It can't be a mac issue because the game worked yesterday, just fine before this patch. Something in this patch broke something.
Possibly something related to the emulator, which would actually make it an OS X only issue. I did manage to get the Win client to update and launch on Windows 7 via Parallels 9... although hindsight being 20/20, I should've gone the BootCamp route - wouldn't have taken nearly as long for the game client to load.
Except mac people aren't the only ones having launcher problems. So its not likely to be so localized. Though to be honest, Cider is a TRIBBLE poor emulator. Also Bootcamp is an expensive alternative that not a lot of people can afford.
The supergirl got a good point on that. I'm going to play the star trek, batman and other games on the xbox 360 right now and wait and see what other TRIBBLE ups these geek programmers going to come up with now. You guys let me know once this screwed up trek online game gets fixed or gets screwed up yet again.

I believe the Mac client patches from a different patch server and distribution than the Windows client, though they're probably otherwise mostly identical. So something may simply be wrong with the Mac distribution, like a missing file or the wrong version of a file.
Given the timing of the error, it looks like something's going wrong starting up the emulator or the client inside it. The language error message I noted previously also suggests there may be some missing assets related to non-English languages. Right now, my bet is that it's simply a broken distribution, rather than something more fundamental.
I wanted to add to my previous post... the times I can get past the patching screen... when I load the game once the Cryptic logo loads a certain point, it crashes everytime...
Something tells me whatever the update was is causing this to happen...
Funny. Im on win7. when I hit engauge. it communicates with account server and promptly disappears. no game client launch what so ever.
Wow. so it's NOT just a macintosh problem. Well on the one hand that makes me say "whew". But on the other.. it makes me say "oh no!". Ah well. sitting firmly and waiting for an answer until they are sure what's going on and let the rest of us know!
I was so glad when they had Transgaming help them to port the game to Mac, so that I didn't have to use Bootcamp anymore and try and get a copy of Windows. Using it on the native computer without having to partition my drive has been WONDERFUL! Hopefully they are indeed looking into it, and figuring out what it is we need to do to enjoy this game. (and considering how often I buy zen.. they should find a better way than just wrapping it around a WHINE launcher to make the game work..)

I can run the game client and attempt to login, but it still times out on connecting to account server.
Interesting... I rebooted under Windows 7, waited for all the patching, and it did launch/load; seems like something's definitely out of place somewhere.
As for the other post re: OS X client using a different patching server, that might make sense if the game clients don't otherwise self-identify by platform so that the server knows what to provide.

that or they'll just decide supporting it on mac is more trouble than its worth and it'll become a windows only game LOL
I wouldn't be surprised either. But then they'd have to deal with all the refund demands.
Yeah. I've spent hundreds, including buying a lifetime sub. I expect that when a company releases a Mac client, they intend to support it, and my purchasing decisions are based on that expectation.

We're still looking into the issues affecting users with Mac users and login access... Kappa

I just watched the game launch with netstat, and the patch server's name appears to be macpatch.startrekonline.com (IP address 208.95.185.62) rather than what I've seen listed for the PC: patchserver.crypticstudios.com (208.95.185.41). The Mac launcher pretty much has to be using a separate update mechanism, since it has to patch the Transgaming stuff as well as the STO client and the Mac STO launcher.
I assume that's one reason we don't get pushed to use the Arc launcher (the other being that there are no other Mac-ported Arc games, so a multi-game launcher serves no useful purpose).
same problem for me. Mac User with late 2015 machine. trying desperately, but nothing changed the last hours. Now no more time until tomorrow late evening. Hopefully I'll still get the rewards :-/ and I will loose 24 hours of Assignments for all my chars :-((((((((((

I tried safe mode and force-verify options without success.
However, I can't log in and claim the free T5 ships. I'm concerned that after its fixed I won't be able to get an extension on the giveaways.

Really hope they make sure we can still claim the ships.
