven't specced my ground specialist yet - probably tomorrow. I'm a bit more worried there but we'll see.

"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Haven't gotten through all of the respecs yet, let alone played anything except Argala on one character, so I'll have to reserve judgement. Based on my limited understanding of the new system, I think I've set up some well-balanced builds suited to the characters and made some interesting choices. We'll see.

And what busy production schedule is that, design one new ship model for sale in a lockbox and then have a early lunchbreak for 4 hours at 10am in the morning?
Come back at 2pm and spend an hour designing the next mission to grind over and over and over again for marks for new rep system and then finish at 4pm and go home an hour early?
Busy day indeed...
I'm just wondering, since you seem to be such an accomplished development engineer with the Cryptic engine, when exactly you're going to be moving to Los Gatos? And when you get there, would you mind untangling the spaghetti code in CO before moving into your STO office? With your prowess, that should only take you a couple of hours, tops...
this new skill tree system is horrible. and the forced retrain thrust upon us was an underhanded tactic. I did read the arc messages and posts and they said we would get a free retrain token for the new skill tree system. it did NOT say a forced retrain and all our skill tree points removed and leave us with no skills assigned.
We're thrilled to see all the Captains exploring our new Skill System! We understand Captains may change their builds, so not only have we given out a Retrain Token for all Captains, we're putting them on a 40% Sale!
From now until Thursday 4/21 at 9AM PDT, we are having a 40% off sale on Skill Retrains!

We hope you enjoy this promotion, and we’ll see you in-game!
so it says a free retrain token and a sale. it does NOT say you will receive a forced retrain and have all points removed. I understand the need for change and the need to add new things. so why not just add them to the already established and perfectly functional skill tree? that tree was great to allow us to customize our builds any way we want and gave us the ability to personalize them to suit our build needs and styles. pick this skill and then apply this much points/power to it to the level you desire. repeat as needed on other skills and bingo you get what you want. plus we had way more points to apply and make things how we wanted. this new space 47 point ground 10 point idea is bad. at the least space should be 50 and ground 12 to give a little more ability to set up our builds the way we want to. it limits players a lot. I have talked to many players and also heard the chatter in game at assorted places like ESD and the KDF academy and homeworld and new Romulus and DS 9 and drozana and a lot of people are not happy with the new skill tree let alone losing their builds and having to star t from scratch trying to work up a build. cryptic did that only to force token sales for people will have to buy new tokens after burning the single free token and get to spend more money trying to get tokens until they can work a build up to their liking. plus add to the fact it makes us purchase EACH point separately. that is BS. the old skill tree let us assign points to equall a total and THEN we purchased the total set up AFTER assigning the points where we wanted. it is underhanded and quite frankly dishonest to force us to purchase each point separately instead of a finalized set up purchase. another point is this new tree more or less eliminates individualization of a skill tree and makes many people have similar builds. I have also checked this with people. many I heard had builds quite the same now due to the limited range of set up now. so much for we players playing the game the way we wanted. again cryptic pulled a fast one there. sure I know some of you will flame me for this post and some will say oh stop whining/crying and some will be like so what go buy tokens and some will just plain ignore this. that is everyone's choice. at least you all have those choices. not everyone can buy a lot of tokens to try to work out a build or make up for a mis-click or wanting to change a point application before hitting the total points. this game used to be about the players and for the players to enjoy. now it seems it is only for cryptic $ and those who can do what they please or don't care how it goes because they can get what they want.
I mean no offence for this post and if anyone takes any offence I apologize. I am just speaking my mind and that is my choice.
And even so you would have to be pretty naive to think it would even be a technical possibility to port over skill specs to an entirely new skill system.

First off : i love the space Skill tree, easier to make more builds with out having to worry about respecing just to fit in "Flow Caps".
Secondly : The Ground Tree SUCKS to the point i'm going to quit, i dont play this game for space anymore, no challenge, my ground game has been increasing monthly (or with each lock box trait that boost ground) now this, i made my ground build off of Crits and now my CritCh has been severely Nerfed to the point i've had it with Empty Promises of "PLAYERS LOSE NOTHING" *cough* @Borticus *cough* last time i believe anything a dev tells us... Period.
I have not seen a lot of players saying this new system is great. quite the contrary. many are not happy with it all plus having to reassign skills and traits and other things and have skill bars messed up. makes playing the game hell until one goes through a ton of effort resetting everything and then trying it to hope it is usable.
Right? Come on guys. Your ships were stale, obsolete and like any realtime vessel, you received orders to report to spacedock. Your crew rotated, your ship's systems are upgraded, some of it is good, some of it is learning, and lots of it is pushing the designs and specs to tolerance. Hurray Cryptic for keeping the game interesting.
I'm enjoying the buffs to weapons, grav well, team support, and recharge time. Did DRB get nerfed? I can't really tell, everything dies faster. I haven't checked ground combat, but its nice to have my mines, drones, and turrets all buffed at the same rate now.
Just another intentional money grab. AKA Retrain Tokens. That is why it was designed this way, easy to make mistakes. Thank goodness there are Skill calculators out there now to make it easier. But, I do like the new system. Was able to duplicate my build, and gain a few extra goodies. Look forward to surpassing my 75k dps mark soon.

Yeah, played the FE, did the new redalert a few times... didn't really notice a change. I didn't even spend all my skill points.
going to just chime in again and say new skill system is awesome, its even more powerful offensively and defensively, and that also goes for ground too if ask me, yes its been wayyy simplified on ground with less choices, but they all work so much better, i skilled into ground fairly balanced, offensive and defensive skills, and all my toons are performing much better on ground.
Yh im impressed with the new skill system. Been here since open beta and its such an improvement. Easy to understand. Was way overdue and very much needed
Still seeing overall improvements on my characters. Sci especially, I'm getting better results than I did before. My tank toon is also heavier, and can take a lot more damage - as well as deal it.
You know what's total bull*** about the skill revamp? You have to COMMIT EACH POINT as you go. No previewing your build.
It's literally designed to encourage mistakes so you're forced to buy respecs, extremely dishonest.
Aside from that its not too bad.

Well, having had some preliminary run-throughs with engy, tac and sci toons, I'm actually pretty cheerful about the whole thing. And I haven't burned any of my existing respec tokens yet, never mind buying new ones.
The main issue for me has been the separation of ground and space skills... all my toons have been maxed-out on ground skills, before, and that meant I had correspondingly fewer points to spend on space. Now space and ground are entirely separate, which - in effect - means I got a whole bunch of extra points to spend on space skills.
Also, some things have been arbitrarily set to their previous maximum - like, for example, Attack Pattern Expertise. Which I hadn't spent any points on, before the revamp. So I have gone, effectively, from 0 to 100 in that particular area without even lifting a finger. It's had a significant impact on my tac toons in space combat, that's for sure. The only problem I can see is with my Talaxian tac captain... her enemies no longer live long enough for her to harvest R&D materials off them!
I'm not having any problems replicating my performance on ground - if anything, it's gone up a notch or two - and I'm enjoying a significant boost to my space performance. I'd characterize it as: science, noticeably improved; engineering, noticeably improved; tac, MY ENEMIES GO DOWN LIKE GRASS BEFORE THE SCYTHE. On balance, I'm happy with the changes.
