Captain Proton, to the zen store!

Just had a thought. We need Captain Proton stuff. Sure, it's fictional in Star Trek. But that wouldn't stop enthusiast from making working replicas. We already have a jetpack mechanic in the Risan floaters. The gun might be a modded phaser. Or even a joke weapon. The costume would be fun (those goggles!) Add a couple of cheesy props for foundry and you're golden.

...Maybe a ship pet, too?

    Captain proton EV suit :P
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Any holoprogram from the show would make a good PVE.

What about a captain proton holonovel mission with these things as mission rewards?

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

Can I get Janeway's Queen Arachnia dress? It'd go great with my Orion. ^-^

We don't want what the Feds have. We want the equivalent. We want fairer treatment. Concern, desire, greed to some extent, and passionate belief that the enough people would buy KDF items to make it worth Cryptic's while.

I'd love to have the robot as a bridge officer or at least a pet.
"There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life." - Ten Bears (Will Sampson)

While I was never a huge fan of the Captain Proton episodes (or really anything using the holodeck) I have to admit, that's a pretty creative idea and might be a lot of fun.

Anyone here played Elite Force? I loved their Captain Proton levels. If done, they should have some way to monochrome the whole UI to match. Would require a lot of new map work and models though and if the recent missions have shown us anything Cryptic is more in the mind of re-using as many preexisting maps as possible.

In fantasy land, it would be cool to have a holodeck door on most social zones that link to mini-missions or special social zones. So you go to the holodeck controls and select a Proton mini mission, a Bashir/Bond mini-mission, Vic's social zone, a Moriarty mini-mission, Fairhaven social zone and so on. It would add some awesome diversity to the game and only needs to be like a one map level.

Monochrome means black and white ONLY no shades of grey. that would seriously grate on the eyes. I think you mean greyscale.

That's a very narrow definition. I think you'll find the term monochrome not only covers grayscale but is more commonly used to refer to grayscale than anything else. Indeed, the term can include an image in any color scale, so long as it is limited to that one colour though that is less common of course. Some confusion can be caused by the term's application across different artistic and scientific mediums. As the topic of this conversation stems from early films it is quite applicable as it is a common term used in that field. Feel free to research before randomly calling people out on things like that.

Didn't mean to be rude, I was just pointing out that a completely black and white interface might look weird and wasn't aware of the definition you were using.

Ah, I was wondering when this request would rear it's monochrome head again. But, I approve, more stuff is always good. :)

Maybe like a holodeck/Photonic lock box or some kind of event where you could get Captain Protons ship or Satan's Robot as a Boff.

You could also tie it into the Voyager episodes with the Hirogen, like where they take over Voyager or when the Hirogen need help hunting the Photonics they created episide titled "Flesh and Blood"

I remember hearing there is some wonkiness stopping Cryptic from giving us retro holodeck missions. If that is ever fixed then sure. A Captain Photon classic (just one big drop of missions at once) FE arc might be cool or at least a small April Fools mission.

I hadn't realized this had come up before. But I'm also not surprised in the slightest.

Anyways, when I imagined using Proton's ship as a pet, I was thinking that it could be held up by visible wires that sorta fade into the distance. Which could potentialy be hilarious if used with the jetpack. Just imagine looking up to see that. The sparks are clearly not actually propelling the person, but those wires aren't connected to anything either.

I would love to see this in the game along with some of the other Voyager and TNG holo-maps.

Maybe even make these missions only accessible through your ships holodecks. That'll give more use to ship interiors too. You can queue up as a team in one ship's holodeck or you can PUG on your own in your ship's holodeck and pretend other players are just holo characters.
  • autumnwind34autumnwind34 Member Posts: 29 Arc User
Couldn't they just copy what they did in TNG, Voyager, and DS9? Make a mission where you have to board a ship to help a crew trapped in their own holodeck, only the safeties are off and there is a malfunction preventing the hollo deck from being turned off. I'm actually pretty surprised we havent seen a mission like this yet, VOyager did it like 5 times and DS9 and TNG did it atleast a few times as well

How about we make a couple of missions where the Chaotica character gets his hands on a Mobile Emitter and then escapes the holodeck. As cheesy as he is in that 1950s scifi way, he would still be dangerous armed with a real Phaser set to kill. He and his minions can steal a ship or something and then pose a threat to a local system which Captain Paris then assists us in stopping. Maybe we can bring Qwen back and he could be responsible for this mess we have to clean up?

I'd enjoy playing that for a mission or two.

Someone suggested a Captain Proton based Featured Episode over on the old forums. Lots of people, including myself, piled on and stated how great such a thing would be. Most of us also suggested it be done in greyscale. To really capture the feel of the Captain Proton episodes. The idea generated a great deal of enthusiasm and support among the forum goers. Gratifying to see a thread such as this again.

Then, Forum Overlord Tacofangs appeared and explained why such a thing would be difficult for Cryptic to pull off. If the old forums were still up, I could provide a link. The explanation pretty much boiled down to too much work for too little return on investment.

Which means we have as much chance of getting one of these as we do of getting a T6 Connie. Or a true Science vessel for the KDF. Or a complete Romulan faction which is not a client state of the other two factions.

What a shame it is a company in the business of selling games cannot also sell fun and entertainment at the same time.

I think the STO team would love to do a "Captain Proton" homage episode.

But as mentioned, Tacofangs let us know that the "black and white TV" look would be very difficult to pull off and there's no good reason for them to develop the tech that could make it happen. It would be a very expensive "one-off" use of resources. It's also pretty specific to Tom Paris' obsession with 20th century pop culture.

Never say never, but doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon. That said, if people keep throwing money at them it's more likely that they'll eventually get around to projects that are more outside the box.

I'm not saying a full episode. Just put the swag in the zen store. Or get an enthusiast who'll give it out. Players most definitely will create Captain Proton serials in the foundry. No monochrome conversion necessary.

Though an episode would be nice.

I would love a full episode, even just a filler that has nothing to do with the overall story, our holodeck goes wrong, how many times has that happened seriously! Let it be a multiple choice at the beginning which decides the enemies and form we take, and reward at the end.

Path 1: A holodeck adventure with the Captain as Captain Proton, and a crewmate (boff) as your sidekick. Rewards a Bridge officer of the 50s style robot holo as an engineering boff...
Path 2: a 50s mobster mystery, with the captain playing the role of a noir detective, with a boff as his sidekick. Rewards a Johnny Hammer, a holographic mobster tactical officer.
Path 3: A Sherlock Holmes murder Mystery with the Captain as Holmes and a BOFF as Watson. Rewards Moriarty as a Science Bridge officer.

Play through it 3 times for 3 Holo Officers!!!
