The exploration system didn't make it.
Well ain't that a shocker.

Considering we had that poll not so long ago, and exploration won, you'd think we'd see it already. I know, I know, poll results don't mean guarantees, but still. New Dawn is pretty much exactly the same as the last batch of seasons (with the exception of the admiralty system, which sounds like an extension of the doff system).

Once again, a new season is being released with nothing new, instead just more of the same...

Guess I'll be waiting till Season 12 before I get more involved with the game again.

I find it comical that they even bothered to poll the community.

Hey how about a new doff system that forces people to buy ship's to get stuff done. You know exploration.

Polls are not really anything to go by - look at the HUGE time lapse between the poll asking what Delta Quadrant race we wanted to see in the spotlight and that race (Krenim) actually appearing.
I took that poll (back then) as asking which Delta species we'd like to be highly involved with. We got the Voth, Vaudwaar, then Kobali, and then the Krenim in the smallest details. Hardly what we desired.

Exploration almost definitely will happen - just not yet.
    I am not convinced.

I'm at a stalemate now, have three characters, a 4th one stuck on #52 (lost interest leveling him up) and even with my mains (who are all at #60) I just can't be arsed. I want to do more than sign in, fly to a system, shoot stuff, exit system, and send some doffs/ships off on assignments. Heck, I'm still running XII purple gear - cause the cost and interest of the higher stuff has no appeal to me. Grind Grind Grind. Meh! I was hoping for something fresh this time round, but nooo.

And, to be honest, I'm slightly insulted with what they've done to the Cardassian Arc. They've ditched what, 20-25 missions and replaced them with five? Whey to go and scrap a load of content - and they still haven't given us the availability to play as a Cardassian (regardless of whether it's in their own faction or not).

I tire. I'm held on lately, been in and out the game on and off, nothing major (cause there was no interest) but this new season, it's not grabbing me at all. Just can't be bothered to put the time in on a regular basis anymore. I've been there, done that, pretty much got the t-shirt.

Besides which, remember, they finally came out and admitted later on that the poll for "Which series would you like to see more elements of in STO" (which Voyager 'won') and "Which Voyager race do you want to see" were actually pointless because the decisions had already been made before the polls even opened...

Sounds like you're borderlining burnout. Might want to consider taking a break and doing other things, playing other games for a while. If it becomes a permanent seperation between you and STO, at least it'll happen while things are still somewhat okay instead of everything turning sour...

"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

    I think I've passed that.

I've been burnt out for a while now, I had a stint a few months back where I'd just sign in, do some doffing, sign out (keeping my characters in check and building up their commendations etc), then my internet went weird (my end, nothing to do with Cryptic) and I was probably out of action for a week or three. Got that sorted early this week, came back and just thought can't be arsed, then I saw what lame stuff we appear to be getting with this new season, and I just ask myself why bother.

The problem is, even if I took three, six, even nine months out, I know what I'd be coming back too. Sure, there might be different aliens to fight, and the odd new (but quickly boring) feature, but the fundamental element of the game (warp in, pew pew, warp out) will remain the same. Even some of the story content is starting to suck, and after the whole build up of the Iconian threat which ended like that, what a tragic story. It was clever, I'll grant Cryptic that, but what a waste.

But yeah, burnt out. Until we get another expansion (that isn't as lame as Delta Rising) I don't think I have any long-term interest in the game anymore. They keep firing out ships that are ever-so-different from the previous one, or they'll release an episode that doesn't really advance the story, if it does it has to be cross-faction (so much for having three factions). I think, at this point, they're just trying to keep the game alive. I suspect they know it's heading downwards (anyone who says different I fear isn't getting the big picture) and they're doing what they can to keep it afloat whilst they can.

That's not to say the game is about to die, it's not. They've got loads of cash out of us (lock boxes have seen to that), I just think that the game is has long reached a point at which it was exciting; last time we had that adventure feel was with New Romulus, but even with that, they couldn't keep the momentum, and the Republic fell into the lame trap of just being a slightly different faction to play with. There's so much missing from the Republic it's unbelievable.

Then there's all the queues - there are too many of them now, same with the reputation systems. God, what a chore that is for a new player (or a new character - even with sponsorship tokens). The game just seems a mess, too much going on, too many weapon variations, too many playable alien ships, not enough concern on faction specifics. It's one big ball of crazy.

Anyway, I'm raving on now for no purpose, best I wrap it up.

    Star Trek Online: New Dawn
    Launch Day Guide

    Hello Everyone,

I assume everyone here was around for the launch of Delta Rising and knows what a season launch day is like, but if not here is the basic rundown. It’s like any other patch day, except it takes longer and the server isn't guaranteed to turn back on immediately... :D
So, here are a few tips to help speed up the process and make your day go faster and be more enjoyable.

    • Patch Tribble Ahead of Time
      • When Holodeck patches the game, the STO launcher is hardcoded to borrow files from your Tribble install whenever it can to cut down on bandwidth.
      • Pre-Patching has been enabled for the last week or so to help with patching times as well. So when you quit out of STO, it should start patching files ahead of time.
      • Patched Size is not the same as Downloaded Size. https://twitter.com/Tumerboy/status/519511663154716672/photo/1
    • Play the New Dawn Featured Episode!
      • We will be getting at least one new episode. It Features the voice talents of Kipleigh Brown who appeared in an episode of Enterprise.
      • This Mission begins at Deep Space Nine! You will need to manually fly there as the Transwarp function will take you to the system where most of the story takes place, which is your second Stop after DS9
      • You Can read more about it in this Dev Blog!
      • Although the Devs have put an immense amount of work into these Episodes, due to the fact that this is a game and there are a million possible play scenarios and they cannot possibly predict them all, it is likely that something may go wrong.
      • If something does break please don't come on the Forums and start up Rage and Flame Threads. Please do go post a response to the bug thread in a professional and concise manner. There will probably already be a thread going. Do not start your own.. Find one that is already up and reply to that one.
        • Please post in the Gameplay Bug Report Section HERE
    • Play the revamped Cardassian Episodes, and Enjoy Them as well!
      • With the release of New Dawn we are seeing the revamped Cardassian Struggle Arc. There are four new Episodes replacing what we had before. They include new maps and a great new story They are as follows:
      • The Final few Episodes, otherwise known as the The 2800 Series are unaffected.
        • Please post in the Gameplay Bug Report Section HERE
    • Enjoy the updated Level Curve in the Later Missions!
      • To better allow players access to the later episodes of the Delta Rising and Iconian War Storylines the minimum requirements of the Missions in these arcs have been lowered to allow an easier progression through these missions and onward to New Dawn.
      • With this update the Minimum requirements for the Kobali Battlezone will be reduced as well!
      • You can read more information about this in this Dev Blog
    • Be nice to the other players in the queues
      • Tomorrow we get Two new Queues. 99% of the People here have not played them, and 99.99999% have not gotten the optionals.
      • Please behave and be nice to anyone that you are auto teamed with. Odds are they are just trying missions out for the first time and will need help in order to complete the optionals.
      • If you are that worried about completing the optional, create a Private Match, and run with your friends. Please help keep our community a positive and welcoming environment...
      • The Official Feedback Thread for Counterpoint
      • The Official Feedback Thread for Assault on Terok Nor
    • Don’t get lost in the Badlands!
      • With Season 11 comes the new Badlands Battlezone where you fight the attacking terran forces within the confines of the Badlands in the Alpha Quadrant.
      • This is a new zone for Players who are level 60. This can be Accessed via Sector Space
      • Read more about it here: Dev Blog
      • Please be Kind to those in the new zone as everyone will be learning and we all learn at different paces.
        • Please post in the Gameplay Bug Report Section HERE
      • Ensure to provide what you did and what you could not do with what you expected to do.
        • Please look for any other threads pertaining to this issue. Especially an "Official Feedback" Type Thread if there is one. Always comment to an existing thread first before creating a new one so that Devs and other players can find any information passed down about fixes in one place.
    • Enjoy the new Terran Task Force Reputation
      • With the launch of New Dawn, the forces of the Terran Empire has decided that it is time to attack the prime universe and claim it for themselves.
      • This takes place in the revamped Cardassian Arc, and the new PvE Queues and Battlezone
      • These new zones reward Terran Marks and Terran Gravimetric Inducers These items can be used within the Reputation System to level up and Purchase Kit Modules and other awesome Gear!
      • You can read more about the Terran Task Force Reputation in this Dev Blog
    • With great power comes great piles of Paperwork!
      • With the launch of New Dawn, Admirals who are at least level 52 will now have access to a new system within Star Trek Online. The Admiralty System!
      • The Admiralty system is a new system to help provide Admirals with a supplemental source of XP and other rewards to aid in progression through Star Trek Online.
      • With this new system you will be able to send your unused Starships out on patrol to help with incidents for both the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire
      • To Get Started with the System, open the Doff Window and Choose Admiralty.
        • This will open the Admiralty System and provide you with an initial complement of Starships. (Those currently in your Ship Roster)
        • Make sure to Cycle through and claim all the ships you have available to you from the C-Store and Past Rewards, make sure to open the Admiralty system to be rewarded the Card for that specific Ship. You MUST open the Admiralty System to be rewarded the Ship Card.
        • You can read more about the Admiralty System in this Dev Blog
    • Don't be surprised if the server goes down.
      • Legacy of Romulus caused the server to go down and up and down for a total of around 14 hours before they finally got the issues resolved.
      • There were also slight server hiccups on Launch Day of Delta Rising.
      • With the return of the Exploration Theme and new story content we all hope to see an influx of new and old players and that can be taxing for the game hardware.

    • You may have to wait in line to Login
      • If the server reaches capacity the server will automatically activate a Queue system
      • This system will be first come first serve, with Paid Subscribers being moved higher in the List.
      • This system has been activated during past Season Launches.
    • Foundry Missions and the Foundry Editor will probably be down for a while.
      • This is normal, don't freak out.
      • The Foundry missions will be available as soon as an automatic republishing is complete
      • The Editor will be updated with the new code branch and is usually available once the republishing completes and the system is checked for game breaking issues.
      • When the Foundry is reactivated, the Review and Rating system will be disabled so authors can fix missions - you can still send an in-game email to the author to report bugs, this will help them get this fixed (remember to be civil, bugs could be related to the update and might not have been there before!).
      • If you find an issue with an mission and reviews are not enabled, please be patient and PM the Author in game. Or Add the in-game Channel "FoundryTalk" and Ask there. Someone will know.
      • If you find a Featured Episode that is broken alert the Author
      • If you are an author of Featured Episode and your Mission Start point was moved and you need to make changes, you will need to contact pwlaughingtrendy, via PM on the forums - Your mission will need to be Un-Featured so you can fix it and later once fixed it can be Featured again by talking to pwlaughingtrendy.

        • Problems with the hardware can drastically vary from computer to computer. As personal computer setups are extremely variable, please be aware that they are often dealt with by the Devs and communication back from the engineers regarding hardware setup issues is rare - they have to find the issue before fixing it and there is not always and ETA to restoration

    Great overview
I personally spent the majority of my gametime this evening claiming admiralty ships and tinkering with that system on all of my characters (it took way longer than i thought it would lol!). I got some great rewards on my main in the short time I played with it. So far I love the Admiralty system.
Ill get to the rest tomorrow but I am really looking forward to it.

indeed a good guide howerver if you expect players to do all of this in a day you have way too much time on your hands, better to have titled it > Star Trek Online: New Dawn! - Launch Guide for your first week.
it took me the first day just to get used to the admiralty system and making sure all my characters had all the ship cards available to them.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Okay how about after the latest Patch from today and the launcher won't even let you launch the game? :'( Something to do with Unable to start game client: Success.

    :# What's up with that?! :#

thx OP for having taken the time to make this post for the community.

    I tried everything:

    - admiralty -> boring, this is just a new doff system
    - the new stf -> not very interesting, in 1 word: kill them all
    - the new battlezone -> well, like i don't like the undine battlezone, i can't like this one: this is only pew pew and this is abashed
    - the new terran rep -> i don't care, not interested
    - the new fe was very interesting until the arrival of Tholians
    - the revamped cardassian missions -> not bad, but too many fights: kill the small ships, kill the average ships, kill the big ships lol. And the mission at mirror Bajor is too short, I would have liked to visit more places(new places) and do more things (I talked to all the npc's etc), but the new cardis are really cool.

I can't wait the Winter event and the Season 12; for me this current season is more "New Down" than "New Dawn"

The Admiralty System reminds me of the old Starship Creator game. I got bored with that fairly quickly because you couldn't stay with the ship, just get a report. But it sounds like a nice idea as an adjunct to STO, I've been wishing for something to do with all my old ships so I'm looking forward to trying it out.
