You can fix this by making the client go into windowed mode by clicking the button in the top right corner when you're at the 97% stall (you can put it back into fullscreen or whatever afterwords). Works everytime for me when I get this stall anyways.

I'm getting this a lot too, on both map transitions and crew switching, only mine usually hangs in the 40% range. It doesn't always happen on every map transition, but today it's been really bad.

    Ticket logged to Support.

This is the same HANG I just reported in new thread. It seems to have started last FRI I suspect but could have been Thursday. I first found it occurred when entering Drozanna System Space, then I had to relauch game client and did it again beaming to Drozanna Station. Then it didn't do it for awhile until it popped up again when changing maps. :'(

I also just had it occur when my one toon left Q's Wonderland.

    UPDATE:
I got the following response from Support:
When moving between zones or changing characters the game is trying to download new data related to that zone/character, but due to a sluggish connection it fails to load properly. Can you please make sure that you have On-Demand Patching turned off? This will mean that you need to download any patches completely at first launch, but should minimize the amount of data needed when switching zones or characters. Also go to the Advanced options menu and check Reduced File Streaming. While this option is described as for low RAM systems, many users have found this to help considerably with this exact issue.

Now in my case my Internet connection is quite good (240/12) so I left 'On-Demand Patching' on. I also have 8GB of RAM, but I did disable 'Reduced File Streaming' and by Jove, I haven't had a hang on map transition or character switching since! So I can happily report this is, for me at least, SOLVED. :)

So anyone still having these issues, try disabling one or both of the options above.

    Edit:
I've highlighted the two options for clarity.
    Also, for clarity:
    • The 'On-Demand Patching' option is in the Launcher, before you click Engage.
    • The 'Reduced File Streaming' options is found in game Options, on the Advanced tab.

I thought I always had reduced file streaming set to OFF and don't ever remember turning it to ON... I confirmed it was set to OFF but it seems they want this set to ON from the way I read your note? I also have a fast internet connection so downloading files should NOT be the cause and it seems to be primarily since Dec 1st patch last week.

But I also noticed today when I started the launcher it downloaded some files prior to the game starting of about 58mb in size which I usually don't see. :o

Thanks for that info. This bug just started really annoying me today (hangs at roughly every 3rd loading screen).

Previously I used to always receive Patched files when loading different screens and downloads would work with NO PROBLEM. I confirmed that reduced FILE STREAMING is set to OFF but perhaps the author's response from support meant to imply it should be ON?

UPDATE: 12/12/16 OK I now seem to have found what is the CORRECT FIX for resolving this issue. When the launcher window loads showing Server Status GREEN click options : then ensure On-Demand Patching is NOT selected. Previously I was confusing this with FILE STREAMING is set to OFF/ON.

I'll admit this was previously always enabled without FAIL prior to Dec 1st. But deselecting it then closing & launching the application this time it attempted to download 5430 mb on startup. The issue may simply be caused not being reduced file streaming is OFF but to the # of files or gigabytes that need to be updated. Despite having a fully patched STO installation & verified installation files a few times when I deselected On-Demand Patching to OFF suddenly I had over 5430 mb of files to download?

So hopefully this will correct the issue moving forward although I'm confused why On Demand Patching used to work well and now does NOT?

In my case I knew the On-Demand Patching was not the problem, as getting the small, periodic map updates was never the problem when it hung. I could visit Qo'nos, for example, nothing downloaded, then go somewhere else and come right back, and it would hang trying to switch to Qo'nos with again nothing being downloaded.

So it appears there are multiple types of this hang/stall bug. :/

Hope On Demand Patching is fixed in the near future so it can be enabled again. :) But how did all the patches I've downloaded every THURS seem to miss 5430 mb of files especially if I've verified files on startup several times recently?

UNRESOLVED :D It got my hopes up but still a no go.

Will post here if the following action identified above resolve's this issue in the near future. :)

UPDATE @19:22: Klingon Scout Force now load's with zero problem, yet DESPITE downloading 5430 mb of unpatched files previously despite all patches & verification done several times... I still had the hang upon exiting of Klingon Scout Force in 1 of the 2 times I left PVE Q so it seems something else is causing this issue since the 1st of Dec.

I'm sorry I didn't report here sooner, I checked both "On demand patching" and "Reduced file streaming". "Reduced file streaming" has always been set to on for me (probably since I played on some slow connections back in the day). However I had "On demand patching" enabled previously. After I disabled that, the launcher downloaded 5 GBs of data and since then, I don't have the problem anymore (I don't mind larger downloads for patches).

Excellent. So now we know that switching one or both of those options (one in the Launcher, and one in game) fixes this issue.

(In my case I only had to set Reduced File Streaming to fix my issues.)

OK that clarifies your earlier comment for me. I still confused why I had the one hang after disabling on-demand patching but I also left reduced file streaming to ON since I have 12 GB of ram. Although I admit it is happening a lot less since switching on-demand patching to OFF forcing the larger update, and I later re-enabled this but may need to remember to trigger it to fully download updates on patch days for smoother operation. It thankfully hasn't hung for me in 2 days now though...

People with slow Internet connections would benefit the most from turning off On Demand Patching. If that's not you, I'd leave it on if I were you.
