Very similar design concepts. Tough choice. But I'm looking for something distinctive enough to be recognized the moment it drops out of warp. The Alpha hull just looks too similar to already existing hulls for that - although I do like the cap on the back. The Omega has that illuminated crescent on the underside that makes it more interesting from that viewpoint and the "sawed-off" edges do give it a sleeker "masserati" feel. I just hope the customizing options allow us to pick and choose features from the Alpha and the Omega line-up. That would be perfect.
Vote Omega!
Its designed for fighting!
If you look at the artwork, it looks like the fighter launch openings are on the sides of the main saucer, with hardpoints for weaponry to the aft (dorsal and ventral surfaces).
Oh yah! Omega FTW! Its like the Jupiter and the Prometheus class had a kid!
Funny that you mention that; there was this one hilarious post I saw over the Jupiter in some board that has a Star Trek Online discussion going.
I don't remember the exact quote but it went something like this:
Cryptic should give us a Jupiter-class dreadnought carrier that has 3 hangar bays, each loaded with Defiants. The Jupiter should multi-vector separate into the top half and lower half, which then further separate into 2 more halves, while launching the frigates out all at once, then have said frigates also deploy personal defense shuttles. So you can be a one-man army no matter the mission.
The more I think about it and look at the designs, the more I think it was set up with the idea of at least limited kitbashing being allowed. That would explain why there are three or so fairly noticeable "families" of designs.
Now, I don't think being able to mix and match ALL of those designs would be allowed. A dev would have to correct me if I'm wrong, but in order for a kitbash to work there has to be some kind of unifying design aesthetic or else the proportions, angles, and aesthetics would be so jarringly off that the results would look hideous, or the parts literally would not fit together. Stuff like a Beta-Omega mashup I do not see happening whereas if Beta had won, I think we could have had parts from Delta available to kitbash. Gamma, Sigma, and Theta to me are another obvious compatible set--and if it were me, the one I would've liked best.
Whichever wins this vote, by eyeballing it, I think Alpha and Omega are in the same design family and therefore either way we'll be able to kitbash with parts from both. I would also say Epsilon is the likely third member of the family and there may be some parts available from it as well. The fact that two designs in the same family won makes the idea of allowing kitbashing even more likely in my estimation--a pretty good indication to the devs that the investment will pay.
I know some people have been unhappy about what they saw as a foregone conclusion, but I do think the contest may well have been aimed not at not just selecting one default design but elements of an entire family. That way, when this finally rolls out, you have less of a portion of the database upset that they lost.
It's not like I have anything official to back that up--that's just what I personally infer from the designs themselves.

Let's use the Vulcan logic:
Omega has several meanings, here are some of them, but all are like "the end", "the last", "end", "end", ...
Relating this to the design of the new ship, then that is what will be the final project and is equal to omega. So the logic is just the beginning of new knowledge and new challenges. This is the ultimate challenge, so again this is omega.
Then follow this logic.
That's true: It is the last letter of the Greek alphabet, omega mean the end, is things done, excellence, perfection.
I'm happy to REPORT that I my vote was on the loosing side 6 and now likely 7 times. Despite wanting Delta to win over Alpha in the first vote, many saw the writing on the wall, that Alpha & Omega would be in the final. Still having seen the 3 ships I really liked beat out early, I'm confused why Alpha isn't doing better as it's a nicer sauser.
SO many people seem to be under the delusion that Omega looks like the Jupiter class...other than being a whale with 4 nacelles I don't see much else in common.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
Both ships look similar enough that it feels like John Jackson vs. Jack Johnson in Futurama. But sure, what the hell. I'll vote for Alpha because I feel like pulling for the underdog.
I think that regardless of which one wins we should get the other as an alternate design. This being said, I love the Alpha for her general design and think the Jupiter fanboys (and fangirls, there are those of you out there) should get rid of their obesstion.
The Jupiter, and the Typhoon for that matter, aren't even good looking, and were really just used to represent their replacements, the Oddy and the Command Battlecruisers. Leave the Jupiter alone folks, it's never ending up as playable and should be completely removed. Same goes for the Typhoon. Your writing this down I hope Cryptic, right? Right??
if Beta had won, I think we could have had parts from Delta available to kitbash. Gamma, Sigma, and Theta to me are another obvious compatible set--and if it were me, the one I would've liked best.

Beta and delta aren't even remotely related, what on earth makes you think that delta's giant circular saucer-monohull could possibly fit with any part of beta?
Gamma, sigma, and theta are all three from very different "design families." Beta and theta were close enough that they could easily kitbash, sigma and epsilon were close enough that they could easily kitbash. Alpha and omega have a "similar general shape" with similar nacelle/pylon configurations, but it doesn't matter how closely related the ships are if the devs don't model both of them. No matter how similar omega and alpha might appear in general configuration, they would still be constructing two completely unique models.
"Very similar" in modeling would be like a galaxy class and nebula class, if you have the same saucer and same hull, then a few tweaks here and there could give you two ships with minimal extra effort by just re-arranging the pieces and modeling the few extra bits required.
Omega and alpha are not like "Stick the saucer directly on the hull and flip the nacelles upside-down, and TADA!" The one thing they have going for them is that you could probably take the nacelles/pylons from one and stick them on the other. Question is, are the devs willing to put in the time to model two ships for the price of one? The answer is probably not. I'm sure we all want a voquv type choice of at least two models to fly, but unless the devs decide to go back to their old way of making a unique model for the pay version and a model for the fleet version, or make one model a free version that can be picked up at level 40 and the other a premium paid version one picks up at t6, then I highly doubt it.
But lets keep our fingers crossed that we do get at least some customization options, even if they are simply a variety of nacelles/pylons, maybe the option to only use the top nacelles and pylons or just the bottom ones for people who want a ship with just two nacelles, perhaps a few selections of optional mission pods.
The Nebula-configured Odyssey needs to be a thing.
PWLaughingTrendy, have they told you what the build will be like or what we will be doing? Plus, with the Heavy Escort Carrier I had six starships to mix/match to make into one Starship design of my choosing, please pass on to them to come up with somekind of starship creator type contest or create an improved shipyard instead. For example choose a starship class [Battle Cruiser, Cruiser, Escort, Carrier], [using real starship parts here on] next a saucer section design [circle, oval, or triangle shapes], next add secondary hull [none, short, long], next choose nacelle design [flat, round, oval, square, triangle] and number [1,2,3,4], next pylon type and orientation [up, down, parallel], next starship type[science, engineer, tactical] and choose starting weapons or none, and etc... If in same starship general class/design it should be possible, like some already in game!!! We all will be more pleased and Cryptic/Paramount/CBS could make more money in part sells. P.S. where is the Federation Universal Battle Cloaks and a total/all Universal Bridge Officer Option?
PLEASE make these two designs available as skins for the same ship, Cryptic! They are seriously so similar it can work and I can guarantee that you'll sell more if you make both skins available! It's honestly the only way this voting thing can end well for both sides. I love Alpha AND Omega, but making me choose between them is cruel!
Team Alpha, since I couldn't vote for Vandread's amazing kitbash, which was the best ship in the competition by far.
That said, I appreciate that Alpha has a recognizable saucer/engineering hull division even if it is minimal - it looks more like something that Starfleet might've designed than the disc with engines poking out that is Omega. Alas, it appears that this will be one more losing vote from me. On the other hand, I'll probably wind up buying it no matter what it looks like since it's likely to be a Fed carrier with frigate hangers... it's just too bad that it couldn't look nice as well.

Honestly, what sealed the deal on #TeamAlpha for me was one simple asthetic point: Ship Alpha looks bigger. In truth, its design reminds me of the Sovereign class, and that design happens to be one of my favorite looks for Star Trek ever. Gamma looks too smooth and... Well to be frank, it looks small. The HUGE doors on the side just make it look small. The way that the lights on #TeamAlpha lay out over the hull lends to a larger looking ship. Plus there's more detail to it, we have a mission pod that hopefully will have different variants to use, the nacelles looks cooler, and just...
Overall, #TeamAlpha just looks better. Omega looks like it belongs in a different Gene Roddenberry show from the early 2000s. xD

Voted on the winner each time. \o/
