Interesting questions about the trait.. I also want to experiment with this krenim torpedo some more. Guess we will need to do more private testing in PVP matches it's really the best way.

Sam do you happen to have this build on STOacademy? I've got almost identical gear minus the tachyokinetic converter and I cannot get grav & prtg anything like 400 in each. Granted not all of my gear is epic but that only seems to add a few points here and there.
Am i missing something here? Or is that screenshot whilst you've got something like Quantum Singularity Manipulation active and is boosting certain skills?

The only temporary thing I had active was a fleet boost for +10 all.

What does your captain skill tree look like?

Dammit, just noticed I only had 6pts in grav gens when I thought I had 9! :'(

Could have sworn I'd maxed them both...no idea! That'll be getting fixed as soon as there's a services sale.

Aside from that does going epic really add that much extra? I suppose over 5-6 pieces of kit it would add up to a few point extra.

I'm currently at 540 part gens. Main issue I have now is working out which tac or tac/intel abilities to use. I'd also ideally like to drop plasmonic, but kinda need it for AMP.

Amp is useless for a science ship.
  • samt1996samt1996 Member Posts: 2,856 Arc User
Well going epic probably adds 30 each from VR/UR.

No its not, not if you use energy weapons. ;)

That hadn't even occurred to me... more testing is in order i suppose.

Speaking of which we tested the paradox trait and it sucks, it's not penetrating shields like it should and even when my fellow tester removed his shields the damage was so pathetic it was just sad.

The krenim torpedo on the other hand is quite deadly and the proc is very nice, I should point out that our tests with torpedo spread were inconclusive it doesn't seem to penetrate shields or if it does the damage is negligible. It also seems that graviton generators enhances the chroniton torpedo debuffs duration, something I did not know. With 275 I got 24 seconds so I can't imagine what a specialist would get.

Well hell AMP does improve exotic damage and it is a lovely type 3 buff as well!

So for all intents and purposes the Terran Warp core when upgraded to UR is the best core for science players crushing even the Solanae. Now for the irritating part where I have to buff all my power levels to 75... >:(
  • samt1996samt1996 Member Posts: 2,856 Arc User
Ok now I've confused myself, lol

Better than the Obelisk core yes but the Solanae core also gets AMP making it a tough call.

Thanks for bringing that to Cryptic's attention. Nerf inbound! o:)
  • jaymclaughlinjaymclaughlin Member Posts: 630 Arc User
I'm using the Solanae Core (I figured the 2pc bonus with the deflector wouldn't hurt).

At the moment I'm favouring APO1 instead of OSS, purely because I'm not sure the decreasing aux power increase is going to be as good as the +10% dmg from APO for 10 seconds. Still testing it though.

If I had to choose, as Science Captain, between high Aux or managing [Amp], I'd probably prefer the former, true. Doesn't make [Amp] useless per se, though.

I'd agree with what @meimeitoo says. Managing multiple power levels could be a pain if you don't have any use for energy weapons, it's essentially wasted energy. I know on my builds the energy weapons are only there for set pieces so their power level is set intentionally low on purpose, no point boosting it just to get amp.

But having high aux all the time and lots of spare power for shields and even engines would be much more useful. It's goi f to make my ship a lot tougher, shields are better and more engine power means higher defense.

Plus high aux helps all the space magic as well.

I have aux constantly at 125 on my Vesta and with little help from leech, i have all 4 subsystems 75+ for maximized AMP boost.
  • samt1996samt1996 Member Posts: 2,856 Arc User
Well Reyan a class 3 buff of 13.2% to all exotic damage abilities including torpedo effects Is nothing to laugh at. I can max out Aux and still have everything else at 60 so I'll just throw on energy Siphon or leech to finish the job.

Solanae core and terran both get amp and can overcap Aux by 5 but the Terran takes time to do it. It also gives five bonus power to every subsystem though to help achieve amp so it's a touch call.
  • samt1996samt1996 Member Posts: 2,856 Arc User
It's adding it's face value damage to my build, isn't that a class 3?
  • samt1996samt1996 Member Posts: 2,856 Arc User
    Ok that explains some things.
  • e30erneste30ernest Member Posts: 1,794 Arc User
Yeah pretty much why I stopped trying to get AMP on all subsystem powers and instead focused on Aux (for Aux - Offense) for my non-energy weapon builds.
  • meimeitoomeimeitoo Member Posts: 12,594 Arc User
AFAIK, AMP used to be a final buff, but Cryptic changed their mind and now it's cat 1.

If I recall correctly, [Amp] Cores 'amped' their own increase as well. (LOL. What is it with Cryptic and erroneous double-proccing?!) That was simply fixed. I don't think it was ever really Cat 2, or meant to be.

Why does trying to get AMP mean I have to have low Aux power? While sitting in space doing nothing I have aux at 127, I'm running 2x EptA, and I have leech.

    Aux power isn't an issue

Cryptic seems to discover that they have double proc'd this or that every other week and nerf stuff that people invested resources into upgrading.

I use the Temporal Warp Core Epic.

    Aux power isn't an issue

The issue is rather dependent on ship and build. Some people don't have leech, or some ships have very light Eng seating limiting the EPtX they can run. So you can have that, but not everyone can.
