Please make the DS9 docking officer shut up

If you are a klank or a klankrom, she whines at you to not start any trouble while you're on the station. Give me a break. A), the war's over, and B) even if it wasn't, uppity junior officers shouldn't be mouthing off to higher rank people of ANY faction.

never mind the DS9 docking officer, I wish they would do something about the ESD docking officer for us fed romulans, I am sick to death of him poping up every single time I am in the map its infuriating.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Now that is racist! It's bugging me since i've started playing STO years ago. I hope they make that disappear.

Anyway, who is a docking officer to speak to a Dahar Master like that for example? Disrespectful.
  • angrytargangrytarg Member Posts: 11,009 Arc User
It's consistent with the game, actually. Despite being a dahar master general or fleet admiral you get ordered around by 2nd lt. buttcheeks all the time, you get to mine dilithium MANUALLY and all that - there's a immersive discrepancy here pig-2.gif

But honestly, I too feel forced dialoge pop-ups should be removed on these occasions. Why not simply have the dialogue be tucked away in a "docking officer" low priority window and when you want to dock you get the dialogue with a "dock" "not now" option. Wether or not to remove the "watching you" bit I don't know. Since the game is unable to display temporal progression, DS9 still (and always is) at war or at least uneasy cooperation against the dominion/undines. So we just have to accept that - plus it's a nod at the show, when the Klingons went on shore leave in DS9 a similiar dialogue was held I think.

It would be nice to have the option to turn off a lot of cosmetic stuff and simplify clicks, like auto repair ship when respawning or proper auto looting, a decent auto loot may even creat sales of inventory slots.

I don't think that "auto repair" would be that useful and easy to implement. Some people apparently don't want to repair at all (I had a Mirror Invasion one of these days where one player had all kinds of passives unknown to me going while we were waiting out the timer, mousing over he had more ship injuries than I even knew existed), I wouldn't repair either if I was a minute off the end of an STF and would be beamed back to DS9 or another place where I could repair for free, and dealing with "lack of resources" could cause troubles as well (not crash troubles, but players' overreliance on automated systems probably would lead to even more guys flying around with undetected injuries).

About the DS9 lady, I tend to think "Do you remember that Gorn that jumped around on your precious station in a space suit all by himself to get you back into your seat? That Gorn was me, so please some respect" but at least she serves a purpose - the only reason I am approaching DS9 usually is beaming down and at least she is telling me I'm in range, a low priority interaction would have to be chosen, so I can live with that.

ESD guy to my Roms is more annoying. Yes, thank you, I know the deal, I have been an associate of Starfleet for 18 months now (in game time, not real life time) and landed here probably a hundred times. If you must annoy me, at least give me the possibility to be beamed directly into ESD.

The thing is that each zone is locked into a specific point in the game. ESD is currently locked post-Undine attack. Qo'noS is still pre-Iconian War. Romulus is in 2409 somewhere. Drozana around the Devidian attack.

DS9 is locked in the Borg conference period just before the 2800 happened. In which time the Federation didn't exactly like the KDF and its officers a lot. And in which time they could not give a flying tribble about whether you werea Klingon Bekk or Emperor Kahless himself. You were the enemy responsible for blowing up Utopia Planitia, and thus they don't like or trust you.

Injuries should just be removed they don't add anything interesting to the game, just waste of inventory space, boring extra clicking when respawning and of course clueless newbies who don't know they need to heal them or how.

As for DS9, only annoying thing about it is the docking prompt popping up when you're trying to leave.

I don't even answer that, just click on the "leave to space" icon on the minimap.

I only remember stirring up a bit of trouble the first time I played it. A mere squadron of birds of prey doesn't have the firepower to destroy Utopia Planitia.

Yeah, there was a lot of defenders even so. I definitely wasn't at Earth though.

Utopia Planitia is at Mars though. Earth has the San Fran shipyards, Mars has Utopia Planitia.

It's also key for guard duty. Almost everyone out-ranks you.... but it's your job to tell them to go away if they don't have clearance.

It actually has dozens of places where it shows up. But maybe some people gathered from TV or some video games that the higher rank can do as he pleases. Yes, an officer in charge of docking does decide what will be done in what order, no matter the rank of the ship's captain.

Also, even the highest military rank has superordinates - except for maybe in military dictatorships - who will decide the general outline.

As annoying as Ms. "Don't stir up trouble" is, how's about her "universal" introduction line of "there's been some renovations done to the station..."
