@OP: I don't PvP. But I'd say relying on your cloak as your main 'attack' means you were either not really PvP-ing, or cloaks were totally OP! Either way, good to hear they took the cheese away from you! The Battle Cloak has always seemed too much for me anyway (especially when you could SS3 a person with it, and still remain cloaked; hilarity ensued).

Haha so true. I actually think the game has gotten better...granted PvP is probably borked but at least the devs now aren't trying to give us the run around, they've clearly stated its just not their top priority. Still PvP can still be fun and besides if cloaking was your only means to do good in PvP you're doing it wrong no offense....

Honestly, when people complain that the OP left an I quit thread, I have to laugh. Some quitters are just trolls. This OP seems to have well reasoned complaints, whether you agree with them or not. And as to why quitters post, because they care. If they did not feel bad about leaving and "had" a love for the game, they would not post. They are hoping things will get fixed or perhaps the powers that be will at least consider their complaints. Rarely happens but no reason to flame the guy. I've got my own complaints as I'm sure we all do but at least the OP wasn't a total jerk about it.
  • ltminnsltminns Member Posts: 12,572 Arc User
I think that with a reasoned post and lack of the code words in the Subject and original post that draw the Closure, it would be an informative and non-violating Thread.

'Here is what I see that makes STO difficult to play.' And then list the problems as you see it. Never mention quitting or anything like that. That will also prevent you from getting all the 'Can I haz your stuff', the 'Bye', the 'Who cares', and 'In before the Lock' nonsense.

You may also not be Closed, though lately the tendency has been to 'Minority Report' reasoning, you started a Thread just about that, or criticize Cryptic will you, type stuff so the outcome may still be unpredictable.

no trolling intended by me, just making the observation that if I ever decide I don't like the game and want to stop playing I will just do that without any I quit or even a its been fun but time for me to move on thread and I just cant see what others get out of making such a big deal over their exit.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Rant on - Where to start:

Nothing there is wrong except some of the stuff about Fleet Projects. Stay away from the larger fleets and Armadas and you'd have lots of places to put your Fleet Marks and other resources. I don't think our Armada ever has them all completed at once.

But in general. Yep, you be right.

It seems to me that if you are going to do a "I Quit" thread then you probably really don't give a damn one way or the other if the complaints you list got any attention or not. I mean you have one foot out the door anyway so what was the point of taking the time to make a big list of things you hate? And it's not like you give a TRIBBLE about anyone on the forum either because you probably don't know any of us. So my guess is you already said your goodbyes to your fleet or friends who had to hear you rage for days or weeks now and as a final "eff you" to the game developers and community here you start to post why the game sucks for you. I know, some folks posted here that your exit was not the worst way expressed. Well you can put a bow around a cow patty to make it look pretty but it still is going to smell like TRIBBLE.

Seriously, in all the I Quit threads over the years, has any one of the quitters actually mailed away all their stuff like Santa Claus handing out gifts? I bothered to post in this thread, I should get something in your forum Will.

We get it OP, we do. The key to enjoying STO is not giving a s#!t. Just play it for the stories, which thankfully the official ones seem to be coming faster, and THATS IT. Dont try to be the best, dont worry about your toons having the goods, dont admire the new soon to be nerfed shiny ships and consoles. Just STOP CARING. Its so refreshing. Yes, theres SO much seemingly obvious things the devs can do to win everyone back, but they dont care, or are too incompetent to listen to sound feedback. Hey, its THEIR jobs they are risking, not ours. But when you stop caring about the game, its enjoyable in occasional logins. Maybe you'll stumble upon the occasional good foundry mission. Let your cares go, and enjoy your favorite parts of the game for as long as the game exists. Which by the sound of dead queues, may be dead within 2 years. But who cares, we dont. If Cryptic wants to the forever known as the devs who killed a Star Trek MMO, let them do it. We've all wasted our breath trying to save them. Now is the time of the game, like a loved one you know is dying soon, and they dont even know it, just enjoy the days you have left with them while it lasts. And take comfort in the fact that in the end, when they shut the servers down, the players will have been right, but the devs preferred to walk themselves into hell and out of a job. Really all thats left to see is if the game even TRIES to win us all back with REAL changes, or will they likely stay stupid and greedy and defiant to the bitter end, and the call comes from PW to shut it down, pack up, go home, and downsize. Just stop caring about the game, stop caring about the devs, and enjoy the few months it has left.

And seriously, I expect to see some loot in my mailbox from you when I get my new video card in a few months to be able to play this game again, since my GTX 470 can no longer render freakin GRASS without lagging to a stand still.

OK, we get it, you're above piling it on, but knowing that the thread will be closed, why come here and post? On, wait. That's your line. Also, if you're going to judge how polished a post is, learn the difference between vein and vain. It doesn't make your post look very... polished.

Funny thing? I agree, haters should just buzz off, but you've bumped this thread at least 5 times just on this page with unproductive comments like "Here come the trolls!" instead of just letting it go.

Let it go. Let the thread die a natural death.

Want a new game? STAR Citizen! And I agree, I don't play this game like I use to, due to all the above resions from everyone above. Sooner or later the game will be dead. It just a matter of time, I have been here since the 1st beta, And yes its gone down hill! so I don't blame you! I have noticed that there are not as many players as there use to be. Its slowly dying the slow death like so many game's like it before! Criptic only cares about one thing (Money) simple as that. But don't worry be happy! There are bigger and better games out there on the horizon! Bigger and better games than this have gone down due to being to greedy, and not caring what the player base wanted and desiging everything around a grind that in order to complete in any resionalble amount of time you have to spend money. They still have not figured out you can put as many ships out there as you want, You can put out as many new epasodes as you want, BUT if your player base is board and feel like they are ignored.... WELL.... they and there money goes bye-bye. These guys will not figure it out until they get handed a pink slip a year or two from now, when no one is playing and spending money anymore.. Think Not? You just wait and see!
Its happend many times over with bigger and better games and companies than this one!

why do players have the need to make such a drama out of quitting the game, why do they feel the need to broadcast it to the world

Simple, they want attention. No other reason.

Look at the OP, he has 1 total post and it's this. The only thing he's ever 'contributed' is this 'LOOK AT ME' thread that no one even cares about.

I have never understood it either. Like you, I have played and left many MMO's over the years, and when I find that I'm done, I just no longer care. When the time comes for me to leave STO, I simply won't care enough to post about it, I'll just.. go.

Some people though, crave the attention. He's either hoping that he'll get people begging him to stay or that Cryptic will be so devastated by his departure that they will start making changes to keep him here. Both expectations will end in obvious disappointment.
    Insert witty signature line here.

Yeah. Except he isn't really going anywhere, LOL. No one ever is. I'm not leaving over Kemo (and I don't even bother to pretend I am), and the OP, as others have said, will surely be back by next week.

All-in-all, leaving because ppl found a counter to your total-immunity cloak, that seems a bit silly. In fact, that's what I love about PvP (even though I don't PvP): no matter what tactics ppl use, someone always comes up with a clever way to counter it. PvP-ers, if nothing else, are extremely creative that way.

    Huh... I left once.

Between the various grinds with multiple alts... I simply got burned out.

Now, I'm back... Focusing on only one character and appreciating the changes that have been made in my absence. Likewise, I'm not chasing that elusive bone called DPS.

Good times feel like they have returned.

This is one of the better I quit threads I've seen.

As someone who's played this game off and on, I can frankly tell you PvP was destroyed and PvE was built for people who suck at life and need a gimme win to feel good about themselves. This is by far the worst display of excessive OPing of the players in order to ensure the terrible gamers don't get butt hurt cause they can't figure it out.

The players damage levels have sky rocketed but nothing else has swung back around to compensate. Here's a hint designers: even though we're using the most deadly weapons on the battlefield to date, combatants are protected better now and have a higher survival rate due to advancements in medicine, armor, and procedures.

(But now, the devs have paired themselves into a corner, as those same people who they've catered to will go ballistic like none other if their "any ape can play this" difficulty level ever got tampered with).

Rant on - Where to start:

    1. After playing PVP today and discovering that my only advantage was now stripped away thanks to gravity wells and tyken's rifts forcing you out of cloak, that I am hanging up my Star Trek hat once and for all. That was my best build and the enhanced battle cloak it's primary advantage and you just took that away. It seems every time I get a good build worked up, the game designers adds something to TRIBBLE it up and counter it with some obscure duty officer or trait that is robs you of that ability. It was bad enough that some of the missions took away the advantage of cloak, but now you did it with PVP. So there is no longer any point in having the enhanced battle cloak at all. It's just not fun to go into a PVP and die within a few seconds now matter how what you do. PVP was so much more fun when no one ship or character type had such overwhelming advantages and dps was not so ridiculously high that you actually had to work as a team to win. The game designers refuse to do anything about it so I refuse to spend one more dime on this game.

    2. The game is no longer challenging thanks to the excessive dps players have even from my own characters. The only challenge left now is just getting the opportunity to actually target and hit something. Targets die so fast now that it you don't even have a chance to use some cool abilities because they take took long to deploy and too long to reach the targets.

    3. Missions - There is also way too many targets in some matches over more challenging targets to kill. At times you are overwhelmed with an excessive number of targets which is really more annoying that fun to destroy. The game was a lot more fun early on when there were fewer targets that were more difficult to kill. The Borg STF's especially were more fun when it really took team work to get thru the missions.

    4. The grind - there is just way too much stuff to grind out now - from duty officer projects, to admiralty, to dilithium, to reputation, there is just too much to deal with and it takes way too much time to do. You can literally spend all of your time doing projects over even playing a mission. Every new season seems to add more stuff to grind over content.

    5. Resources for Star Bases - this is really aggravating as it takes way too much dilithium, and not enough fleet marks. Those that control what projects are done in the fleets are about the only people who get to put in fleet marks because they fill them up as soon as they start them. And the projects don't usually call for very many of them so they fill up fast. Or those in the fleet that start the projects won't start the projects where you can enter fleet marks. It would be a lot better to have the projects start automatically and randomly so people do not abuse this situation.

    6. Ships - If the game designers were really true to the game, the big cruisers would be the ships to have because they would be the most powerful, and the most challenging to take down. Instead, you've got it where the small escorts have all the firepower. Or it's the box ships that are the only ones you can get any really big firepower out of. For a fed character, it seems like you can hardly find a true federation ship that is really any good. As a life-long fan of Star Trek, I would prefer to use a ship that is recognizable and an icon from the series, rather than one of the many alien vessels or ships that hardly even look like one of the more iconic ships such as the Constitution, Miranda, or Nebula class ships. While it is nice you have the Intrepid class, it's just not that great of a ship overall.

    7. Time and money - there is no telling how many hours and how much money I have spent on this game to end up feeling like I can never get my builds up to the level other players seem to be able to achieve, and I am tired of trying.

    8. Certain abilities and set-ups are grossly overpowered, while others are grossly underpowered such as Fire At Will where all you have to do is put a bunch of single beams on a ship and let that one ability do all the work. Do an Aux-to-bat build, and you can get FAW to go off every 10 secs or so. And yet you can hardly get any affect from abilities such as Target Subsystems, Tachyon Beam, or Countermeasures. When a target gets hit with Scramble Sensors or Jam Sensors, FAW should be wiped out from being able to hit ANY target until the debuff is cleared. This would allow some pets and targetable weapons a chance to work.

In all, the game is just no longer fun to play.

Whaa Whaa ... Bye good riddence to a whiner. Don't let the door hit your whiney TRIBBLE on the way out.
