Before Season 11:
-Don't discharge ANY ship that you can't immediately reclaim for free between now and Season 11
-Save all boxed ships that you can't immediately reclaim for free between now and Season 11
-If you do not have a Kamarang or Support Cruiser either commissioned or boxed, do the mission "Temporal Ambassador" and save the ship box
-Stock up on lockbox/lobi ships
-Make sure you have at least 1 ship slot on each character
-Recognize that each ship type(besides T5-Upgraded status) has a different representative Admiralty card within the Admiralty system(ex. having both "Exploration Cruiser" and "Exploration Cruiser Retrofit" will give you two separate Admiralty cards)
During Season 11:
-Claim/discharge all C-store ships for their Admiralty cards(Romulans! Don't forget your allied factions' tiers 1-4 ships!)*
-Claim/discharge all event ships for their Admiralty cards*
-(1,000-day Veterans) Claim/discharge BOTH Vet Destroyers for their Admiralty cards*
-(Federation or Fed-allied RRF Steam pack owners) Claim BOTH Steamrunner variants for their Admiralty cards(or just the T1 if you're Romulan)*
-Open all ship boxes that you have stored away that you don't plan on selling
-Repeat all of the above for each character
-All of the above apply even if you have a different version of the ship already commissioned
* Open the Admiralty UI BEFORE discharging to verify the card generated.
One question: if a lockbox or event ship is your currently ACTIVE ship that you are piloting, will you also get a card for it, or will you have to switch ships at least once after Season 11 goes online?
Edit: Okay, now two questions. If you chunked the Ambassador box, will redoing the mission give you another one or are you out of luck?

All your active ships get a card straight out, apparently. If the mission still grants the ship, you'll be fine. Not done it in ages, so can't verify.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Is this a ploy to get us to buy more ship slots? Or do we simply commission the unused ship in an open slot, get the card, then decommission, rinse/repeat?
Orange, good advice. Might I suggest highlighting criticial words for emphasis?
Also, it occurred to me with people talking about the Ambassador / Kamarag. It would be great if we got Admirality Cards for stories that involve us playing missions where we fly other ships. Like Feds getting T1 B'rel Cards or for new players, getting cards for the Samsar.

I was hoping we would use our actual spare ships for stuff. I was planning on getting them all their own sets and equipment because I thought it might give me an edge.
Instead we get the card and scrap them. This just means people will be accumulating even more unused ships than ever before and throwing them away.
Man think about how wasteful the Federation is:
We destroy ships by the tens of thousands looking for that one rare purple loot drop
We send millions of officers to their deaths in starbase grinders to make bricks to build our starbases
Now we will be buying up ships by the hundreds of thousands and throwing them away once we get the commemorative trading card that comes with it.
So much waste. Modern day Earth is better at resource management than the Federation.

It wasn't an actual ship tho, just a holo-emitter disguise, IIRC.

And if we had to get sets (and weapons and consoles and upgrade it all) people would complain that Cryptic is just doing a huge money grab.

I think it would have been fun. I have a bunch of sets and gear in my bank that just collect dust anyway.

How valuable are lower tier ships in the admiralty system?
Actually, they can be pretty valuable for assignments that don't require a lot of points, because the lesser the tier (OK, rarity and it's not the same as tier, but...) the faster they can come out of maintenance, so you can spare a higher-ranked ship from a long maintenance, even if you think you can get a better score with it.
It's all about whether you want a higher crit chance on one mission or a higher but smaller crit chance on several.
The lower tier ships seem particularly interesting if you expect to micro-manage more (which probably will net you more rewards overall) - they have lower maintenance times, that means you can use them more oftne. If you only got Tier 5 and Tier 6 ships available to you, you'll probably not be able to do that, because after they completed their mission they will require almost a day of maintenance.

You're taking the game mechanics a bit too literal here. If you had the ship commissioned at least once, that means you can now send them off on Admiralty mission. If you retain them in your inventory, it just means that you have reserved the right to take command of the ship for yourself when you feel like it.

But that doesn't sound anywhere near as funny as scrapping the ships so you can play cards with the other admirals.
Just like boff candidates handing you instruction manuals and going home doesn't sound anywhere near as funny as space magically transforming them into manuals.

The devs said its purpose was to give older inactive ships more of a purpose. Though I suppose there could be multiple reasons. I wouldn't call it a "ploy" though, as it's acknowledged that they do need to keep the game funded.

That and we're not sending anyone to their death when we contribute our DOFFs to our fleets. We're merely assigning them to our starbases and holdings. Basically transferring personnel.
Is there a number limit to the amount of Admiralty ships you can have? Not sure if I read that anywhere.

Far as I know there was no disclosed limit. Else they surely would've monitized it like DOFF limits and BOFF slots.
That was answered by basically saying that there's no practical limit... in that the limit has been set to be higher than the maximum number of ships available per faction. The off the cuff number was 9,999 or something, but for all intents and purposes we can't actually reach that number. There was no direct monetization intended when Bort was answering questions, but indirect monetization by adding value to ships is present and intentional.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
I'm going to prepare by not preparing. I used to collect ship's so I have quite a few so I'm not really worried. I'm really torn with this new system. I'm kind of excited to do "admiral" stuff, but at the same time it's just ship doffing and even with good rewards that sounds...boring. I'll reserve judgement of course, but my expectations are set pretty low.
