Announcing The Science Channel

Hello!

We are happy to announce The Science Channel!

This channel is directed towards anybody who likes to fly science vessels, use science magic, ask any advice on that topic, share own ideas/knowledges and team up with likeminded players.

How to join?
1. Type „/channel_join The Science Channel“ into your chatbox (without the quotation marks, obviously)
2. Press Esc button, choose Chat Settings, Channels tab and write The Science Channel into the Join/Create box, then press Join.

Some guidelines (rules is such a harsh word):
  • This channel is intended for people who fly science vessels (to keep it simple, we define any T5/T6 ship that has Commander Science Bridge Officer slot as a science vessel. With lower tiers, there shouldn’t be any confusion. In case ship has universal commander BOFF slot, we’d recommend you to use a science officer there.) No character profession restrictions apply which means tactical and engineering officers are also welcome.
  • All kinds of builds are permitted. If one wants to use BFAW, for example, on sci vessel, we are fine with it. However, we encourage you to try other ways, since science has so many more toys to offer.
  • Don’t berate other people’s builds. Science has huge playground and even if something didn’t work out for you, it could work very nicely for someone else.
  • Channel does not have any DPS requirements, however use common sense when joining matches (for example, taking an aux2bat - jam sensors - mask energy signature Intrepid with mk I turrets into HSE would probably not be the best idea.) When in doubt, ask.
  • This channel is not the right place for trading or advertising fleets.
  • Please respect the wfp/wfg (wait for pets/wait for go) calls. That means: when you join a mission that doesn’t have a launch timer, engage the enemy only after everyone has said they are ready.
  • Of course common courtesy applies. Be kind, friendly, don’t a jerk and all that stuff.

And a video example how science can both be cool to fly and effective in battle (credits to @e30ernest ).

Joined. I probably won't be using it much since I prefer to PUG, but it's a nice initiative anyway :)

Glad to have chatted with you guys in game this week too. I'll try to spread word as much as I can and hopefully join in some runs with you all.
I'm really looking forward to helping people with their science builds though, I hope we can spread the word how cool science can be.

I seriously appreciate your initiative here, and will support it in full.

That being said, considering I am a fleet leader, any activity I take ingame is fleet-related. So don't expect me popping up a lot XD

I'm working on an extensive science guide which is proving more challenging then i expected, hopefully I'll have a final draft tomorrow but I wouldn't mind some experts to lend a critical eye!

My intention is that it be a one stop shop to communicate all relevant information in a concise but easily understood way. I'm organizing it by build type but I have little experience with disable and confuse builds so I'll need a co-author.

Do check the wiki for relevant consoles and such..I spent alot of time trying to get the info in those pages.

Sweet, I may even put links in to relevant equipment.

This is gonna be one helluva a chore...

Well, 15 hour work days tend to delay one's plans. Still working on it though.

I'll have to pop in once I play again. Nice to run with people using my Jupiter or Pathfinder.

You mentioned "FLY" what about for those who enjoy "GROUND" as well?

Our main focus will be on space content. Keeping is strictly science on ground would mean excluding all engineers and tacticals. And I believe I'm the only one from admin team that plays science character as main :)
However, we certainly don't want to exclude the ground part of the game. I personally love doing ground every now and then.
  • samt1996samt1996 Member Posts: 2,856 Arc User
Hopefully with a nice revamp ground will become more popular but it's never been the focus of this game.

I am working on grinding up some science toons but I've invested six years in my tactical main so it'll be tough to permanently switch.

That said we welcome all types of science Gameplay so there's no telling who you might meet in the channel!

Well since I am planning to build a Scryer torpedo ship this channel should be very informative.

Now if I can only drag myself away from collecting Omega traces during my free time...

You should eradicate, err educate them. Science mains can be fun too!

Captain career has very little to do with build type in space.

Of course APA is pretty useful with an exotic damage build... otherwise it doesn't really matter.

I totally agree that playing as science character is fun. However, knowing how much work and care can go into a character, a person can become really fond of that toon. So I can't tell anyone to change their main character just because they chose initially (probably when they even didn't really know what are the pros and cons of different professions) other professions than sci.

I should add you don't need to be an exclusive science player to join this, it's more of a community but If you run a team mission we prefer you use a science or hybrid science build. So an advanced escort with a science hybrid build would not be frowned upon... ;)

I myself run all three ship types almost equally although I've been focusing on science more lately.

I'll be really disappointed if we ever play a mission together through this channel and I don't see you flying an eagle :p

After spending a few hours in the Badlands battlezone and an 4-man ISA I just finished, I can say that there is plenty of enthusiasm for science builds :) Maybe I'm just paying more attention to it now, but I've seen a lot of torpedo-Vestas, DRB-firing Krenim ships and of course lots of gravity wells :D

Found myself (temporarily in my new Paradox - pun intended) and another Vesta captain in that ISA, one other guy in an Oddy and he was very impressed. Said he'd certainly wanted to give it a try but he had some difficulties earlier so I pointed him to the new channel.

Best of all: the fourth player, in a Scimitar, didn't seem to be willing to fight anymore after he saw us :) Or it was because he was the only one who blew up, also possible :p

Let's see ... In this channel, I can't fly my T'varo nor my Scimitar nor my Faeht nor my Malem, which are the most eagle-like ships I have got but I can use my Romulan Temporal Science vessel which retains a kind of eagle-shape ... Add that the char flying it is my Temer toon, a Romulan whose symbol is a kind of bird of prey ... and here we go ;-)
