Serously upset about new skill system. Seriosuly, make a dam poll before changing the core of STO!

bjornfriedbjornfried Member Posts: 401 Arc User
I had it all figurerd out by now.
Make a good build, in the good old skill system and then ad some traits to overcome evtl minor flaws.
Now half of the good stuff is missing.
And making a "science" charackter with a science career, is virtualy not needed.
That is a bad thing.

Why dont you guys do polls anymore?
You would have figurerd it out that that way is not what most players want. Do get it together guys.
Major changes need the aproval of your majority.
And that is not the few guys, you have in your Tribble server.

Its not about tastes here, its about seriously gameplay imparing changes.

You realy gave my day the rest.
It was bad from the start, but you did it.
I want to kill Catbabys. (NOOO! OFF COURSE NOT LITERALY!!! )
Thats the kind of mood im in right now. *Meow* *Splatt*

Games are not developed and run by poplar vote.
And how does this skill revamp in any way impact careers negatively?

It's not soo.much the careers as it was dedicated builds and the revamp has kinda raised the pedastle for Tactical even more.

People have been asking for this for years, the vast majority of people asked for and love it.

Try actually using it some before panning it, although I don't honestly expect someone like you to take the logical approach.

Can we get some hard stats on that?

I second that I didn't want a skill stat revamp I wanted a Skills Revamp (BFAW for example)

    The new system is awesome.

No, really, it is. You get bonus abilities (for example, I can use my Sci skills more often now, freeing up some Boff slots that I can use for other stuff), with the combination of skills you can select more skills than ever before and there's even brand new abilities for hangar pets.

I'm as effective as before, in that I could literally copy my previous build, but I even get bonuses in some stats. For example, I never specialised in draining. Yet I can still do what I used to do up to yesterday, plus I'm much more effective in draining now.

As has been suggested: try the system first, before you start complaining. I'm in favor of systems that add more importance to careers, but we knew from the beginning that this weren't going to happen with the skill revamp. I'm still hoping this will be done at some point in the future.

I must admit, that the first few missions I've played were done rather quickly. Players in my Pugs were much more powerful it seemed.

But that may merely have to do something with the fact that the most fanatic players are more likely to get in the game ASAP, fill their skill and start queueing to get some parses. So I'll reserve judgement on its effects on power creep for now until things have normalised a bit.

Given the game's current state I'd say Cryptic chooses what feedback to listen to and they haven't been listening to me. Our options seem to be put up with it or move on and I don't meant that in a mean way, really, I woke up one day and just stopped playing with exception to stuff I hadn't completed like admiralty etc, then QWW...then FE...now I've effectively stopped logging in altogether until something new comes along though tried doing stuff just for 'fun' and distance myself from the grind I just completely lacked the desire to log in. I gear myself for 11.5 and see the patch notes and I'm not surprised at seeing the final product after the brief testing on tribble. Just the FE to do once a week, the admiralty I can do in few clicks then done and the new Red Alert which was ever so kind to completely TRIBBLE up my inventory by flooding it with duplicate items and had to carefully go through and make sure I didn't remove anything unique.

Haven't even repseced yet despite doing the RA and FE so really it's just a matter of periodically grinding the admiralty then going back to my other business. Guess this shows how much the skill revamp and the tree itself matters.

Once I'd finished rebuilding my main toon's skill tree, things generally seemed to show some slight improvement - ship had better hull, screens and turn rate, enemies died quicker on ground, that sort of thing. Nothing spectacular, but certainly not a disadvantage in any way.

Actually doing the work of rebuilding was mildly tiresome, but I can live with that. I find it hard to muster any sort of rage about this.

after respeccing my skill points i have noticed my Fleet Valiant is hitting much harder than it used to while i have mostly recreated my previous build i decided to experiment in sacrificing some survivability for some more focus on the new tac areas for my tac main.

I found that as well. My ships are definitely stronger. I think it was easier to really maximize stats with the new tree.

I'll add my voice to those who have seen an uptick in performance.
With my Sci main, I generally run as a energy/sci hybrid, so my Aux usually sits around a setting of 75. With the new curve on Aux abilities, it seems my GW are doing more, but then damage-wise, I have also seen what feels like an uptick. Especially with the new Specialization.

Sci exotic build here and the new system shows a big improvement, in damage and survivability

I was able to pretty much duplicate my build with the new system, Kept most of all my same stats and even gained a few I did not have before. It works for me!

Only part I hate is the emphasis in the Tac area for pets! I fly Tactical escorts and raptors not carriers! So I wish the final areas of the new Tac tree had an option for those of us who do not use carriers or pets and never will!
  • tousseautousseau Member Posts: 1,484 Arc User
Then don't choose the pet options?
I'm not quite seeing where the issue is.

I dont understand the issue you are having..I run an exotic damage build and short of 2 abilities (Tykens epg dmg, and DRB by about 300 dmg per tic) everything else is HIGHER than it was.

Ive tested my speed build for my wells, and when specd (in tribble) like I was on Holo..I get about that same top end (around 160 impulse) with only a marginal reduction in damage resistance for Haz and Aux to Dam (those are made up literally in my higher damage rez with 1 point in armor)

I agree...but I can see his point if he was going for the tac ultimate...but the same is true for the others too...You'll end up getting stuff you dont want just for the progress Pip (i dont know what its called) or the Ultimate.

Me and Odin are founding members of the science channel @bubblegirl2015 I assure you we know what we are talking about. In fact thanks to this revamp nearly half of all science powers are once again relevant.

This thread is another example of people hating all change even when it's good, and this is fantastic change.
