My guess as to why Cryptic are on an exclusivity rampage, is because there are too many non-faction ships. Part of the CBS agreement where Cryptic could sell non-faction ships was that they have to be rare. However, if you fly to ESD, etc, you'll find that maybe at sometimes half or more of the ships there will be non-faction ships. Best guess is CBS warned them to bump up the exclusivity, or Cryptic is preemptively doing it so that CBS won't get mad.

You may find that they'll lower the chances of getting special ships in lockboxes soon too. Or even make it so the grand prize ship can only be rewarded during times that its specific lockbox is dropping.
Try Qo'nos or New Romulus if you think ESD is bad.... course then they'd have to admit they need to make ships for KDF and RRM which would cause a whole different kind of problem as entitled feddie bears whined, howled, and cried that someone besides them were getting ships for once

I hate to disappoint you but there were people on this forum who said that.

I am a new player, only been playing 4 or so months.
I have no problem whatsoever that I cannot get any of any type of reward that has been given out before I ever started playing.
Good for you. If I was a new player, I wouldn't start playing this game anymore as it is now. It's passed beyond the Event Horizon.

    what utter twaddle!

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I actually stopped playing regularly and buying zen/c-store items at all because of this change. I was looking forward to boosting their metrics in the summer event and running four characters through the event to get all of the summer ships. They announced this change just prior, so I decided they would get very little of my play time and none of my money anymore.

Now, I log in once a week to play the featured episode or every day (currently) for an event ship just to get the item and log out (mainly out of a need to have the event ship than a real desire to play). Where once I would buy a ship or something from the c-store about every other paycheck, now I give them nothing.

That is how it will remain until I feel they have done something acceptable (in my mind) to rectify this situation.

I feel sorry for players who missed out on event ships I really do, having said that how players who have obviously been playing for so long failed to get these ships is frankly beyond me.
unless you were actually in a coma for the duration of the events there is no reason why you could not at least slot the projects for all of the event ships last year even if for some reason you were unable to complete them.

For one thing, I didn't do any of the races over the last couple of years since I've been playing, up until this year. Yeah, I regret not trying before, but there you go. I'd like to see them brought back for those who join after this season, or those of us who didn't even try before, by choice at the time, but who would like a chance at them now.

Probably won't get it, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

Unclear on if the prior year slotted events will vanish at the event end or later in the year when the next winter event happens.

Unclear on if the prior year slotted events will vanish at the event end or later in the year when the next winter event happens.

It won't matter. Every Summer / Winter Event for the last year or so has had completely new Event Tokens. For example, notice this Winter Event's tokens say 2015 on it. Anniversary Event is coming VERY SOON since STO released in Feb/Mar 2010. That will require new Event Tokens so those of us who have tokens from last Anniversary Event (Samsar Cruiser) will have to turn in our old, pre-yearly tokens and start anew.

Even if you intend to use Lobi to buy Event Tokens when the event ends will not work. Those Lobi Store token packs will disappear very shortly after the Event is over.

Don't take a chance. Assume it will be unslotted as soon as the Event ends.

    irodu said,
I fail to understand the 'I'm entitled to everything attitude' that so many people seem to have.

So there are some sets I won't be able to complete. No big deal.

You must be new then; Welcome aboard :) . I have some degree of empathy for players who are new, see a particular ship for the first time in sector space, would like one for them self only to find it can not be attained due to the event lock. I think most are rational people who will overcome this crushing disappointment and get on with their lives.

More likely the wailing springs from players who while present might have got around to the highly demanding ordeal if they hadn't been saving reality or picking their noses while watching net flicks instead. I have few event ships because the aesthetics don't appeal to me but now I too am filled with sadness that I don't have them all. Had I known the tooth gnashing and OCD conniptions this would cause among some of the more sensitive types I would have, "catched them all" and made a parade of sails that would have floated from Earth to Qo'noS on all the tears.

PS irodu be careful using the "e" word on the forums. As much as I like to think my parade of ships might entertain nothing whips them into apoplexy quite like being accused of entitlement.

If you have the ship slotted you can finish it next year if you don't get it done this year. They don't erase the slots.

I just wish they would show some consistency and do the same with Lockbox/lobi ships.

Once their event end's, they too should disappear for good....

you should read the site news more often, they WILL be removing the project from your slots. Just like they did at the end of the summer event this year. You will NOT be allowed to finish next year. They spelled this out in small, simple, words on the news page.

Actually it does matter. 2016 won't come until December. So if we can still convert lobi for the 2015 version until the 2016 appear than that gives months of time to convert lobi to the 2015 version. And if not, then may as well not even log in to try to clean those up if you still have them. So it has a bearing on how to deal with them.

    Yes.

I wouldn't start playing any of those games if I weren't there from the start either.

STO used to be different. Better. Not anymore.

"Gotta catch them all" just doesn't work if them all aren't catchable.

Found on the Q&A about the retiring of the portraits. It appears that things won't be removed until they bring on the 2016 version.

What if I don't finish a Winter Reputation project?

All in-progress Winter Reputation projects will be removed before the subsequent year arrives.

It maybe not my place to put my opinion about it (mainly, because i got lucky, when i did the ice race last year for both raider and carrier - i already had the warship), but i think the only really bad idea was, that players were not warned during last events about retiring the ships.

I personally almost dropped the project for raider, when i got glitched out of account unlock - lucky me i decided to wait for fix, that they put it in almost at the end of the event....

Now as i said - i do not got problem with retiring older ships, but i got real problem with it being surprise for people that were secure in knowledge, that next year the bugs will be fixed, so no need to hurry - plans of mice and men (... and players too).

it has already been established in another thread that fair warning of 2014 being the last chance to gain past event ships was given by cryptic, if this was missed or ignored by players that is not cryptics problem.

honestly fellas, if this was my game I would just have those stupid ships in the c-store for 1000 zen simple as that
Id toss em in the lobi store so they were TECHNICALLY available but YOU had to flush out some cash to keep the game running and pay for developer paychecks to get it if you want it that bad.

C-Store or Lobi options may very well be the way to go...

For myself, I missed out on a few ships while I was away, such as the Nandi... that is on me. So no complaints here.
So, for those of us who did miss them and the event... a reasonable cash option would be welcome, if that is the price we have to pay for missing out on the event.

A three way win in my book... Participant get rewarded for playing/taking part in the events. Non participants can play catch up, while Cryptic gains a bit of revenue for ship/key sales.

    *Citation Please.

I tend to follow the forums pretty well, and I don't recall anywhere, in 2014, that the retirement of ships was going to be a thing. When the Risian "Love Boat" Cruiser and/or the Breen Carrier dropped, I don't recall seeing "you better slot this whether you want it or not, because that won't be an option come next event".

Now in 2015, shortly after the promotion of Salamiinferno to EP, in that short window between the Samsar / Anniversary Event and the release of information on the Nandi for Summer Event came the "exclusivity announcement". This gave zero "last chance" opportunities, it was "if you didn't already plan for it, you're SOL"...

This is, as I tend to remember it, the general gist of the situation. If there was a 2014 announcement, I (and many others, it seems from the plethora of posts) missed it hardcore. And remember, it's not "announced" if it shows up in a Podcast, the only true official source of official Star Trek Online news is and always should be the game's official news pages.
(and this is a whole nother ball of wax that the previous Community Management Team didn't seem to catch on too very well, either...)
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Ok, so there was some warning - but it says "....may change....", not "...will change..", so there was nothing definite about it...

And with all the bugs that jumped in with switching event ships to account unlocks, some people propably thought that they will get the ships next event, when all the bugs get fixed...., oh well - nothing to do about it now (only to keep writing do PWE, so they put the event ships to Lobi or Zen store - which would be good thing actually).

Well, any past event ship is TRIBBLE compared to the Rezreth if this brings any comfort to you. I've used the Chel Grett for 1 year back in the day and while it was ok in Gorn minefields, in ISE it was a lol.

So please don't mind past event ships. New event ships are adjusted with the power creep.

But they didn't carry out that threat until two years later. Some people might have thought they were just kidding when it didn't happen on the following Winter Event.
