I joined in runs earlier on my tank cause I was on that toon (obvs asked if it was ok first) and had good funtimes. Nice to have a punching bag to hide behind when you gwell and torp spam the hell out of everything Nice channel with good folks.
I like this idea. I have a KDF Lethean Science char. Always wanted to place him into what passes for Science boats on the Red Side and see just how good I could make him. Kinda busy until next weekend but I'm certainly going to join and check this out if you'll let me.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
I’m also interested in joining. Reading this thread however makes me still want to clarify on the qualifications. The OP clearly points it out for science ships however later on peeps intend to bring “science hybrid” builds to the channel which opens the field quiet a bit.
I want to get straight if I can team up in this channel with two of my toons or all nine. As it stands at the moment only two toons fly concrete science ships while the rest do not. They do however make use of science stuff and that starting with healing abilities and debuff cleanses over draining abilities up to crowed control.
So in short, what is a “science hybrid build” as far as the understanding of channel rules are concerned?

Good question, I'd say a build that puts equal or greater emphasis on science tricks like crowd control, draining, disables or exotic damage as it does into DPS etc. Healing doesn't really count, it's more about using offensive science abilities and buffing them properly. I'm leaving this partially up to people's discretion because I don't think it's too difficult a guideline and I'd rather not be forced to police people 24/7.
Our main reason for this policy is of course because it is "The Science Channel" and also so we don't get overrun by DPS monsters looking for faster ways to beat content, or God forbid outwright trolls. If you'd like to bring a different build on a mission just ask the folks if it's cool with them like the guy above did and go from there.
In any case the community is about more than just missions and you don't need to fly science ships for some fun conversations!

Just to clarify. It would be best if you'd bring along a ship that has Commander Science BOFF slot (or universal that has science officer in it). However, if you decide you want to fly other ships as well and for example, make a science oriented Scimitar, no one is going to kick you out from channel. I'm sure most people will be totally fine with you flying any ship, would just be polite to mention it before joining a run.

I think I send my dauntless experimental science vessel and my new paradox sci dread first to your new channel then to avoid any confusion. They both should qualify no matter how I play them. Both are flown by sci toons and the latter is currently even in a build rearrangement/upgrade process.

This channel is intended for people who fly science vessels (to keep it simple, we define any T5/T6 ship that has Commander Science Bridge Officer slot as a science vessel.

So, pretty much another Fed only channel?
Well, all factions are getting (pretty much) free sci vessel with the anniversary...
Well, all factions are getting (pretty much) free sci vessel with the anniversary...
LOL my point was that there are science captains for the other 2 factions who have turned non-science vessels into science vessels out of necessity. I have 4 non-Fed science captains, and have builds that are obviously science, but not necessarily using the free anniversary ship. It's also not faction specific, which many don't like.

Just my $0.02.
In that case, read my answer to @peterconnorfirst, also several posts by @samt1996. If you want to use so-called science hybrid builds, that is science oriented builds on non-sci ships, you are welcome to use/discuss them and no one is going to kick you out.
Also I apologize if my first answer to you seemed too edgy.
It was awesome yersterday night lol We had an isa run with csi guys and uranya from the channel! That was a bit... weird, with lag and crash, but seeing 5 partigens at work was an interesting p.o.v.! Lot of fun, looking forward to make another one with the new krenim vessel saturday
Might be best to lower the bar to lt com sci... its still science (you can use a grav well and majority of sci tricks) and is far more inclusive (I fly a sci tilted torpedo kor for instance)
Well I'd love to learn more about PVPing with science so I look forward to meeting you!
I tried taking a drain build into Kerrat one time.... never again. Lol
The thing that confuses me is that in order to truly make a dedicated lethal build for a science vessel how do you have any room left for not dying?
Balance is key. You have to give up some Sci skills for Eng and focus on a particular dmg type and play style. Coming from a Tac background (my primary was a Fed escort jockey), I favor a more aggressive style using TBR + SIC with high partgens, and FBP for defense against spiking escorts. This play style requires speed and good flying skills - you need to keep up with your target to put the pressure on them with the shorter-range skills (e.g. TBR) and also your torps (I slot only a single beam, and that's to complete my ISO Kinetic Cannon set).
Drain can also be deadly if paired with more traditional offensive weapons. A nice Tykens with high FC and Grav skills can leave may speedy players sitting dead in the water and defenseless against your teammates. It all depends on how you like to play.

Take a team of super drain Palisades (Flow caps 508) into a match and laugh as ships get drained so hard they can't even move. Specially effective if each Palisade has a different Tgt subsystem 3, Tykens with aftershocks, voth diplomat weapons drain doff, solanae 2nd deflector, Energy siphon 2, tachyon beam 2, 3 deflector doffs. Sprinkle in a bunch of ship/rep traits just to make things more fun.
By the way, to the KDF and ROM players. I hope you're grinding for the Krenim ship. It's the first 5 science console sci ship I've seen as a reward so it's definitevely worth it if you want to max out science.

Note: odinforever is also an excellent sci PvPer, so we should have some wisdom in-channel.
